2nd year tutor has been incredible

Sandra our tutor for year 2 has been so supportive and helpful and brings passion and knowledge in abundance. She shares so much and her feedback is thorough and thoughtful and so helpful. She's been amazing and I'm excited to continue the second half of the year and progress onto year three. Thank you so much to the staff behind the scenes and placements team too for always being ready to answer queries and help where they can.

Great experience …

I have found crystals to be great training Especially silly with Melanie Phelps, great teacher

Chrysalis/tutor

I have been with chrysalis for 2.5 yrs, my 1st year was enjoyable, with a great tutor, my 2nd year not so much, however, on year 3 1st session in January, my current tutor gave me structure, with slideshows & video clips to explain in more depth and giving examples of the different topics, I have thoroughly enjoyed my first 5 modules as I am a visual learner, the guidance given is great by Sarah Jones and she is a real fit for our group, I am looking forward to the rest of my final year with Chrysalis

Great experience!

I have had a great experience training with Chrysalis. The pluralistic content of the course has been very interesting and I believe has put me in good stead for my future as a counsellor. Most beneficial to my experience though is my tutor, Martina. Martina is incredibly knowledgeable, always puts us at ease, fills us with confidence and gives valuable feedback.

Waste of money and paper

Sign up for a real BACP accredited course and do it properly. You’ll get laughed at when you tell people you trained with this lot.

A rocky start

Despite a rocky start, the admin team solved the problem and my I continued with Chrysalis courses. The structure of the course is perfect for my needs. Although, at first the quality of the lecturer could be better but things improved and I enjoyed studying with Chrysalis courses. The admin team are professionals and always aim to help. Thank you

Tania and the South team are beyond EPIC

Tania and the South team are beyond EPIC - they go the extra mile and everything they do so clearly matters to them because WE matter to them as students. It is rare to come across such a great service, and not just once, but again and again. I am so appreciative of all the support they have always offered, nothing is too small or too large to deal with. They are spectacular!

Illegal contracts and horrible support…

I signed up for a counselling course with Chrysalis and paid a £480 deposit. The next day, we found out that my husband’s job was at risk and I immediately withdrew from the programme. After emailing Chrysalis for a response for over a month, they came back to say that they would be keeping my deposit. Legally, I am entitled to a 14 day cooling off period, but Chrysalis refuses to acknowledge this. I’ve had to put in a formal complaint with the support of Citizen’s Advice as their contracts are in violation of Consumer Contracts regulations. This company is ripping people off and their service to students is horrible. If you’re looking at doing a course, choose a reputable company that knows what they are doing!

Total waste of money and 6 months of my life …

I initially contacted Chrysalis to look into continuing my counselling training. I completed a level 2 certification at Halesowen college in 2019, my objective was to become a qualified counsellor, I’ve ended up wasting 6 months of my time studying hypnotherapy. I feel that I was sold the concept and benefit of doing this as it was advertised as the ‘recommended’ course, being the most cost affective way of getting to my end goal. They have used this as a carrot to entice students to do the hypnotherapy content. Why? Why not do a level 3 in counselling? I’ve asked the question but I’m still not satisfied with the answer they gave me. I pulled out a month of ago and have been left over £1400 out of pocket with nothing to show for it other than a very basic knowledge of a skill I will never use. It beggars belief that they are expecting people to learn a skill with the underpinning principle being belief and conviction when they don’t understand why they are there in the first place, how can that be believable?! The course content is delivered in an illogical way, I’m a practicing holistic therapist so I have a working knowledge of consultation processes, it does not flow well at all. There is little very little content on counselling, I don’t think this attempted blend works as it should be treated as two separate subjects. I’d be interested to know how many of my fellow students complete this course, many of whom have no knowledge of counselling or therapeutic work and are quite frankly lambs to the slaughter. I have contacted the National Hypnotherapy Association, asking them to investigate why a company is coercing students to study a practice they have no interest in as I’m sure this won’t do much for the credibility of the profession. They have refunded my membership fee, which says a lot to me! I have asked for my course fee money back. I’ll be patient.

How are they still going

I will start with the negatives. The first two to three hours in class is spent forced to talk about our week from work to our personal lives which is a waste of our precious time. Our marking guidelines changed during the second year an our tutor wasn't informed so not only was our work marked as a fail, but we had to forward it to head office to get it marked correctly. In our second lesson we found out that a class mate got an £1200 discount due to the university struggling to meet the number needed for target. We were all given the option to pay in full or pay over two years with interest with no discount. There is no support for helping you find a placement and unlike the bacp at Newman's uni there is no access to a library. It will like me and my classmates take you at least six months to a year after passing to obtain your certificates due to there system they can take your money but posting your certificate is something else. You learn different techniques but rarely practice them in class. There was a student who had only completed three out of twelve assignments for the first year but was still allowed to proceed to the second year and not only join but interrupt our class. The good points are that its cheaper than the bacp courses. Would i recommend this course hell no.

6 month review

I am only 6 months in to a 3 year qualification. I don’t have a rounded view yet. Our teacher Honey is very helpful if we have questions and the content of modules is good. I would say that some of the assignments and tasks are strangely numbered and ordered and it’s very easy to get muddled. I also wish I could have chosen a different counselling topic to hypnotherapy. I am largely disinterested in it as I want to be a counsellor and do not feel that they particularly compliment each other. In all honesty I am really just getting through this first year so that I can do the second two.
