Tech support failure

I have been using iDrive for several years to backup our desktop and laptop PC. I have generally been quite happy with the product until now. Seven weeks ago iDrive started failing during online backup of one particular 256MB file. After many interactions with support they referred it to their "backend team". There has been no progress and not a word. I ping them every week and get the same response. I've had to resort to a local backup which I then copy to Google Drive. I will note that this is about 20X faster than IDrive online backup.

So far I am happy with iDrive.

I have only begun using iDrive. I have used other backup systems which seemed confusing to me so that I was never sure I was doing it correctly. So far, I like iDrive because it has a user-friendly interface for someone not really computer-savvy. I can back up to my external hard drive as well as the cloud, both backups can be accessed readily. I can backup on demand or on a pre-selected schedule. I have not yet tried the restore function. I have not yet made a mirror image of my computer, but to back up all my personal data took about 3 hours. Incremental backups take a few minutes. So far I am happy and have recommended iDrive to two people in my life.

Great Introductory Offer & User Friendly…

I got a great introductory offer and the software is more user friendly than the Acronis package I replaced it with. Understandably, the first full backup took a long time. But the second was completed in just five minutes as only amended or new files were needed.

So Far, So Good!

Really too early to comment on this back-up system but, I am very impressed with the customer support. Friendly, knowledgeable tech support people and very short hold times. Have accessed some photo and video files and that went smoothly. So far, so good!

Not bad, but two serious problems

Not bad so far, but has two big problems. One is that it is very slow. I've been uploading 1TB of data for about four days now and it's still at 25%. The other is that its backup options for tablets are extremely limited. I have an iPad which I use to store files but iDrive cannot back those up because it only backs up videos, photos, contacts, and calendars from iOS. It will not back up just regular old stored files. This is a pretty big limitation.

Slow but steady wins the race?

I've had iDrive for a week now and my terabyte of files is still not fully uploaded. It took all this time for me to figure our when and how to backup. I have a main drive in my Mac of about 300Gb and three external data drives with about 700Gb of files. Wow, does it seem slow. Plus the two backup programs (main and external) interfered with each other until I devoted time to just one of them. Still learning. In hindsight their offer of sending me a drive that I could fill with my files and return for quicker upload sounds like a better way to have gone for me. Once I'm up to date it looks like this will run silently in the background with little to no attention from me.

Partially usable

The backup feature does work on the PC but is somewhat slow. On android, everything gets backed-up whether you want it or not. There seems to be no way to limit it. The Sync feature on the other hand is down right dangerous. On a couple of occasions it deleted the files on my PC and re downloaded the files from its service. Far worse was when I connected a new laptop and instead of downloading synced files it deleted the copy on my desktop. Fortunately, I had another copy. Unless there is substantial improvement I could not recommend it and I won't be renewing. UPDATE. iDrive offered me a full refund for leaving a review here. To their credit they did honor the promise even for the my above review.

iDrive is great

iDrive is great. I installed it on my macbook pro and it was easy to use and kept uploads happening even though I had about 4TB worth of data to upload. It kept things organized and did it in the background while I slept! The amount of space, speed, and price can't be beat.

First time using any backup service

First time using any backup service, so I can't compare to others. I am an average computer user, not an expert but not a novice. I have been backing things up on an external SSD drive. The download and set up was easy for a first time person, and backing up the files also easy. During back up, I wish there was an easier way to find the menu item that shows the drive and the progress as it is ongoing. I did find something like that, but had to peck around the menu. I have not tried to retrieve anything from the IDrive "cloud" yet, so I can't give that part a rating. But I did add some extra files from another drive, and it was easy to find the icons to click on to add other files and folders, and easy to click "back up now" or add to list for scheduled routine backup times (which gives you the option to set the frequency).

Happy I switched to iDrive

I've just switched to iDrive from another backup provider. My previous provider kept failing to backup because of an error, but didn't let me know until 60 days passed. With iDrive, it was a cheaper option for me, but has been very easy and efficient to set up. I have set my daily backup for a certain time of day that suits me. It backs up quickly and unobtrusively and gives me a discreet pop-up just to reassure me that it's done. So far I, really pleased I switched.

Easy to use and setup. Highly Recommended

This is one of the best and easiest back-up solutions there is to use. It is very easy to setup. When it comes to restoring files that were lost or corrupted, the process couldn't be any easier. I use it to back up several servers and my PC. I have my own business for over 20yrs and have used many different solutions over the years and iDrive is by far the easiest to use and setup.

IDrive worked well for me

The backup system is exactly what I was looking for. I am very happy with the plan (data allowance and computer count) and speed of the system. I had a bit of an issue getting the sync folder working correctly but in the end thats not why I chose IDrive.
