I have been using iDrive for several years to backup our desktop and laptop PC. I have generally been quite happy with the product until now.
Seven weeks ago iDrive started failing during online backup of one particular 256MB file. After many interactions with support they referred it to their "backend team". There has been no progress and not a word. I ping them every week and get the same response.
I've had to resort to a local backup which I then copy to Google Drive. I will note that this is about 20X faster than IDrive online backup.
I have only begun using iDrive. I have used other backup systems which seemed confusing to me so that I was never sure I was doing it correctly. So far, I like iDrive because it has a user-friendly interface for someone not really computer-savvy. I can back up to my external hard drive as well as the cloud, both backups can be accessed readily. I can backup on demand or on a pre-selected schedule. I have not yet tried the restore function. I have not yet made a mirror image of my computer, but to back up all my personal data took about 3 hours. Incremental backups take a few minutes. So far I am happy and have recommended iDrive to two people in my life.
I got a great introductory offer and the software is more user friendly than the Acronis package I replaced it with.
Understandably, the first full backup took a long time. But the second was completed in just five minutes as only amended or new files were needed.
I use their Linux script to backup my data. The script with an interactive command line interface is very smart and easy to use. However, the uploading speed is not very satisfactory, probably because my ISP has limited network capacity to Dublin.
I had been using CrashPlan for many years. Then one day I decided to check to see if my backup was working. I found to my horror that most of my most important files were not backed up - at all. Just the folders were there but nothing in the folders. It looked like data was there, but nothing in the folders. I quickly researched what is the best backup software for Mac.. I downloaded iDrive and started to immediately back up all my data. It is very easy to setup and I could immediately see that my files were being stored off site at iDrive.
IDrive has a good reputation and reasonable price.
I signed up with IDrive because it had good reviews and I was having customer support help from another vendor. After numerous texts and emails, they never contacted me or made any attempt to fix my problems. IDrive was easy to use and provides me status daily. I also appreciate the reasonable price. I look forward to a long relationship with IDrive.
Lots of space and while the interface isn't perfect this has been leagues better than what I've used before. I will gladly take some flaws over the ridiculous prices of other more popular cloud storage systems.
iDrive is pretty much the standard when it comes to storage, backup, and sync. It's extremely affordable, capable well beyond what any other program provides, and is consistent in both keeping my files up to date, and keeping them sync'd by far the best service out there.
The online backup is pretty straightforward to use. I was able to easily select only what I wanted backed up. My one gripe is that the Estimated Time remaining is wildly inaccurate. My 360GB backup was estimated at around 12 hours. It's been 13 hours now and only 10%. has been backed up. Might as well not even provide an estimate.
I have used this product for several years and have not had any problems. The iDrive Express is a GREAT fast and convenient way for doing the initial backup rather than taking FOREVER to upload it from your computer.
Simple backup software that just copy your data to the cloud without a hassle, an important thing to know is that you sould lear all the config optiones, for example the deafult configuration does not register as error file access/permissions errors, so your backup could finish as success, but you may miss a portion of your folders/files if you have tweaked the File systm ACL. So far, so good.
Il servizio non è male, migliore alla fine di altri tipo backblaze, anche solo il fatto che si tratta di un vero backup, ovvero se eliminate files\cartelle dal vostro pc non sono eliminate dal backup ! che è quello che un servizio di backup dovrebbe fare! per cui, cosa che dovrebbe essere scontata ma non lo è, soddisfa quello per cui si richiede un backup. D'altra parte permette di fare pulizia dei vecchi file eliminati in locale se servisse, utile se non vogliamo più eseguire la copia di files\cartelle ormai eliminate dal pc. Per gli snapshot, be non sono proprio tali, il software non esegue il backup di file già sottoposti a backup, per cui non si può parlare di snapshot nel vero senso del termine. Insomma ci sono tanti punti di forza e qualche miglioramento da fare qui e la, e poi per il prezzo, insomma 10 Tb ottenuti per qualche euro il primo anno e poi un prezzo congruo per gli anni avvenire.....ma, alla fine non lo sto usando. Con una linea 1Gb\300 Mbit mentre su AWS, Google Cloud ma anche la parte consumer come Google Drive riesco a caricare a 30 MB al secondo quindi sfruttando la piena velocità di upload, su iDrive mi fermo a 50 Mbit, quindi circa 5 MB al secondo. Capirete che per sfruttare 10 TB ci vogliono 3 settimane ! non è fattibile un qualcosa del genere. Il problema tuttavia è noto, cercando on line la lamentela comune è la velocità.
Idrive offers a realiable and useful service that I use daily. I was sceptical at first to be honest, because the interface is horrible and I strongly suggest a face-lift, but the mechanics undearneath are solid.
