Sakura Mobile is very easy to set up via eSIM which is what I went for.
We travelled a fair amount in Japan and I had good coverage everywhere we went.
The price was fair (equivalent to about £25 per week for unlimited use).
I wasn’t sure how to set up the eSIM at first so I emailed Sakura Mobile help center. They replied within an hour and walked me through the IOS recommended settings.
10/10.

All the processes was easy eve that i had an issue with the data not working because I did something wrong in the process, i contacted them through email and they were super fast and helpful and helped me to fix the issue, thanks for the amazing team and i highly recommend it

Great experience with Sakura. Reasonable price, great customer service...worked great in all locations on Honshu. Occasionally it throttled a bit when we exceeded max daily data but released the following day. Highly recommmend Sakura Mobile.
As a disabled person who became mentally and physically incapacitated, i had trouble paying, which snowballed into a lot of other issues. The team has been incredibly kind and patient with me. I am very thankful.
Like … 1) cheaper than SIM cards 2) Able to connect more than one phone. We actually had three phones. We used the spare phone in the rented car using google maps as the vehicles either had no navigator or if there was a navigator it was in Japanese. 3) easily carried once I made a lanyard.
Dislikes … 1) once one phone moves away it disconnects and unable to contact the other person. 2) kept on dropping off and service was unreliable.
Apart from all that, it was ok but next time we will opt for SIM cards
Very easy application with english support. Been using for 4~5 years and never had any problems. For foreings residing in Japan or traveling, it is highly recommended.
I got my SIM card at Kansai Airport (KIX), the staff was really kind, they can speak English.
A reminder is that the online registered SIM has no phone number, only has data for internet access. If you want to get a SIM with a phone number, you have to buy it in-person at the airport. I need a phone number for work, but if you are tourists, a SIM with just data is enough, go buy it online beforehand.
I bought the wrong SIM but luckily got fully refunded.

The connection has always been excellent, and the price was ok. This is a must have when you visit Japan, as Google Maps has stellar support for the public transportation system in Tokyo, which is complex and scary for foreigners, but without a good data plan like this you are going to spend a lot of money because of roaming.
It is not easy to get good customer service in English in Japan. In general, their customer service is great, but the language barrier definitely exists. However, my experience with Sakura Mobile was excellent. I don't usually write reviews but in this case, I have to praise Sakura Mobile agent Carmen for her quick response, detailed explanations, and for fixing my mistakes.
Perfect simple service.
Collect at the Airport and simply drop in a post box when you leave. There is even a post box in the departure hall at HND.
The Sakura devise is small, fits in your pocket or bag and provides fast wi-fi to more than one phone.
Charge overnight and away you go.
Much better than messing around with a SIM and far cheaper too.
