Neat tidy reliable Toyota Tarago van for a great price even though it had was an old model and had 425,000km on the clock it was perfect for two people and got us everywhere we wanted to go
The camper van had many deficiencies with broken items (18) and was extremely dirty upon pickup. The issues were addressed with head office and a rebate was given. The campervan was mechanically reliable with new tires and we had no issues mechanically.
4 hour waiting before we got our van. Dirty van. No gas tank even though included in price. Broken wiskers. Would never recommend or book again.
Great service , friendly team, Assisted with drop offs and pick ups. Made holidaying enjoyable
Had a great experience renting from lucky rentals. Great communication and a great price. Everything was super smooth picking up the van and dropping it off. They organised the ferry crossing for us which was very helpful. No better value in New Zealand than Lucky Rentals!
- choose the cheapest option - The insurance option is a bit confusing using when using 3rd party website for the booking. - easy to operate the car, petrol consuming, heater is not working, comfy bed.
Lucky rentals is the best! You can’t beat the price and it had everything we needed! The check in was pretty easy and everything went smooth during our trip, I even slept super well on the bed. Will rent from them again for sure!
The vehicle was old and showing its age. While it did get us around the South Island without any mechanical issues, the inside of the van was atrocious. We were surprised that anyone would rent it out in that condition. The upholstery looked like someone had vomited on it, the ceiling (which was carpeted?!) also looked like it had been vomited on, the upper bunk smelled like fish, the curtain tie backs were broken, the side windows didn't lock. It's time to retire this vehicle.
Everything with Lucky Rentals was good for us, starting with a really good rental price for our camper-van. Lucky's depot was easy to get to via public transport, check in was a simple process followed by a walk through of the van features with a staff member. The van itself although an older model ran perfectly throughout our trip and was very comfortable to drive and sleep in. When we returned the van Lucky also took us to the airport at no extra cost. Lucky Rentals is a company I would recommend to anyone visiting New Zealand that wants to rent a camper van.
The camper was dirty, very old and navigator was also very old
The worst van ever
Very good value for a 15 day rent. Although there are mishaps from the van, the staff are really helpful. I just hope they are open 24/7 due to ETA of planes.
Total rip off. Didn't get the vehicle as pictured in the advertisement. Then because you go through a third party. The final payment isn't the final payment. You're paying a lot more when in the office. Vehicle was dirty, like it hadn't been cleaned after last user.
What wasn't up to scratch was the rental wasn't suplied with only one plate bugger all knives forks bowls exc. The van wasn't clean and the interior was old and grotty the van ( lucky rambler) was eating more oil than petrol and very poor instructions to get to rentals at the airport (Auckland) we did not know we're it was was very frustrating
Old vans, a bit tatty, very tired. sink wouldn’t empty for hours so had to bail it out before driving. Brakes failing and smoking downhills, really bad brake fade. Not interested when phoned.
We hired a fairly basic camper van in 2014 from Lucky rentals and decided to up grade to a larger van for our trip in Nov/Dec 2022. The problems started on the 2nd day when the ignition key repeatedly refused to turn in the mechanism. We discovered that the key was very worn and almost broken in two with a hairline crack at the mid point. On the 3rd day the key refused to come out of the mechanism. We had to track down a specialist auto key cutting service which meant a 160 miles detour right across the north island in the opposite direction that we had been traveling. This was very stressful 5 hour drive to get to a suitable locksmith - when he saw the condition of the key he was shocked and said "This is the worst key I have seen in 20 years of lock-smithing." Later on in our 5 week hire we discovered that the roof of the van leaked when it rained. The toilet/ shower had rainwater dripping off of the ceiling and it eventually made a large puddle on the floor. One of the fold up chairs was also very old and worn to the point that it broke the second time I sat in it. When we left the van back in Christchurch the staff simply said "oh well these things happen". They refunded the money we had spent in replacing the key and the chair but offered NO compensation for the aggravation involved or for fuel/lost time. We had a flight to catch so we were just pleased to drop the van off and go. Also just to add there were some large gaps around the "bumper" area of the front section of the camper van - I discovered the whole thing was held in place with about 10 cable ties...............that is just lazy maintenance.
Delayed pick up from Airport. Extremely run-down car with mold stains. A harsh Manager with Little respect for customers. I could go on but would advise anyone to choose another company.
The worst rental van company I have ever used. The van was in bad condition, moldy and extremely overpriced.
