Been a tenant for 3 years

Been a tenant for 3 years. This situation has been extremely challenging, unprofessional, and discriminatory. Despite sending numerous emails to the office, particularly to an individual named Olivia Laycock MARLA, the Manager, my £2500 deposit has not been returned, and I have been denied a copy of the lease agreement. As a consumer and tenant in the UK, I am entitled to request a copy of the lease agreement and the return of my deposit. I have lodged a complaint with their Complaints Department, but have not received any response. I have made countless phone calls, only to be hung up on. My tenancy agreement ended in October 2024, yet I am being pressured to pay rent until March 2025, despite vacating the property in April 2024 and fulfilling my lease obligations until the end date. I have personally experienced bullying and disrespect, including an incident at their main office involving their main director, Mr. Chan, with Olivia providing cover for him. With no other recourse, I have resorted to legal action to recover my funds. I urge others to steer clear of these individuals, as they exhibit unprofessionalism, rudeness, and discrimination.

An absolute nightmare of an experience

An absolute nightmare of an experience. I would never recommend such unprofessional service to anyone. I was constantly chasing them for updates, as they showed no initiative or effort throughout the process. They confirmed in writing via email that my bid had been accepted and sent instructions for the next steps. I proceeded with AML checks, which I paid for, spoke to a solicitor, took a day off work, and arranged a meeting with a mortgage advisor—only to be told later that someone else had made a higher offer. Of course, a higher bid means a higher commission for them, so they handed it over to the other buyer without hesitation. Even after this, I received no communication from the Crewe agency. I sent several follow-up emails, all of which were ignored. In hindsight, I should have paid attention to their one-star Trustpilot reviews before dealing with them. Please, do yourself a favor and stay away.

Shambles whitegates

Whitegates estate agents Walton Vale unprofessional! I enquired a property to rent ( WALTON VALE LIVERPOOL ) via rightmove approx 2 weeks ago, phoned them up last week in which they took my details and said there should be viewings next week. Double checked Rightmove today and the property has been taken off! What a waste of space, the staff lack communication and customer skills, how they keep in business. If I failed my customer twice my line manager will be asking questions! Over looking a customer once is bad enough, but, a second time after a complaint has been there's something wrong and must be sorted before a third complaint goes in

AT
Ridiculously High Rents

Sorry but where do you get some of the prices of some of your rents from? Looking at images of some of your properties available for rent and I'm shocked. £700pcm for a 2 bed terraced house with a room with no flooring, exposed pipes and decor that looks outdated even by 90s standards? We're not talking in a city centre here either we're talking a small town in West Yorkshire. £650pcm for a 1 bed house which again, has a room with no floors, white goods that are incredibly stained with tobacco, no wonder young people and families can't afford to move!

It’s my first time to rent a property…

It’s my first time to rent a property for my family here in UK as a foreigner. I thought it’s going to be tough but after I submitted all the necessary documents and got processed it went very smoothly. The agent is very friendly and professional especially Nicola Tuplin. She is so far the best agent, very friendly and easy to get along with. She’s also accommodating and tend to our needs right away when we ask for assistance in the property. I salute with her dedication. Whitegates is a good letting company and I didn’t regret choosing them when I’m looking for my first home to stay here in UK. Good company, dedicated agents and friendly people.

FTB friendly

As a first-time buyer it's been really tough finding estate agents that are accommodating and easy to work with, even just for viewings! With Whitegates, booking a viewing was really straightforward and the team were much friendlier than a lot of the other local companies I've been in touch with. James was very professional, patient and gave a lot of really useful advice for my house hunt in general. I unfortunately haven't pursued the purchase of the property at this particular time for unrelated reasons, but would be more than happy to work with them in the future should things change and would 100% recommend them to anyone in a similar position.

Tenants at Whitegates Huddersfield leaves neighbours unhappy

Whitegates Huddersfield appear to take no interest in properties that they let out, however badly behaved the tenant, whatever noise or disruption or damage or anti social behaviour is caused by the tenant then they just ignore it. Lease says no business activity, Whitegates know that tenants run a construction business from home. Lease says no dogs, Whitegates know that tenant has a large disruptive dog. Lease says no alterations, tenants made major changes and Whitegates don't care.

I sold our house nearly 2 years ago and…

I sold our house nearly 2 years ago and have been looking for our forever home since. I have set my search radius of 40 miles from Dudley. In that time I dealt with probably hundreds of estate agents and auctioneers, and can honestly say that dealing with Whitegates (Macclesfield) has been a breath of fresh air. Good, honest, down to earth people. None of the false respect and lies that comes with most others. Calls were answered and where I had questions that they were unable to answer straight away, have got someone dealing with that particular house to call back with all the answers to my questions and more, giving most, if not the entire history of that particular property in question. There was NOT the slightest hint of any form of racism, as mentioned in previous reviews, unlike some other Estate Agents I could mention, even then I think they were only protecting there own Demographic. All in all, a great and pleasant experience, actually giving back trust in this profession. If or when I find my forever home, I hope it's with WHITEGATES.

Unresponsive, passive, prejudice, racist, lazy

I have had experience of using (or trying to use Whitegates across Yorkshire regions (Leeds, Bradford, Kirklees, Wakefield). My experience with these guys has been incredibly frustrating. They are unresponsive, passive, prejudiced based on race/ ethnicity and lazy. They are devoid of genuinely caring about their customers. There was even an instant where I did not turn up to a viewing due to unforeseen circumstances without enough notice to notify, and I was sent an automated message asking how my viewing was. Granted once details are in the system, they reel off such automated messages. However, it just goes to show how devoid of a human touch their agency is and how they rely on automated responses, which even then they havent figured out how to use properly. It’s just a big machine. Whitegates, you should know why people use housing agencies, it’s because they need somewhere to LIVE. It’s a basic human right and a physiological need to have a roof over your head. It’s not like buying a car which you can do without. So it’s about time, you take people reaching out to you seriously. You have a monopoly, don’t abuse it. The straw that broke the camels back forcing me wrote this, was being judged by a letting agent who made a snarky comment while I was viewing a property: “you do know you have to be earning *x amount* to apply for this property?” I know that specific tone. I wonder how many white people she had said that to (Pontefract office). And when she saw who turned up for the viewing it was as if she had seen an alien. It was odd. It’s important to note, there are 2/3 staff I have had pleasant experiences with, that’s not to go unoticed (Dewsbury). I wish I had taken names. However, overall the whole system of whitegates is frustrating and impossible. I’ve noticed whitegates has responded to many reviews on here, stating people can’t be found on the system. Do you realise whitegates, people want to stay anonymous with their reviews? Don’t invalidate their experience.

They don't answer questions

Submitted enquiry about a property which was ignored. Anyone selling properties with them, I wouldn't bother if they don't answer queries.

Would give 0 stars if possible.

Would give 0 stars if possible. The brunt of the issues I faced with my tenancy was solely due to them. They are extremely poor in their communication and are too lazy to do their job. I would have to constantly chase and bombard them in order to get any response. I don't understand the purpose of them as I had to essentially do their job for them. For months, I complained about lights that didn't work in the apartment and the person I dealt with said that it was my duty to replace them. This person then left the company and I was not informed at all. After repeatedly chasing and calling to speak to someone, I was informed that she had left and I would be assigned someone else. The incompetence just continued and they finally agreed that the lights should be fixed by the landlord... after my move out date. So I had to move out in the dark which was extremely stressful and difficult, having working lights is a basic necessity which they repeatedly ignored. After moving out, the communication worsened regarding a deposit dispute. The dispute could have quickly and easily been resolved if they upheld their duties and actually communicated to the landlord effectively but that is never the case with whitegates. I decided to just resolve the deposit dispute because continuing to deal with this agency would have just wasted a considerable amount of time and energy.

Avoid this estate agent

Avoid this estate agent. Worst experience of my life by renting property through them. Worst staff they just want to steal money from your deposit by making false claims.. Avoid renting this property through them 53 penny hill drive BD14 6NH. The landlady of this house make your life hell though her racist friend living next door to this house. I lived in this property for 7.8 yrs throughout this time I was continuously harassed, threatened by Annabel Myers (works at Whitegates ), landlady and her friend living next door of 53 penny hill drive and Whitegates failed to resolve any issues I was facing. They treat you like a rent prisoners and tried to controlled you. Soon I will be posting all the communications I had with this estate agent on different social media channels. I am also reporting them to trading standards and property ombudsman.
