IDrive Online Backup

Excellent service ... outstanding value ... a few shortcomings
Switched from Backblaze to IDrive because I purchased a Synology NAS to replace my Drobo (DAS) after learning that Drobo is going out of business. I was satisfied with Backblaze, but I learned that to add a NAS backup almost quadrupled the annual cost. IDrive's offering was much more attractive and has an app within the Synology "Package Center" which purportedly makes it easy to backup. What I quickly learned is that said IDrive app isn't compatible with the newest version of the Synology "DMS" (yet) and that the patch they offered didn't work -- which meant I needed a workaround to connect it. The support team at IDrive was awesome -- spending a good amount of time to remotely connect and determine how to make it work -- which now it does. Coming from the relatively simple setup of Backblaze this whole episode was a bit more complicated, but I think in the end it will all be worth it. I now have my desktop computer, NAS and iPhone all being backed up in one place -- which is great. I was a bit annoyed that, when I learned that I needed their plan that connects 2 computers vs. 1, it meant I had to upgrade my plan (which isn't all that much more money), but had to forego the promotional price I had taken advantage of -- unless I wanted to delete the backup I had already started and create a whole new account. That wasn't an option! Another thing I appreciate is that they sent me "free of charge" a hard drive by mail so I could upload my 5TBs of files and send it back them -- thus sidestepping what would probably take a month or more to upload over the cloud. Only minor complaint is that once you start what they call their "Express Backup" you can't interrupt it, lest you have to start over again. Since, it too, takes quite a while to upload (10 days by latest count), it's nerve-racking that if my computer goes to sleep or the power gets disconnected that everything that was uploaded to that point will be for naught. Lastly, I'll say that the IDrive app on my desktop is pretty good, as is their Synology app. So to summarize: great value, excellent service, a bit bumpy in the setup. Solid choice.
