Tech support failure

I have been using iDrive for several years to backup our desktop and laptop PC. I have generally been quite happy with the product until now. Seven weeks ago iDrive started failing during online backup of one particular 256MB file. After many interactions with support they referred it to their "backend team". There has been no progress and not a word. I ping them every week and get the same response. I've had to resort to a local backup which I then copy to Google Drive. I will note that this is about 20X faster than IDrive online backup.

So far I am happy with iDrive.

I have only begun using iDrive. I have used other backup systems which seemed confusing to me so that I was never sure I was doing it correctly. So far, I like iDrive because it has a user-friendly interface for someone not really computer-savvy. I can back up to my external hard drive as well as the cloud, both backups can be accessed readily. I can backup on demand or on a pre-selected schedule. I have not yet tried the restore function. I have not yet made a mirror image of my computer, but to back up all my personal data took about 3 hours. Incremental backups take a few minutes. So far I am happy and have recommended iDrive to two people in my life.

Great Introductory Offer & User Friendly…

I got a great introductory offer and the software is more user friendly than the Acronis package I replaced it with. Understandably, the first full backup took a long time. But the second was completed in just five minutes as only amended or new files were needed.

Great value, upload speed and interface

iDrive is one of the few providers out there that offer affordable plans for more than a few terabytes of data. The backup speed is excellent (granted you have a good upload speed). The interface is easy and it's nice to be able to manage settings such as scheduling when backups occur and throttling the bandwidth being used. Would recommend iDrive even for those who don't require terabytes worth of storage space. Customer service is also extremely friendly and helpful too.

A true cloud based "external drive"

I am a more advanced user being an engineer by trade, but I think you'll find this a valuable and detailed review of idrive.com. If you are looking for a true "external drive" type service. Not something that aims to sync your files across various devices, though idrive has that too, then idrive is your solution. I wanted to backup 8 computers. A mix of Windows PCs, home servers, Synology diskstations, and Macbooks. Only idrive had client apps for all of these platforms, as well as Linux. The home server had about 5TB (yes that's tera-bytes) of family photos and videos on it. This one took the longest. You need to understand that many internet service providers (ISPs) give you low upload bandwidth. In my case I have cable, 300Mbps down, but only 20Mbps up. That's 20 megaBITS per second. So 5TB will take about 23 DAYS to backup. Yes days. There is an iDrive Express option, where you can use a physical external drive as well though. Overall; the platform app coverage, the flexibility in how to treat my cloud backups, the ability to purchase a 10TB "drive" but use it to privately backup 8 different platforms, and reasonable annual cost, made iDrive a perfect fit for my needs. Give it a try, I think you'll find this is exactly what you're looking for if you want a "cloud drive".

Initial impression of iDrive on Win, Mac, iOS, iPadOS

Installed iDrive on iPhone, iPad, MacOS Ventura, and Win 11. On Win 11 I did a full image backup and a ‘selected set of files’ backup. Initial impression was that it was easy to install and use, and worked in accordance to instructions. The full image backup pegged my fully allocated ISP upload speed. MacOS file backups worked as expected. I liked the fact that you can see your contacts easily from the iphone backups without having to restore. I synch OneDrive files on one machine and Google drive on the other and let iDrive perform a backup of those files automatically. Good value for the money.

One of the best Cloud Storage

I have used several cloud storage service and iDrive is better than most of them. I have been using iDrive for quite a while and the best feature for me is automated backups of my Linux Server. In terms of cost, their service is unbeatable.

Dwynermans Review

My stress and anxiety level is now gone knowing my entire computer gets backed up and files stored on my scheduled days. Your directions were easy to follow and simple to understand. Great job, keep up the exceptional service.

So far so good!

So far so good! I have been using IDrive for about 1 week and I really like the speed, and how it's laid out compared to other backup solutions. I come from an IT background and I currently work in IT which means you can hopefully trust my feedback. If you are searching for a solution, I would give IDrive a try, I did and love it.

Backup stall and other issues

Several issues were encountered during the setup of iDrive. Currently running on Windows 10. 1. The initial upload obviously takes a long time, even for my 800GB drive. The time remaining counter does not take into account the rollover of days. Or perhaps the estimate of time is so totally wrong. 2. Had several instances where the initial backup totally froze for 10-20 hours displaying the same file being uploaded. CPU usage for iDrive was continuously 75% or more. Tried stopping and restarting without success. Rebooting didn't help. Erased all iDrive files via the web and restarted the backup and the same thing happens. Reinstalled iDrive and the same thing happened but was finally able to stop and restart past the errors and complete a backup. It doesn't stop at the same place each time. A subsequent backup was finally completed without stalling, so hope the problem does not come back. A timeout feature is needed to help get past this type of issue. 3. I have both windows local user and administrator accounts on my computer. Running from the local account let me set up a backup of some files located in the administrator account, but it ran into permission issues during the backup. Starting iDrive under the local account in administrator mode may have helped, but can't remember. I will now just run it while logged into the administrator account. 4. Had a friend at another location do a new install on his computer. During the installation process, he skipped past the point of saving the recovery code. Tried chatting with customer support to see how to get the code, but the support person did not even know what the recovery code was. Even asked how to start the installation over to get the code, but he did not know enough about your product. My friend was going to call support, but don't know the outcome. 5. Haven't tried clone/computer backup to a local drive yet, but after reading the specs for this mode I don't think it has the ability to recover individual files on a time basis. Could be wrong on this issue. Haven't used iDrive enough at this point to determine if the above issues happen again. If so, I will not use the product. 1/4/23 Update Continue to have issues with iDrive. Finally got a full backup, but don't trust it. My objective is to run iDrive manually about once a week rather than have continuous operation. Some issues are: 1. The backup log often indicates that some backups files/folders could not be done but it doesn't identify either the files/folders involved or a reason. 2. Manually initiating a backup resulted in missing some files that should be backed. It does go through the process of creating a file list, but apparently doesn't really check for new/old files. 3. Forced it to find other files that needed backup by making just one simple change to the backup selections. For example, to set one file currently in the selection list not to be backed up. It then does a total rescan of files that takes a very long time. But it did find the missing files to be backed up. 4. As mentioned before, the "Estimated Time Left" counter is unreliable. So at least for now, I have decided not to use iDrive.

Simple and easy to use

It is easy to choose folders to be backed up. Back up can be scheduled and also can be done on demand. The only thing is I do not get to see clearly which files have been backed up under which folders and which files have failed to be backed up. If I could see the backed up files like in Windows Explorer, that would be perfect. I have not had to restore the backed up files.

My local backup USB drive suddenly…

My local backup USB drive suddenly stopped working. I researched iDrive before and decided to make the change. Within a few minutes I had the software downloaded and selected the files and folders to backup. The backup proceeded flawlessly and I remembered thinking "Is that it? Why did I not do this earlier?" Easy!
