Review summary
Amber Electric receives consistently positive reviews. Customers particularly appreciate service and quality, though some mention concerns about customer service and expensive.
Amber electric have upped my usage charge by 3 times my original costing. Doubling my previous bill. I work full time hardly home with 2 people in the house. When asked why it is so high. They said I used more that month. Not double the amount. I will not use them again it recommend them.
The best electricity retailer I have had for 20 years
This is a great company if you use lots of electricity.
They give you warnings when the price is expensive so you can cut back your usage. The rest of the day your power is less then half the price of other power companies. As they price power on how much the are charged, not what they can get away with like other companies. They also send you details in the beginning of each season on their maximum charge related to peak pricing. They also have an app that shows how much power you are using at anytime and how much solar is going back into the grid.
When you have any questions they get back to you quickly.
Amber is the best electricity supplier I have had in the last 20 years.
Outstanding product. We get our electricity at cheaper price and best of all get great export prices. Customer service has been amazing, explaining each questions answer clearly with the assistance to talk us through what we needed to do. Well done guys
A breath of fresh air, with a company that is allowing solar and battery installers to be rewarded for their investment. Other companies, have reduced solar input to 3 cents per kw, an insult. Looking forward to a mutually rewarding experience, where we are rewarded for our investment.
We are moving on from Amber electric after about 2 months of using them.
I anticipated that based on when we used electricity and how much we export to the grid we would save approx $150 per year.
However, the app generates warnings after they've happened sometimes hours later! And with the recent explosion in QLD at the callide power station the constant price spikes are really eating into any savings. The first day it happened I switched everything except my fridge off to maximise the huge solar feed in tariff and yet some how I generated $3.00 of solar while at the time the feed in price peaked my system was generating 2 - 4 kwh. I ensured that everything was kept to a minimum usage to save money and to help the grid which was struggling to meet demand.
I expected the days energy cost to be high but boy i got a rude shock the next day when I saw our energy usage charges were $88 for the DAY for less than 30kw of usage!
We've been on a small get away ever since (thankfully) but we are due to go back tomorrow and I am still seeing peak forcecast pricing around $17kwh, although it does tend to be lower. Basically the issue this has caused has negated any possible savings, and will actually cost me more money than it otherwise would have until my new energy company will switch me over.
After changing to a different energy provider it has become apparent to me that amber electric is a scam and please do not sign up for it.
I have rung up several times ( that just goes immediately to a voice mail saying I will receive a call back- I never do) and sent several emails to cancel my service. They either get ignored or I get a generalized email saying that my service has been disconnected and they will no longer send me bills. The next month rolls around and I will receive another bill. This has now been going on for 4 months.
I can't even change my direct debit to another account so they can't keep taking my money.
What I originally thought was a great idea and company has truly turned into a nightmare.
After some very lengthy delays getting switched and a smart meter installed, we thought we were happy with the wholesale price...UNTIL A PRICE SPIKE COMES ALONG AND NEGATES ANY SAVINGS OR YOU ARE CHARGED FOR PROVIDING TOO MUCH SOLAR INTO THE GRID 🤷🏻♀️. This was all transparent but be warned the reality is not practical for working families.
We are a family of 5 and don’t use energy during the day so this plan does not work for us. I find it stressful having to monitor usage while I am trying to cook dinner in the dark as there is yet another price spike in the evening. It’s the second time this week. I feel as tho it’s war time rations with my energy. Telling my kids and husband to only turn on lights in the room they are using, wait to wash your clothes for another time as too pricey now and no dishwasher. No thanks this is just not working for me. We are very environmentally conscious and are paying more for electricity than with Energy Australia or Energex. No thanks It’s time for me to move on.
I love Amber.
I'm definitely MUCH happier - and FAR better off - paying wholesale for my electricity.
Their website's a bit lacking in its usefulness, so you need to engage customer service via e-mail or Twitter for all account queries or changes, but once you get through the reps are *really* helpful. I think once they grow a little they'll be able to add some more functionality and polish - but don't mark them down for that just yet.
They're doing something innovative in the eletricity retail market and I'm pleased to be along with them.
I had already researched and selected a low cost electricity provider. Then I saw information on Amber. I thought, I can make the switch, if it isn't any good, I can switch back. Amber organised the installation of a smart meter. Their subcontractor was polite and finished inside 30 minutes. I haven't had a full quarter's bill yet, but on the average per day, I'm looking at a marked decrease, plus I have more information on my usage.
Excellent service and app. Looking forward to self contained & app. incorporated zigbee dynamic appliance control options that I believe are being developed.
Amber gives great value. The Amber app is terrific, giving masses of useful information, allowing me to make the best choices about how much energy I use at any given time.
Love Amber. Cheaper electricity. Wonderful customer service. Easy to use app and can see how much electricity I use and what I pay. Makes charging my electric vehicle a breeze.
