    Terrible Customer Service and Cancelled Without Warning

    Terrible customer service on the phone. I’ve placed multiple bookings weeks in advance, had the booking confirmed a few days later to say the vehicle is available, then recieved a cancellation confirmation out of the blue a couple of days before the booking! Leaving me completely in the dark and without the van I had planned for. Awful company that have caused me nothing but stress.

    Terrible.

    Terrible. You get handed keys at the desk and are sent off to find the car without a member of staff. After a flight, kids in tow etc etc, we took a video of the car upon collection just to show the current condition. Upon returning the car we also took a video and then dropped the keys in the box (again no staff to take the car back or inspect it). A week later im then charged for fuel, baring in mind the car had more miles of fuel than when i collected it. Then weeks later im sent an invoice for damages which you can clearly see were there on the video when we collected the car. This video proof is not good enough, they want JPEG photos and are still proceeding to charge my card £280- even though I have proven we did not cause the damage. This is morally wrong, it is ridiculous to expect someone to find the car, inspect every inch of it, then go an que back up at the desk to try and get an employee to help with kids hanging off you! Will never use Europcar again *****Update***** have emailed the customer service as advised in the response to my review. No luck......

    Reliability, zero

    So after booking the car a few weeks prior, I download the app and fill everything in as Europcar says doing this before makes car pick up smoother. On the day, I'm standing at check out, bank card in hand to pay, waiting on the keys so I can take my son away for a weekend together, our first trip just the two of us. Then I het told I dont pass the soft credit check and so they cant give me a car. I'm not looking for credit, I'm willing to pay the full rental fee up front. Tough, no car. Excellent. So now I'm left thinking, I cant let my son down. Quick trip to Arnold Clark, drove out 15 minutes later in a hire car. When you get everyone hiring a car from yourselves to download your app and give all the information needed to make the car handover smoother, do you no feel that including your stupid credit check should be done then and there before sending all hire documents out as if done and dusted if you're gonna turn people away on the day? Complete waste of my time, and a horrible start to the day which almost ruined time away with my son. Will never attempt to use you again and will recommend everyone to stay away and go elsewhere before getting let down on day of hire. Shocking

    I understood why it is having very low rating

    In brief, it is not a honest car hire company. Update on 26Sept: after the communication, they admit nothing for sure, as we had signed the agreement. So, just prepare yourselves to pay extra if you want to have the hire. Long story. booked via rentalcars.com, another low rating company, an automatic was booked. When I was at the counter, the staff told it was not under my name, and the car was not automatic, unless pay extra for it to amend it to be under my name and automatic. rentalcars.com confirmed the booking was under my name and it was booked as automatic. Also, it was funny that the counter staff told me not to trust rentalcars.com, and rentalcars.com CS told me not to trust any staff from rental companies. The counter staff handed me a form of accepting extra insurance and additional drive (who helped me to pay and drove me there) or else no car would be given. At that moment, I had no choice as I needed a car for my journey.

    This is the second time we have used…

    This is the second time we have used Europcar, hiring from Cork Airport (ROI) and on recommendation from friends and family. We had no issues in 2023 and the process was hassle free which is why we chose to use their services again this year (2024). . Unfortunately the car developed a problem so we contacted Europcar for assistance and on their advise returned the car back to Cork Airport. We expalined the problem we had encountered and a replacement car with documentation was organised inside 20 minutes without any hassle . I'm really surprised at the past negative reviews but my experience with Europcar's staff at Cork Airport is very positive and am confident to recommend .

    Absolutely poor customer care and unreliable vehicles.

    My husband, who is renting a van for work, got a flat tyre on the motorway and called Europcar for help because they don't provide a spare tyre. He called around 5:20pm and got an already ridiculous estimated time of arrival for breakdown service for 8:30pm. He then got an updated time of arrival of 9:00pm! They then still didn't arrive until after 9pm when my Husband had been waiting on the hard shoulder for 4 hours!! Disgraceful service, dangerous and lazy. And to top it all off my Husband has said the employee that came to recover him was very rude! Shocking customer service and will never use the service again. - Also forgot to mention this is the second time this has happened and the first time he waited nearly as long for help. Unreliable vehicle and poor customer service. Update - contacted the following morning (today) enquiring about repair after they gave him no information whatsoever. Quoting repair time between "18:39 and 20:30"!! This means he has no transport to work today and is also still expected to pay for the days van hire even though the van in unusable. Disgraceful.

    BEWARE - premium location surcharge tripled price!!!!!!

    Booked a car online to pickup from Belfast international airport and was quoted around £45 only for them to sneak in a ‘premium location surcharge’ when you sign the rental agreement which TRIPLED the price I was expecting to pay. Will not be using Europcar again, it’s totally misleading and this price should have been quoted online when I booked. Beware

    Hours on the phone. No car, no refund

    I booked a hire car using the Kayak website. My money was taken, but I didn’t receive a confirmation email so I decided to call and check. - the hire company, Routes, had no online presence, but I noticed their address was the same as Europcar - I called Europcar. They had received my booking, but said they weren’t sure a car was actually available because I had booked at short notice. They asked me to call back on a different number. - I called the second number and explained again what had happened. The customer rep said he would contact the branch and put me on hold. After 20mins I received a recorded message that no one was available to speak to me and was cut off. - I called again and was put through to the branch. They said they had a car but it would actually cost more than double what I had paid. I said that was too much and wanted to cancel. They told me for a refund I would have to go back to Kayak. - I spoke to Kayak. They said they didn’t have my money. I needed to contact Expedia who were the intermediary on my booking. - I contacted Expedia. They said I had to get a refund from Europcar. I’ve now spent four hours trying to sort this mess out, have been charged but have no car. It’s amazing to see the pyramid of companies all determined to take their share of money from the public, but without taking any responsibility for actually delivering the service. In the end I contacted my local branch of Enteprise who have helped me out at a reasonable price. Who knows if I will ever get my money back from Europcar/Kayak/Expedia/Routes or whomever else took their share along the way.

    I should have checked the rating before…

    I should have checked the rating before I before booked with them! Their client service is absolutely appalling; the correspondence you receive after booking a car borders on threatening; they require you to download their app after making an online booking (presumably just harvesting more information on you to sell on); they do not reply to emails, nor messages on their website. It's like flying with a low budget airline! And they used to be pretty good :-(

    I used priceline to secure a car rental…

    I used priceline to secure a car rental through europcar. Due to airline delays we were unable to pick up the car until the next day When we went up to the europcar rental desk at Manchester airport and explained the situation, they said the rental had been canceled. I had prepaid the rental through priceline, it was non-refundable. I had several appointments to keep and needed a car. I was unable to contact priceline about the situation. I ended up renting from europcar, because the other rental places didn't have a vehicle available. I think that europcar car were completely outline and they should have honored the reservation Good customer service always brings customer back I will not use europcar again. I recommend all other travelers to be aware of their sly, possibly underhanded business practices I will be contacting priceline upon return to the US. Europcar uk, responded to the above review of their service by giving me am email address. If they were really interested in helping. They would have looked up my name in their records. The email address is generic and does not give me a person to contact. Probably generated using AI

    Eupocars sold us off to Routes cars and mislead us!!

    I purchase car hire through Eurocars because they were a large well know company. Eurocars sold us out to Routes cars Vancouver because apparently Eurocars don't trade in Canada. We weren't told this when we booked. They also advice you to visit the Eurocars desk in Vancouver airport (its doesn't exist) we had to wait 30 minutes for a shuttle to collect us and drive 20 minutes to the routes rental collection and another 20 minutes sorting out the car as they tried to tell me I had to pay extra for another driven even though I had included this at booking. They also took $500 deposit, again not mentioned when booking! We had been travelling for almost 24hours with 2 kids so NOT ideal!! We had problems with our car after finding out a temp repair had been done on a tyre previously and it should have never been given to us as it was unsafe. Routes hung up on me several times. refused to take responsibility for the repair cost so we could get back to Vancouver. Routes stated it was a Brand new car and it was our fault (the car had done 12000km! and I had a statement along with phots from the garage) I reach out to Eurocars for help and was told to contact the routes branch. So we had to foot the bill!!

    Booked car not available on time

    Booked online to pick car up at 08.00, when we arrive office say it’s not possible at this time to get car as they’d only open at 08.00. So took over 40 minutes to get it. No good if you need car for certain time.

    Helpful, honest car hire

    Very helpful car rental at Bergerac Gare. They went out of their way to meet our needs. We had no fear of unreasonable charges following the return of the car, as we have experienced with other companies. Highly recommend

    Pre-pay a car and don’t get a car

    Tried to rent a car. I live in the UK for 10 years and had never any issues renting a car. Europcar said the system could not verify my address (written on my driving license) and therefore we couldn’t rent a car. Worst service ever.

    Cancelled car with no communication

    Awful experience!!!! Booked my car hire well ahead of my holiday. My flight was delayed last night so I called europcar to explain I was unable to collect the car whilst at the airport waiting for my flight that was delayed by 3 hours as the Glasgow office would be closed on my arrival and I would have to collect Saturday morning. Agent said they would send an email to confirm my call. Glasgow Europcar had my flight number and phone number. I stayed in a hotel that was a 3 minute walk to Europcar and when I arrived at 9.30am I was told they had given it away the their 1st customer of the day as they put me down as a no show. Agent was rude not apologetic and told me I would need to pay £400 extra for a premium car!! When I explained that I called their call center he told me to call them again as there was nothing they could do as they had already cancelled my booking without Informing me. I called the call center for them to say as I could not collect at 10pm the car was released and a refund given, I was not told this when I called from the airport waiting for my delayed 3 hour flight. Left me at Glasgow airport with no form of transportation for me to get to Inverness. Worst customer service I have experienced in a long time!! If you can't get to your booked car due to no fault of your own and you have taken to steps protect your booking by calling the call center be prepared for your car to be cancelled and not to be informed until you go and collect. I will be putting in a formal complaint as I have not received my refund yet and I have had to find and extra £600 for a car from another company No holiday treats for me or my family!!

    I have to agree with the negative reviews

    I have to agree with the negative reviews on here. Staff at the Woodford Green branch were very friendly and helpful however I have been charged £102 after returning the car. Tried calling Customer Service but they pretended they didn’t know anything about the extra charge even though I provided evidence via email. I can’t afford to lose £102 so if anyone reading this also can’t afford to lose money then use another car hire firm. UPDATE: Europcar contacted me after I had made several contacts with them to say the £102 had been charged in error, as they had me down as a no show - how on earth is that possible? Thank you to Europcar for sorting this relatively quickly but I would still be extremely nervous about renting from them again.

    Europa car hire

    I book a car , you confirm and take my money instantantly You cancel on the day , because actually the vehicle is not available I then have to wait 7 days for refund Thanks Interested to know how you will solve this for me The link doesnt take you anywhere meaningful to my issue or anyone else’s . I’ve screenshotted my issue and sent on .. let’s see how you respond. Also , I’m still waiting for my refund So I can get a car to get me to work next week

    Awful company

    Absolutely terrible company. I would advise anyone to look elsewhere I prepaid for a car online, and I was paying the full Insurance. But when I went to pick the car up they did a soft credit check and it failed! So what, I've paid in full, and the full insurance. So even if I was of the mind to steal it the insurance was paid! This has left me without transport to pick my brother up from Bristol Airport, and it's to late to find an alternative. This must be the worst experience I have had with any company.
