A very strange case

A very strange case - I read that they went bankrupt in January 2019 and their clients switched to other operators. But, my friend made a switch to them in October 2021 and the gas card works normally ... What is going on ?????

Closed down by Ofgem.

Ofgem closed down Economy Energy in January 2019 following an official investigation into the supplier. In June 2018, the Economy Energy suffered backlash after customers complained about money being removed from their bank accounts without notice or explanation. The main reason for complain was that customers insisted that their accounts had been in order and that they owed no money to the supplier. This signaled the beginning of the end for the supplier. Customer complaints led to Ofgem opening a formal investigation, and at the beginning of 2019, the regulatory body banned the supplier from taking on new customers. One week later, the energy company ceased trading.

Repayment of my refund.

At last I have received my refund of £305 after pestering EE since I terminated my contract and direct debit 10 months ago with this criminal outfit. It puzzles me why the fraudulent directors of this failed company have not been prosecuted and are not languishing in prison for their part in the attempted theft from over 250,000 customers. I also wonder why Ofgem has not had disciplinary action taken against them for ignoring the problem for 3 months after it first emerged. This Quango is a total waste of space.

The bad experience continues

Over 12 months since I paid my final closing bill with Economy Energy, I now have a debt collecting agency on my case asking for payments I do not owe. I bought a house and changed energy supplier within 3 weeks - I paid a final bill amount that reflected the fact the house had been empty for those 3 weeks. I was harassed last August by the collections department for more money and now 12 months on, they are trying their luck again. When speaking to Allied International Credit who are requesting the payment, they were of no help and advised they could put my account on hold only for 4 days while a bill was requested from Grant Thornton. Rip off company.

Administrators and ofgem are rubbish

I was a customer that left well before they went bust .They kept taking direct debits which I tried to stop They agreed that they owed about £700 but would not repay it... they were trading while technically insolvent using customers credits and not paying ofgem levy. I managed to recall some direct debits ut they still owed me when they went into administration. Their records were rubbish and so are Grant Thornton who gave now decided I owe them £800 and set harassing debt collectors on me.Grant Thornton don't care and can't be bothered to reply. Ofgem do not care. Don't believe ofgem when they say your credits are safe when a supplier goes bust. In my opinion Grant Thornton are crap and I look forward to seeing them in court,,

Absolute Shysters!

In dispute with these criminals for months.. fictitious meter readings they make up!.stopped DD escalated dispute to OFFGEM. Couldnt switch in September becasue of outstanding payments due. They went belly up in January so any OFFGEM decisions are VOID! IBecause couldnt switch then stuck with 30 + % increase in gas and electricity. Now dealing with administrators Grant Thornton (using Economy Energystaff). They are a f+&'+ing nightmare. All they are effectively are DEBT COLLECTORS. im calculating 16 months at the fixed rate from the only meter read I have confirmed from them in writing . Once Ive done that ill pay it and then they can go to court for the rest! NO JUDGE WILL SIDE WITH THESE SHYSTERS, They should all be locked up!!

Being chased for imaginary debt

We left Economy Energy at the beginning of November 2018. At the time the account was signifcantly in credit. Despite having left, they took the 'next' direct debit at the end of November. We got that back from the bank using the direct debit guarantee and a couple of months later Ovo refunded the credit balance. Today I got a call from Allied International (an American debt collecting outfit) (the number on caller display was 0141 457 7074) about the balance. After some confusion where I thought they were calling me about the refund, they claimed that I owed Economy Energy £129 and when I told them that I didn't said that I had to prove that to them as they didn't have access to the original accounts, and that if I didn't they would just keep calling me. . . It looks like they have bought the debts from the liquidator and are seeking to browbeat people into payment. However, as it happens I'm a lawyer and look forward to seeing them in court.

I left economy energy over 9 months…

I left economy energy over 9 months ago. Account closed, final payment left my bank and was glad to leave due to numerous issues in the previous 12 months. Game over, I thought... Now I'm being chased by a debt collector agency for apparently £15 that I'm alleged to owe economy energy. No one has been in contact with me to inform me of this so called outstanding amount,I can't get any info as I'm not a customer anymore, Boost will not talk to me about it and I may have a credit black mark against me from a debt company . I'm seeking legal advice.

Still waiting for my rebate since last…

Still waiting for my rebate since last November, had final bill 11 weeks ago but still no money back, just contacted them again as they state on website it can take up to 5 weeks after final bill for money to be payed in, now being told to wait another 4 weeks. Something is not working with the rules set out for the customer rights, these company's would not be happy if I owed them money for a fraction of this time.

Shambolic energy company

There not worth a star.i had to do it to be able to leave a review ..ecomomy energy Just received a letter from the collection company appointed by the administrators 1year after I cancelled my contract with them. Apparently I owe them £182.00 I was in credit with them ....but economy energy would not refund my credit of over £200.00 and took 2 further payment from my bank account in November after getting the ombudsman involved I was credited £450.00 .....but now I owe them £182.00. How does that work.

of 7 Dec 2018 (before they went bust) see also www this is money .co uk search murky dealings Re. Econonmy Energy Dear Lubna Khilji No stars is a better rating for Economy Energy! Start paying the ex-customers their money and stop operating come illicit credit company. You owe ££millions in ROC payments and customers over-payments where you have deliberately overcharged people again and again even after they have left Economy Energy. Dear naive Economy Energy Customer relations person, Start getting paid up front as this company is going down! Not paying your creditors, customers and suppliers is the first sign of cash flow problems and a company going belly up. As for my issues I have been in touch with Economy Energy repeatedly and nothing changes all the same old excuses of back logs, working our way through spreadsheets. It is going to be repaid. Complete lies! At best Economy Energy are working to a deadline dates in their spreadsheets according to OfGEM specified time limits for complaints & repayment rules. Worst case, is there's no money and Lubna and John McKenzie in my opinion crooks trying to get as much money out now as they can. OfGEM needs to shut her down!
