Extremely Disappointing Experience with JUCY – Safety & Hygiene Concerns Ignored Unfortunately fell far below the standards we expected, especially having had a great experience hiring in the past. From the outset, the vehicle presented multiple serious issues: Rear Suspension: Constant squeaking that made us question the safety and roadworthiness of the van. Black Mould: There were visible mould stains and patches of black mould inside the vehicle. Completely unacceptable in any rental, and downright dangerous for my partner, who has a respiratory condition and is highly sensitive to mould. Rear Doors: Both rear doors were extremely difficult to open, adding to our frustrations. We contacted your after-hours support line on Day 1 and requested a vehicle swap. We were not advised that this was even an option, leaving us stuck with a substandard and potentially unsafe vehicle for the entire trip. When returning the van, we again raised our concerns and were told by your staff that we should be entitled to compensation. We’re still awaiting confirmation on this. They also mentioned that mould stains are to be expected in a vehicles in Cairns. This experience was both disappointing and unacceptable, not just due to the condition of the vehicle, but the lack of support we received during the hire. We sincerely hope JUCY takes this feedback seriously. We will not be hiring from JUCY again unless there is a clear improvement in vehicle maintenance, hygiene, and customer care.

Too stressful to enjoy our holiday

The vehicles available are in a shocking and unsafe condition. We had to change vehicle halfway through our trip and only receives a measly sum in compensation. We have since been charged for an AA call out with a dead battery. The battery had to be replaced two days after this callout. The mechanic, upon seeing the battery, highlighted that this was in fact the wrong battery for the vehicle! Please avoid!

A Near-Death Experience – Do NOT Rent from JUCY

We put our trust in JUCY when we hired a campervan for a winter trip through New Zealand, expecting a roadworthy vehicle that could handle the harsh seasonal conditions. What we got instead was a complete disaster that nearly cost us our lives. From day one, the van proved to be dangerously unfit for the road. We lost control multiple times on straight, de-iced roads — and it wasn’t just us. A local road worker pulled us aside to tell us flat out: this vehicle should never have been on the road. That’s not just disappointing — that’s criminal negligence. The mechanical and structural issues were endless: The roof leaked, soaking our bed and sleeping gear. The hose for draining grey water was broken, leaving us stuck with stagnant waste. The shower was completely non-functional. Worst of all: there was a GAS LEAK. That’s not just an inconvenience — that’s a serious, potentially deadly hazard. This wasn’t just a bad experience. It ruined our trip. We had no choice but to cut it short and return home early after what can only be described as a near-death experience. JUCY’s negligence, lack of maintenance, and disregard for customer safety is unacceptable. Do not trust JUCY with your safety or your holiday. They clearly do not inspect or care for their vehicles properly. This company is an absolute disgrace and should be held accountable before someone actually dies.

Overall avoid!

Pros - Cheapest big company van rental (but you get what you pay for), staff are friendly, with the extra insurance check out and in very easy and quick (in hindsight too quick didn't really tell us how to make the bed etc), they paid for a replacement gasmate bbq when ours broke, you can stand up in the van Cons - very poor build quality and space lay-out. The van is massive but they utilise the space so so poorly. No clothes storage. No bin. Gas BBQ is in a box you have to take out every time (unlike other vans we have rented where its just a pull out draw. Bed is a massive massive faff to make everything. It involves removing a 3 part table and then rearranging loads of cushions before putting a sheet on. Again other vans just utilise the space way way better!

The worst customer service I never had

The worst customer service I never had. Landed at Christchurh airport, called the office asking for shuttle to pick up our rental car, guess what? No one answer the called at all, kept calling for 15 mins and still no one answered. Ended up we had to ask other car rental shuttle to drop us off. When we complained to the front desk, the staff not even apologized, just told me you only called for 15 mins which not that long. The staff didn’t get the point, if we didn’t get the shuttle from other car rental company, how long we should get a shuttle. And we found out we are not the only one complained the problem, there were other people had the same issues too. If people looking for car rental ,JUCY definitely is the worst, don’t rental their car.

Do not book with this company, it will ruin your holiday!

In short, just don’t book with this company, it will ruin your holiday. Vans are old, none of the equipment works and the customer service is shocking. We hired a Jucy crib for 3.5 weeks. We had to book last minute so knew we wouldn’t get our first choice company but did not realise Jucy would be so terrible! We collected our van from Christchurch. We were shown around everything very quickly and the staff seemed disinterested and weren’t that helpful. You have to pay extra for chairs and tables, the table we were given had a big crack down the middle so completely unusable. Luckily we checked and they gave us another which was marginally better. We got on our way and got to our first campsite where we realised the water tank was leaking, the fridge didn’t get cold and the gas cooker didn’t light. So we couldn’t cook any dinner on our first night. When we rang Jucy we were told the out of hours team weren’t able to do anything and to wait for someone to call back. We waited and waited, no one called. We spent the majority of our second day on the phone being passed between different people saying it wasn’t their problem. We eventually came up with the idea of taking the van to Queenstown when we were passing through and swapping it for another. In the meantime we had to buy water and a new gas burner and had no working fridge. When we arrived in Queenstown the van was not ready for us (despite having had 48hours warning) so we had to wait for another morning whilst they got a van ready. When the brought it round the fridge in the new van also didn’t work and there was not enough cooking utensils to make a meal for 2 people (who is checking these vans before they give them to people??). Once we had had to hang around even longer whilst they sorted this we could then get on our way. We later realised one of the doors wouldn’t open so had to go back again to get them to fix it. We missed all our activities we had booked that day and wasted the money we spent on them. The following day we drove from Queenstown to Wanaka. As we started going down the hill, the whole van started shaking whenever we applied the breaks. We pulled over and called Jucy. Again, we were given minimal reassurance and wasted another day waiting for the roadside recovery to come and check the van. The brakes were dangerous but we were told it was just an old van and no to worry. I would question the safety levels of these vehicles! Once we arrived in Auckland at the end of our trip we had been assured that we would get a refund for the days wasted at the beginning. On arrival the Auckland team said there were no notes on our file and therefore we couldn’t get a refund. So again we wasted another afternoon trying to sort this and only ended up receiving a couple of hundred dollar compensation for over 6 days wasted holiday. What a terrible company, I wouldn’t recommend them to anyone.

Would not recommend!!

Terrible customer service experience. Have used jucy many time and with my recent experience they were not helpful at all, made a mistake with my booking and never received any reminder. Now jucy is claiming it all to be my fault. They are just after taking peoples money. Absolutely so disappointing when they could not offer me anything or no other alternative option. Would not recommend now to anyone !

Interior was dirty and not in great condition

The van provided to us was really old, with over 400,000 kilometers on it. If Jucy is going to rent out old vehicles, they should consider replacing all the interior components. Mechanically, the vehicle was 'okay,' but the interior, specifically the bedding and mattress did not feel clean. The sliding side door never closed properly and will never lock the first time.

levensgevaarlijk, een wrak en gevaar op de weg!

We huurden van 26-09-2023 tot 23-11-2023 een Jucy crib plus. We zagen meteen dat het een veel oudere auto was dan verwacht. Hij was wel nieuw gespoten zo werd gezegd. De watertank was niet te gebruiken omdat die niet gereinigd was werd er bij verteld. We zagen op dat moment een zeer vervuild dashboard en een totaal versleten stuur. Maar goed met deze auto moesten we het doen, let wel we gingen er de hele oostkust van Australië mee rijden, meer dan 3000km. Eenmaal op weg bleek dat het dashboard totaal niet werkte, we konden het met moeite aflezen. De koplampen bleken dermate aangetast dat we er in de avond niet mee konden rijden en er hingen allerlei zaken los aan de auto zoals de plastickappen aan de A-stijl en de deurpanelen aan de binnenkant, maar ook de plastickappen aan de buitenkant van de deuren, welke we zelf met tiewraps hebben proberen vast te zetten. Het ergste was echter de wegligging, de auto had voortdurend de neiging om van achteren uit te breken en schommelde op de wielen. Op een dag met lichte regen op een bochtige weg in de bergen werd ons dit bijna fataal. De auto brak volledig uit en we kwamen in een slip en daardoor op de andere weghelft met tegemoetkomend verkeer. Let wel we gingen niet harder dan vijftig kilometer per uur. Ik moest drie keer corrigeren om hem weer recht op de weg te krijgen. Het was levensbedreigend. Verder kan ik melden dat de ophanging van de linker achterdeur tijdens de reis afbrak en het ons dagen gekost heeft omdat Jucy geen vervangende auto kon regelen. Een garage heeft de deur gesloten maar durfde geen veiligheidsgarantie te geven. We konden de deur niet meer gebruiken en moesten aan de andere kant zitten om risico te vermijden. Jucy is met een compensatie gekomen waar we niet tevreden mee zijn, maar moeten accepteren. Ze vinden ondanks alles dat deze auto te gebruiken was en zien dus niet in dat ze hiermee mensen in gevaar brengen. Deze auto was een wrak en had nooit mogen worden verhuurd! Terrible experience

Terrible experience. The stereo charging ports and refrigerator all were not operating properly resulting in wasted food and having to plan around. Upon returning we were told we could not get more than a 10% refund since we did not call before returning, even though it is obvious these items were not functioning.. Avoid Jucy. Try another company unless you want a pos 2004 van in which everything is broken.

I do not like companies that respond…

I do not like companies that respond quickly once they see a Trustpilot review stating - please contact us directly and then nothing happens - no follow up nothing. See my earlier review Hi Thanks for responding so promptly to my Trustpilot review: Company wouldn't answer the phone to arrange shuttle from airport despite being called within the 'required' operating hours timeframe. Goldcoast depot wouldn't 'pick up' the phone to arrange collection from airport and therefore I was transferred to a central team whom was extremely rude on the phone. I eventually had to get a cab from the airport at my expense - having been travelling almost 24 hours. The car provided was battered, filthy, scratched and embarrassing - THEN the car wouldn't even start. Staff member (one guy present to cover the whole site) was then frantically running around to find another car from the pool - ended up with one that was cleaner externally but disgusting inside. We had no choice but to take the car as there were no other options - really really dreadful overall service. Date of experience: 17 November 2023 Booking reference: Booking number: DC-6487547 Confirmation number: 684176E9206F13D Just to elaborate on the call to arrange shuttle collection - it was quite apparent that due there only being one guy at the Goldcoast depot (who was going on annual leave and it was late afternoon), this was obviously the reason as to why he didn’t pick up. The ‘lady’ at the call centre kept telling me that I was ringing the wrong number despite me confirming with her that I was calling the right number and had indeed gone through the correct pick up location selection option. After ending up talking to her second or third time I asked that she forward the call which she did and I then got to speak to Ben. Now I was told that due to the delays in them collecting my call, Ithey couldn’t send a shuttle (he was the only guy there really) and I had to get a taxi. Obviously, once my wife and I collected our luggage we found a taxi and paid for that ourselves….. The car we eventually have was simply a last resort, it’s covered 220000Km miles :(, not prep’d not cleaned and we simply took it as we were now becoming desperate. I wish I had paid more to get an SUV or something that might have been younger, cleaner, prepared and able to drive with confidence. We’re driving a long way in this car and I’m not confident about its reliability- we’ll see. I must admit it was a bit of an eye opener whenever we turned up at the family wedding in it :) I look forward to hearing back from you.
