East Coast Car Rentals is exceptionally well-rated by customers. Customers particularly appreciate service and professional, though some mention concerns about customer service and communication.
Smooth pickup and drop off car was good.
We hide A Renault small SUV for four days in it done approximately 4000 K, so was in good condition. The only annoying factor was a rattle in the drivers door. The service at the counter was good and fast as was the shuttle to the airport The right was okay cheaper than most but like everything these days too expensive. The only other negative comment that I would make is that their shuttle service only goes between their base and the airport. They don’t pick up or drop off at hotels. I know a lot of higher car companies only do that these days but Some will do the hotel pick up and return.
I have been using ECCR every time I travel to Melbourne. The experience was always great on the previous occasions and this time was no exception. Staff were friendly and quick and we got our two cars within 20 minutes. As we chose zero liability the staff did not even go through the cars with us and told us to just drive off. Returning was a breeze also. Just handed the keys to a guy after we parked and all good.
I've never used East Coast Cars before and so it was a gamble. I couldn't have been happier. From the pick up at the aiport to collection of the car, and then drop off and lift back 6 days later, I couldn't rate it highly enough. We ended up with what I think is a better car than I had booked (Mitsubishi ASX instead of a MG ZS). The staff were friendly, helpful and efficient, with clear communication on how to find the pick up point at the airport and also the drop off procedure. It was a great price for a great service and I will definitely use them again.

We just got on shuttle to airport 2 min before our boarding gate opened! The driver said he’d try his best and he really did exceed! We made the flight, despite heavy traffic to the airport. Our shuttle driver was very attentive to gaps in traffic and slow lanes! ECCR is so close to the official airport entry, and shuttles both ways were very frequent.

Using East Coast Rentals for my last holiday was a real disappointment. I don’t typically leave reviews but I do so today to warn other travelers before they book with this company: 1) Safety & Cleanliness: I rented a booster seat for my 6 year old son to use whilst on our trip in Sydney. The car seat did not have the necessary LATCH safety clips to attach to the vehicle we hired and when I asked for a replacement, it was declined. The car seat was also completely filthy with old food and muck in the holders. 2) Customer Service: The attendant who checked us in was highly assertive to sell the added insurance that went with the car program and explained that if any damage occurs to the vehicle a $5,500 fee would be charged, regardless of scope or if we already have insurance. When we declined the additional insurance she became passive aggressive. 3) Tolls: East Coast Rentals do not install toll beacons in their cars which means each time you drive a vehicle through a toll system you will be charged a $1.10 admin fee for each toll. 4) Finding East Coast Rentals: I had expected that following the company's instructions on their website to find their shuttle bus would be easy. It was not. The company does not have a suitable bus pick up location as compared to Hertz or other competitors. All in all there are a lot of areas the company could improve to ensure their clients have a better and safer experience!

Having picked up a smaller car than booked from Sydney Airport, the car had serious steering wobble from wheel misalignment. Newcastle came to the rescue, going out of their way to secure us a correct size car in good condition. The manager (Dan?) was particularly helpful

Complete lack of understanding, had booked a rental with ec for the week as the carlift in my building had broken down/ need a car for work and was told would be out of service for the rest of the week, repairs happened yesterday.. spoken to ec re a possibility of a partial refund which I was told twice yes that would be possible only to get a call back after literally beginning to make my way back to return the car a refund isn't possible because I opted for payment online ie. The least amount paid for renting the car, and I would incur a 50 dollar charge for returning the car early.. first and last time renting anything with east coast rentals

One of the worst rental experiences we’ve ever had — and we were stranded with a toddler. Our flight landed at 10:00 PM (only 15 mins late), and by the time we collected our luggage and called East Coast Car Rentals at exactly 10:30 PM, their office was already shut. No one answered, no instructions were provided, and we had no way to access the car we had booked. We had to scramble late at night with a child under 2, pay for multiple taxis — to their office, then to our accommodation, and again the next morning — just to finally get the vehicle. To make matters worse, when they called back the next day, the staff were completely unapologetic and rude, repeatedly blaming us and showing zero empathy. Then, when I called on the day of return to simply ask how long the car return process usually takes so I could plan my journey, I was met with one of the rudest customer service reps I’ve ever spoken to. He outright refused to give me any timeframe and wouldn't explain why I couldn’t request an airport shuttle over the phone. Very poor operations. No accountability. No support. And absolutely disgraceful customer service. Never booking with them again.

They keep charging my credit card without any information about what for! Would expect some kind of explanation before doing this weeks after car returned. Looks like duplication of charges

This last Easter we rented from Brisbane Airport to holiday down to Sydney. Our car developed a key fault preventing us locking the car. This was on Good Friday and we were in a small town (Kyogle). No local assistance obviously hence we rang East Coast at Brisbane Airport. Dana, the manager we later found out explained that all their vehicles were out but said ring back the following day and she will have sorted something for us. On ringing back on the Saturday (her day off) she explained she had got a new RAV4 and had arranged for a staff member to deliver it to us some 2 1/2hrs south of Brisbane. We were blown away by the service with a smile and really appreciated the solution and effort they went to keep us mobile. Such a great way to turn a negative into a positive and we are fans.

I booked a car with East Coast Rentals via Booking.com and, overall, the experience was disappointing due to a lack of transparency and communication. I had already purchased full coverage insurance through Booking (covering damage, theft, and excess fees), and I know from previous rentals that rental companies are informed of this when the booking is made. However, at the counter, the staff did not acknowledge this at all. They simply said that “with what I had included,” I would need to leave a $1000 AUD deposit and be liable up to that amount. No explanation was given about the Booking insurance or how it applied. Feeling unsure after a long trip, I paid an extra $150 AUD for their own coverage — something I wouldn’t have done if the situation had been explained clearly. The car (an MG) functioned okay but had very dim headlights — far from ideal when driving at night in Tasmania, where wildlife is common. Only when returning the car was I told there was a dial under the steering wheel to adjust the lights — something completely non-intuitive that no one had explained, and which the staff dismissed with a “read the manual” comment. The most frustrating moment was the fuel situation. I refueled the car completely about 30 minutes before drop-off. The staff then used that same car to drive us to the airport and back — a journey after our rental had ended. When he returned, the fuel gauge showed one bar down. I received a call while already at the airport gate, saying I would either need to return and refuel or be charged $4 AUD per litre. I went back, topped off the tank with $7 AUD, but the gauge didn’t move. I added another $2 AUD, still no change. The gauge finally updated during the drive back to the airport — clearly a delayed reading, not an actual fuel issue. I found the whole situation unnecessary and unfair. The staff wasn’t rude, but the overall experience felt poorly handled and not transparent. I wouldn’t recommend East Coast Rentals, especially to international travellers.

We rented a car at Collins street agency and we were quite disappointed by the service. The lady who took care of us was not customer oriented, mainly on her phone during dealing with us. She didn't really checked the car. Also, we had some issues to pass through the gate to leave the carpark. We've been said 3 times "it should work" but it didn't. Finally someone took over and that worked but my partner had to go back and forth multiple times. I wouldn't recommend the Collins Street agency but I wouldn't blame the whole company.
