Review summary
IDrive Online Backup receives consistently positive reviews. Customers particularly appreciate service and reliable, though some mention concerns about customer service and communication.
I have been using iDrive for several years to backup our desktop and laptop PC. I have generally been quite happy with the product until now.
Seven weeks ago iDrive started failing during online backup of one particular 256MB file. After many interactions with support they referred it to their "backend team". There has been no progress and not a word. I ping them every week and get the same response.
I've had to resort to a local backup which I then copy to Google Drive. I will note that this is about 20X faster than IDrive online backup.
I have only begun using iDrive. I have used other backup systems which seemed confusing to me so that I was never sure I was doing it correctly. So far, I like iDrive because it has a user-friendly interface for someone not really computer-savvy. I can back up to my external hard drive as well as the cloud, both backups can be accessed readily. I can backup on demand or on a pre-selected schedule. I have not yet tried the restore function. I have not yet made a mirror image of my computer, but to back up all my personal data took about 3 hours. Incremental backups take a few minutes. So far I am happy and have recommended iDrive to two people in my life.
I got a great introductory offer and the software is more user friendly than the Acronis package I replaced it with.
Understandably, the first full backup took a long time. But the second was completed in just five minutes as only amended or new files were needed.
So far so good! I'm mostly using this for cloud storage so I can't really say anything about iDrives other services. I've run into no issues with cloud storage (though file uploads limited to 2GB each was kind of a bummer....). The interface is a little primitive, if you're used to using GDrive or Dropbox.
Overall though, can't beat the price for storage space.
I've only just begun using the system, but the amount of storage for the price is fantastic. The usability isn't quite as seamless as Dropbox, Google Drive or One Drive, but its perfectly usable and again, the value is incredible for the cost.
Being new to the concept of Cloud storage I called customer service with question. First ... there's someone easily available to contact! How great is that! And, a key point in my decision to sign up. Also, the answers were clear and concise. Having good customer service is a bid selling point for me. The actual interface is easy to work.
I wanted a quick and easy way to perform system wide and external drive backups and iDrive has enabled me to do both, the set up for cloud and local backups takes seconds to setup. Highly recommended.
So far so good. A week into it and it is backing up all my computer files and external hard drive files. Super easy download and setup. Great price! Hope to be using idrive backup for many years to come.
I'm relieved to find iDrive to have a reliable off-site backup storage for my business. The UI is easy to use and backups are simple to set up and start running.
I have just migrated to iDrive from previously using Backblaze. I am in a unique category that uses technology like commercial businesses but for personal, home uses. I have a TrueNAS fileserver. Although it has around 90 TB of storage being used, I only have about 1.5 TB of true personal data that I need to be backed up. All the computers in the house use to back up their data to this currently 1.5 TB share. I just want to have an offsite backup, in case my TrueNAS machine had a catastrophic failure of some form, so I don't lose important information. I had a VM that used RClone to back up this particular share to Backblaze. This was fine for awhile but all of a sudden, my bill skyrocketed to unreasonable prices. It may not be so unreasonable for a business but for a private individual, it was exorbitant; in excess of $100/month. I started to look for another provider. I created another VM and have been using it now for a few weeks, doing background backups in the middle of the night. I've been able to log in to Drive, scroll through, and see all my latest local updates have been automatically updated. The price is much more reasonable, albeit, I'm on an introductory price at the moment.
I've been an iDrive user for 4 years. It's served me well backing up my Mac, PC, USB hard drive and now my Synology NAS. My backup system comprises of the Synology NAS backing up my local computer and the iDrive backing up my NAS backup. As always easy to setup the app in the Synology server and it only took a few clicks to setup the folder I want backed up. A truly set and forget solution.
