Stock standard toyota needed a replacement battery (was about 5 years old so was just time for a new one). Initial call out and fitting of a battery cost $480, which was more than their website suggested, though I thought stuff it, lets just get it done. Went to turn it on later that afternoon and it wouldn't start. Called the tech who came out the next day and said it was an unrelated oil/servicing issue, and quoted $680 to fix this new issue. I'd never had starting issues prior to the battery. I declined the work, but still had to pay the call out fee of $89. They cleaned the battery terminals and it started up, though sounded a bit rough. Once they left, I noticed that they had not clasped the air filter back on properly (no idea why that would have to be undone, or why it was not closed). Once the filter was connected, it sounded much better upon starting. I then took it to a proper mechanic who looked at the work - the wrong battery for my style of car was fitted, and the tech had used bolts to infill the terminal gaps to make the connection (once this was pointed out it was easy to see, but for someone with a basic knowledge of cars, it wasn't readily apparent). They said they'd never seen such dodgy work and thought I'd fitted it myself - they couldn't believe a tech had done this work. They didn't fix the issue so Lube Mobile could rectify, but noted it in the service notes. I complained via the Lube Mobile number, and the base manager sent out a different tech to fix the issue. They took photos and agreed, and got a different style battery that suited the car and replaced. One the plus side, they refunded the second service fee and did replace the wrong battery for the right one, however, I shouldn't have to pay $280 for a different mechanic to tell me the work was poor. Never got a follow up/apology from the manager after the issue was rectified, even though the battery was installed incorrectly and I was out of pocket.
Long story short - dodgy work from the tech, had to pay for a different mechanic to troubleshoot the issues before it was fixed. Felt like extortion, where they know once they're at your house, they'll try to get you to agree to anything. Would never use again.
