I have been using iDrive for several years to backup our desktop and laptop PC. I have generally been quite happy with the product until now.
Seven weeks ago iDrive started failing during online backup of one particular 256MB file. After many interactions with support they referred it to their "backend team". There has been no progress and not a word. I ping them every week and get the same response.
I've had to resort to a local backup which I then copy to Google Drive. I will note that this is about 20X faster than IDrive online backup.
I have only begun using iDrive. I have used other backup systems which seemed confusing to me so that I was never sure I was doing it correctly. So far, I like iDrive because it has a user-friendly interface for someone not really computer-savvy. I can back up to my external hard drive as well as the cloud, both backups can be accessed readily. I can backup on demand or on a pre-selected schedule. I have not yet tried the restore function. I have not yet made a mirror image of my computer, but to back up all my personal data took about 3 hours. Incremental backups take a few minutes. So far I am happy and have recommended iDrive to two people in my life.
I got a great introductory offer and the software is more user friendly than the Acronis package I replaced it with.
Understandably, the first full backup took a long time. But the second was completed in just five minutes as only amended or new files were needed.
This is the backup platform I was looking for. I am able to backup both my macs and my phones without issues. I can log in easily online and view my files from any device. Definitely recommend using IDrive!
I have to say that I was between a 3 or 4-star review for IDrive. I will start by saying what I think is great, the offer beats all in the market and it is simple to use.
Now, the main drawback, and that is why I can't rate 4 or higher, are the upload speeds. I have to do a backup of an important hard drive with only 400Gb, and that is taking me about 10 days, 24/7 running (My home internet upload speeds are great, over 120MB/s).
If there is a way to upload faster and I don't know, I apologize and I will change my review from 3 to 4 or 5 stars depending on the speed itself.
Time Machine is simple and nice when it works, but when it doesn't, try to go figure out what went wrong. I needed something that was simple to operate and also worked well with my Synology server for off-site backup and iDrive has given me that experience and a more than reasonable price.

I’m really pleased with IDrive so far. I was worried about the need for ever larger external hard drives, the changing connections, the potential for disk failure and the increasing space that they were taking up. So I decided to look into online storage for my backup. I read up on several different services before settling on IDrive and so far it’s been great.
They offer a range of storage options and prices. I went for 10 TB, although I’m hoping that they will increase this to 15TB in the coming years.
I needed it for home use; to back up audiobooks, family movies and photos, as well a iTunes movies and music. All in all, this takes up too much space for a standard hard drive and they only have a life of so many years.
IDrive offers the option to initially transfer all your data onto a hard drive which they will upload for you. This is a great idea, however very expensive in terms of shipping if you live outside the US. I ran my back up for perhaps a week before I had to give up as it was taking too long and I needed to restart my computer to reboot other software. For me, this was a disappointing start, however I got around this by telling the IDrive software not to back up the folder on my external hard drive, and then slowly moving the files I needed to back out of the folder and doing a series of smaller back ups where I would have more control.
Although this was a little frustrating, the software that comes with IDrive is pretty easy to use and does a good job. I like how it backs up the changes to the files, similarly to iCloud, so that future backups don’t take as long.
It would be nice to see a Finder/Explorer style window in the future, so that you can drag and drop files, rather than always having to go through the backup process.
I would very happily recommend IDrive to anyone looking for a good high capacity online backup service. Despite the few minor flaws I’ve outlined, IDrive more than make up for it with the high capacity and ease of use.
I would like to see a monthly payment option though. As a personal user rather than a business, it’s a lot of money to pay out all at once and if anything were to be an issue for me in the future, it would probably be having to pay for the year up front.

I have had many companies in the past back up my data. However, iDRIVE gives me a feeling of security and experience. I STRONGLY recommend you at least give it a try.
It's a great experience. To be very honest, something very reasonable as well as secured. I had also been looking for good amount of storage. But unfortunately most of the services i came across were either too expensive or didn't offer big storage.
I drive is a revolution. I am tremendously satisfied now. It offered me 10 TB !!!! CAN U BLV IT ?????!??
It keeps the files even if they get deleted manually. Archiving at its best! Helped me retrieve a very important document. Thank you, IDrive!
Pro photographer who needed a lot of cloud backup, so I'm pleased with the size/cost available (started with 5T). Even uploaded all my phone photos and their iphone app works great. Wish it would check and upload new photos in the background without needing to remember to open the app, but I can work around that.
Full backup is still running, but it's large. Probably should have taken advantage of their free hard drive ship/return option, but I'm not in a hurry.
I had a bad experience with Dropbox and needed a service to auto backup my work files. I saw the amazing deal that iDrive had and figured I’d give it a shot. Is it a little slow backing up big files? Yes. Did it take a little to learn compared to dropbox? Sure. But I love it! For a few bucks my first year I have 10 TB of data to use! So much peace of mind
