Car itself was ok for the low price but customer service was the worst I've ever experienced with a car rental company in NZ (and I've been with many). Since the company is not located directly in the terminal but a few km offsite, the company offers a shuttle bus to the station - so far so good. We had reserved our car for 12 o'clock (noon). When we called after our bag claim at 12 to arrange the pick up service, the lady just said 'Oh' and that no one would be available right now to pick us up but they would come asap. After 45 mins of waiting in the icy wind outside the terminal, we called again. This time the lady said they would come in 10 mins. After another 20 mins someone finally showed up. When we actually picked up the car, no one wanted to see our passports or international driving licences. Although we had booked with a full/full policy, the car was definitely not full since the gas display was already one bar down after only 20 km or so. When we returned the car and told the owner about the missing gas, he simply said that they are not checking the petrol when cars are returned because they are a small company and measuring devices are expensive. While that may be true, it's still no excuse to cheat on your customers! If you're not checking the fuel, then don't put a full/full policy in your contracts! He even suggested that maybe I had not returned it full either and that he wouldn't be able to check that. He offered me a 5$ compensation for my trouble.

Office a bit dated/grubby, not a good look for just arrived tourists

The car was not proper checked. Steering column was rattling and there was something wrong with the camper and alignment off all four wheels - It was however no problem for us to have it fixed. Good service. Regarding the Nissan Tida: The car is underpowered for the hills on the North Island.

I highly recommend this rental car agency to anyone in the Auckland area. Not only because of the cheapest rates I could find here, and when I say cheap, I mean half the price it would have cost somewhere else, but also for the staff that’s been very nice and helpful every single time I had to deal with them. Every time I rented a car from them, the process is always been easy, smooth and professional. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

The Guys and Girls at Mint Auckland depot went out of there way to accommodate us over a difficult period and when they were also under the pump to supply cars, The cars were better than I had imagined after reading some web reviews on cheap car rental in NZ, I would certainly be happy to recommend them . If your daily driver at home is always less than a couple of years old then you may want to pay a lot more somewhere else and then be disappointed. Anyone looking for cheap reliable transport in NZ go to Mint
