I made a purchase on Father's Day and chose the option to gift by text. I successfully checked out, went through card verification, and paid for the item. I was greeted with an order confirmation page. It was not until a few hours later that I learnt that no text had been sent, and I realised I had received no confirmation email. I sent two messages to customer service that day (because the first gave me no indication it had been received). I received no response whatsoever for over 3 weeks. I then tried to contact them again to see what happened and immediately received a confirmation email that my request had been received. I then had a back and forth with customer service which totally contradicts the experience had on their website. They claim that the payment failed (absolutely not) and that they responded to my original query (no way). The only conclusion I can come to is that their computer systems are atrocious, riddled with bugs, and cannot be trusted. If my payment failed at a later stage (i.e., after you've told me I've checked out successfully), then contact me that you've cancelled my order, or to ask for a new payment method. And given that my third query actually triggered a confirmation email it's clear that their contact forms were also completely broken on the first two attempts. I like hotel chocolat but I don't see how I'll ever trust their website again, and their inability to take any responsibility or be honest with me means I'll probably never shop in store again either.
