Tech support failure

I have been using iDrive for several years to backup our desktop and laptop PC. I have generally been quite happy with the product until now. Seven weeks ago iDrive started failing during online backup of one particular 256MB file. After many interactions with support they referred it to their "backend team". There has been no progress and not a word. I ping them every week and get the same response. I've had to resort to a local backup which I then copy to Google Drive. I will note that this is about 20X faster than IDrive online backup.

So far I am happy with iDrive.

I have only begun using iDrive. I have used other backup systems which seemed confusing to me so that I was never sure I was doing it correctly. So far, I like iDrive because it has a user-friendly interface for someone not really computer-savvy. I can back up to my external hard drive as well as the cloud, both backups can be accessed readily. I can backup on demand or on a pre-selected schedule. I have not yet tried the restore function. I have not yet made a mirror image of my computer, but to back up all my personal data took about 3 hours. Incremental backups take a few minutes. So far I am happy and have recommended iDrive to two people in my life.

Great Introductory Offer & User Friendly…

I got a great introductory offer and the software is more user friendly than the Acronis package I replaced it with. Understandably, the first full backup took a long time. But the second was completed in just five minutes as only amended or new files were needed.

Recently Switched And Loving The Time Gained Back

I switched to IDrive a few weeks ago after experiencing a service disruption and document loss with another cloud storage provider. I am glad I made the switch; it is a superior product. The interface is intuitive, more robust, and easier to use than any other service I have tried. Transferring content is a cinch, and I especially like the ability to set a user-defined key. IDrive is well worth the money. Set up was a breeze, and knowing my data is regularly backed up puts my mind at ease. IDrive has freed me to focus on work rather than constantly having to back up my files manually.

Having received several warnings about…What You Don't Know Can Hurt You!

Having received several warnings about the need for me to back up my laptop....I woke up! I didn't really understand why I needed to do this but upon research, primarily Kim Komando, I learned why! She recommended idrive. The process was simple, even for someone like me who has limited computer experience and knowledge. I have been very pleased with idrive and I worry about my saved material....I know it will always be there!

Flawless Real-Time Syncing. Generous Space. Genuine Pricing!

I recently purchased their 10TB Yearly Plan to transfer the huge collection of my CG repository. Was skeptical in the beginning though. But when I learned using idrive, the backup started smoothly. Transferred over 300GB of data overnight. I will eventually use 10TB to its last bit. However, when it comes to the retrieval of huge set of data, the process becomes time consuming and may fail to meet your recovery timelines. So, as a piece of advice, if you are planning to use idrive, just close your eyes and hit the buy button. However, if you do not plan to renew your subscription, do not forget to start recovering your data at least two months before the expiration of your renewal..

Excellent service ... outstanding value ... a few shortcomings

Switched from Backblaze to IDrive because I purchased a Synology NAS to replace my Drobo (DAS) after learning that Drobo is going out of business. I was satisfied with Backblaze, but I learned that to add a NAS backup almost quadrupled the annual cost. IDrive's offering was much more attractive and has an app within the Synology "Package Center" which purportedly makes it easy to backup. What I quickly learned is that said IDrive app isn't compatible with the newest version of the Synology "DMS" (yet) and that the patch they offered didn't work -- which meant I needed a workaround to connect it. The support team at IDrive was awesome -- spending a good amount of time to remotely connect and determine how to make it work -- which now it does. Coming from the relatively simple setup of Backblaze this whole episode was a bit more complicated, but I think in the end it will all be worth it. I now have my desktop computer, NAS and iPhone all being backed up in one place -- which is great. I was a bit annoyed that, when I learned that I needed their plan that connects 2 computers vs. 1, it meant I had to upgrade my plan (which isn't all that much more money), but had to forego the promotional price I had taken advantage of -- unless I wanted to delete the backup I had already started and create a whole new account. That wasn't an option! Another thing I appreciate is that they sent me "free of charge" a hard drive by mail so I could upload my 5TBs of files and send it back them -- thus sidestepping what would probably take a month or more to upload over the cloud. Only minor complaint is that once you start what they call their "Express Backup" you can't interrupt it, lest you have to start over again. Since, it too, takes quite a while to upload (10 days by latest count), it's nerve-racking that if my computer goes to sleep or the power gets disconnected that everything that was uploaded to that point will be for naught. Lastly, I'll say that the IDrive app on my desktop is pretty good, as is their Synology app. So to summarize: great value, excellent service, a bit bumpy in the setup. Solid choice.

Easy and quick for initial set up

Easy and quick for initial set up. Great price for personal data backup. However, upload is a bit slow and there's no way for me to pause uploading when I need. Overall, great choice for personal data backup.

It's been about 10 days now, and I like it a lot

It's been about 10 days since installing and it has been working perfectly so my experience has been excellent. 10 TB is a whole lot of space, much more that I imagined, so I'm nowhere close to filling it. I switched from Norton because the special price was too good to pass up and the regular 1-year price will still I think a good deal. The interface is self-explanatory for anyone with a bit of experience with Windows file management and some understanding of the Windows file system structure. I won't say it's idiot proof but it's close. The first backup was a slow, taking about 12 hours for 81,000 files with 190 GB but the scheduled daily incremental backups run very quickly (I change only a dozen or so files each day however). Sometime this week I'll backup my 2nd computer with about the same amount of data and will still not be even close to 10 TB so I'll maybe clone my entire computer too. In a few weeks I'll do a test restore and I'll be Very surprised if there are problems. I'll certainly post here if there are. All in all, I'm very pleased with iDrive Online Backup and recommend it.

Software installed easily and backed up…

Software installed easily and backed up my computer as I expected. Mobile app seems to work well, but perhaps better to review photos via IDrive Photos than IDrive Online, which is better for pulling up documents.

Works Well, Easy Interface, Good Controls

The app worked as advertised in that the interface was straight forward and frankly easier to use than some others I've tried over the years. The controls provided for throttling are important if you don't have fast upload/download speeds and those controls are not available on most other apps. The initial upload took time (because of my slow upload speed of 5MB/s however once that was done, the app is pretty seamless. So I understand and support Kim Komando's recommendation to use the app.
