Review summary
Dexters Estate Agents receives consistently positive reviews. Customers particularly appreciate service and professional, though some mention concerns about communication and customer service.
Renting out your home of over 14 years is never easy, logistically or emotionally.
Elizabeth and the team at Dexters have guided us through this journey with professionalism, diplomacy, and efficiency. We’re incredibly grateful for their support and understanding, especially given that the process is rarely straightforward or predictable. Thank you!
Dexters - especially Joshua Anthony - have made the renting process really straightforward. Joshua responds to queries immediately, gets things moving, and keeps you updated - you couldn't ask for more!
Bethan Pike was our property manager and has probably been the most caring and attentive person we've had manage our tenancy. When we ever had issues with the property, she was always responsive and helpful and also managed the end of our tenancy/deposit very well, handling a dispute with our landlord. We've had horrendous experiences with estate agents and private landlords in the past so it's a breath of fresh air to know there are great people out there.
Lottie at Dexters in Surbiton was on the ball, and always called me back if I left a message. She is very helpful and keen, and a great asset to Dexters. I would recommend using Lottie for your next house sale.
Dexters did a great job in setting up multiple viewings very quickly, which resulted in multiple offers, including in excess of the asking price.
Lottie handled all the subsequent admin very efficiently - this was a Probate sale, with the added complication of the property not having been registered on the Land Registry website.
She kept up the dialogue between all parties, which resulted in the successful completion.
The Surbiton Dexters team are a team - highly recommended.
Conrad from the surbiton office was excellent throughout the whole process- from viewings to helping secure a property for me. Thank you and highly recommended.
I have found them to be very unhelpful and, in my opinion, very underhand. I went to speak to them again this week as they have a home I am interested, and it all came crashing back!
AVOID Dexters Richmond!!
they are only after money with no services!
made an offer for a property and the offer was accepted
the agent started chasing me for holding deposit (1 week rent) which I paid immediately to secure the property
then he started pushing me to pay 5week's rent (deposit) and 6months rent in advance WITHOUT even sending me the tenancy agreement!!
I asked why do I have to pay now, and he said it is a standard to pay before signing and told me I need to pay within 48 hours!
I refused and quote the TDS and Dexters' website saying you should never pay before signing the tenancy agreement.
Then, he stopped pushing me to pay however he never answers to my questions regarding to amend some terms in the tenancy agreement.
No matter how many times I have addressed the issue, he still send me a tenancy agreement with a standard template without answering my request to amend some of the terms.
Furthermore, after I paid the holding deposit, the property is still listed on their website and Rightmove! I asked them to take it down as it is what the holding deposit is for, they did not respond!
Therefore I withdraw my offer and requested a refund of my holding deposit as they never taken down the property.
Until now I still have not received my holding deposit back!
I demand a refund of my deposit, please handle as soon as possible!
AVOID Dexters Richmond!!!
Just sold my property through Dexters Streatham. A big thank you to Jordan Pearman, Neda Kayhani and all the team. You all worked very hard, arranged weekly viewings and gave me feedback every Monday. You have succeeded where others have failed and I can't thank you enough. I highly recommend Dexters, especially Streatham branch, I have aleady recommended you to family and friends.
I have been dealing with Dexters for my flat rental for many years and have found them to be responsive and efficient. I have been particularly impressed recently with the services of Leila Lebbeh dealing with a new tenancy and Nabil Subahni who is providing a superb property management service.
Awful service when moving into a 3 bedroom rental (£2,500pm)
Was looking for a 3 bedroom to rent for myself and my children.
Relationship started well, the Tooting Broadway branch were friendly and helpful enough and I found a suitable property.
And I will make a point that the sales team were very helpful, friendly and supportive.
However...
First Red flag - very pushy, overly so. I was expected to pay for a 6 week deposit without ever seeing a contract! Then 'threats' that if I didn't pay, the landlord would continue taking viewings and offers (despite me paying a holding deposit).
Tips for next time - ask what the end-to-end process is and when different payments are due, when a draft contract will be shared and when an inventory report can be expected.
It's stressful enough having to move, but compounded with pressure of being asked to pay deposits (within 48 hours!) adds to it.
Then after I asked for a contract, a draft was produced - Dexters were not proactive in providing (I wonder why). A contract should have been provided before i paid the deposit.
Then we commenced contract negotiations. There were many items I wished to negotiate on. Dexters and the Landlord couldn't move on anything.
They were unhelpful, unsupportive and clearly looking after the interests of the landlord.
I had to take legal advice from a AST solicitor. I was told that the contract was unbalanced (towards the landlord) and 'sloppy' as contained irrelevant points and clauses.
I was under pressure to proceed with this property as time was against me and my children required confidence in where they were going to live.
When I moved in, the house was filthy. Had not been cleaned at all, and by the looks of it, the previous tenants did not clean the property. Thick grime on kitchen surfaces, soil and rubbish left.
I had to ask for the inventory report and started documenting items myself before it was sent. Confidence further reduced. Perhaps Dexters knew about the condition of the property...
If I'd have known how bad it was, I would have had the property fully cleaned (myself if I have to) before I moved in, rather than trying to clean after I've moved in around boxes and dismantled furniture.
When I asked the landlord (politely pointing out that he can take the cleaning costs from the previous tenants deposit, as the contract states 'professional cleaning') if he'd contribute to cleaning - he told me to leave it as I found it and he was aware of the condition.
Perhaps the landlord (Mr G) has a very low standard of cleanliness or perhaps holds any tenants in such low regard.
Found maintenance issues with the property related to plumbing and hot water - basics!
It seems to me that Dexters Tooting know about the condition of this property and have told me they will continue to do business with the landlord.
My previous agents were John D Wood (Wandsworth Common) - super helpful, professional with a fantastic landlord. Before that an agent in Fulham who were just as professional and proactive.
I will never move into a rented property marketed by Dexters Tooting. And quite frankly, I wouldn't want any of my hard earned income to fund their business if/when I'm in a position to buy another property in the area.
And if I decide to work with any others Dexters', I will ask for an inventory report before I move in and confirmation that everything in the property is functional before I pay a deposit and sign a contract.
It's easy for the Agents to say the cleanliness and maintenance issues are with the landlord and it's nothing to do with them. But is that the type of agent you really want to be working with when housing your family?
Good luck.
This is the honest review. They have got a lot of dishonest reviews from people before finalising the deal including me where they come out like good guys. They are the biggest scammers - I had two separate tenancies with them in both of them I left the apartment in time (weeks before) with keys and clean. And still they keep charging for one extra day - using excuses like our manager can only inspect on that particular day or your check didn’t cover one days rent. I mean how low can one go. I have worked with other agents in London and outside and never had this bad experience .
Jordan has been very professional and quick to respond to any queries through out our experience with Dexter’s. Highly recommend using this specific branch.
