    EUROPCAR poor service

Ordered car hire online through Expedia pre paid collection from EUROPCAR. When my wife collected they asked her to pay for insurance protection which we already had. After the agreement had finished EUROPCAR car had taken out the full car hire cost so we basically paid twice.

    Waste of time. AVOID

Made me upload all documents and then on rental day asked for them all again at the office. I was then told sorry you cant hire a car as computer says no. I am not buying the car just hiring it. Why they need a credit check is beyond me i had the money in the bank and on credit card but they refused said to email them and dispute it. Had to hire elsewhere last minute £150 more thanks a lot. Will never recommend these to anyone

    Check your mileage on return

Just hired a van for 24hrs from the Southampton branch. On collecting the vehicle it was filthy dirty inside and out for which the staff member apologised,, explaining they were short staffed. Just received my final invoice to see I have been charged an additional £114 on top of the original £66 hire, for apparently an additional 559 miles above the 250 allowance. I covered a total of 108 miles in the 24hr hire, so not sure where they have recorded 809 miles from ? Just spoken to their customer service advisor and they will investigate this over the next 3-5 working days, including vehicle tracking information which will clearly show their mistake. In the meantime they get to hold onto my money !! CHECK YOUR VEHICLE CAREFULLY BEFORE YOUR HIRE AND BACK IN AGAIN.

There were warning lights on in the van, low oil, exhaust. Also while driving had a warning that Ad Blue will run out in 170 miles, it was less than 20 miles left on return. I needed to clean the inside of the windscreen as I couldn't see much when the sun was in front of me. The outside of the van was dirty as well

A deceptive sales technique cost me hundreds of pounds

The staff behind the counter managed to convince me that the insurance I had pre-purchased was not adequate and that for an additional £21 I would be sufficiently covered. needless to say that he neglected to inform me that the £21 did not include tax, and was a daily rate. I realized this once the purchase had already gone through, I tried to cancel it but they weren't interested in helping me after I had handed over my money. My complaint was ignored for two weeks before they sent me a canned response that the signature on the document was binding and this eliminated the possibility of a refund. I am now in the process of filing a complaint with an external regulatory body over their dishonest sales techniques. I ended up paying for unnecessary insurance that cost more than 150% of the car rental itself. No one would agree to this. Please be careful of this company's deceptive sales techniques, don't let them convince you that you need to give them more than you already have. Don't sign anything unless you're certain you understand what they are telling you. And be aware that you will likely not receive help from this company once they have received your money. UPDATE following the below response - Europcar has flatly denied my request for an investigation or a refund, requiring me to escalate the issue to a third party. I will never use this company again.

I have booked a car Reservation number: 1182274307

I have booked a car, Reservation number: 1182274307 from 15 to 22 November 2024 through the website. On my arrival at Stansted, at the Europcar counter, the clerk, John, deceived me when he proposed an UPGRADE because the car as ordered was not available and suggested an upgrade to a Mercedes which I firmly refused then he strongly recommended to take a Toyota Hybrid with only a small contribution of only £30 in addition to my payment that I already made. Having no other choice, I accepted an extra total charge of £30. He rushed me to sign the so called standard form and directed me to take the car as there was another client behind me. A few day later I received the mail with a very unfortunate surprise, I was charged £30 + Vat for an extra total of £299,88. That added to my paid booking for a Citroen C3 Aircross makes a total of 463,49 (this makes the daily rate £66,21)!! This is a scam. Please note that a Mercedes from Europcar starts around 34/35£ a day. I wonder what car costs around £66 /day!!! This is scam and the company refused to review the complaint. I strongly suggest to avoid accepting any upgrade from this company as they will in some way they will trick or deceive you. Never again Europcar. And it is pointless to contact your customer service, as I did immediately after two days of rent and again twice after I returned the vehicle. Always the same reply which obviously invites me to contact and recontact the “useless” customer service.

    #1 in misleading customers

#1 in misleading customers, upgraded specifically to an engine driven hybrid, was given a plug-in with ZERO Charge !! Was worse than a regular petrol car. It had continuous faults, system errors, upon return the tech said, they all do it, it’s a badly designed car (MG). Opted for fuel option, i was told i would get a refund upon return for remaining, apparently this is only for full tank. At the front desk they were rude, I called customer service, after two weeks the declined to refund any nominal amount. So i will never, ever rent again from EuropCar, wish I had checked TrustPilot 1st before renting i can see why 47% give a 1 star rating. Be aware. Europcar reach out, but all their link does is make me start over the whole process - if you are Interested Europcar check the CS 21717807

Terrible service and misleading practices at Europcar

When picking up my rental car, I was repeatedly pressured to accept additional options, even though I was already fully insured through Sunny Cars, their partner company. Despite my clear refusal, I was still charged an additional €437.80 for an unnecessary extra insurance = one extra car. Customer service (which did respond in a timely manner, so that was great) refuses to take responsibility and shows no sign of improving this process among its staff. This is outright deception and damages trust in Europcar. Sorry but not recommended!

Do not accept an agent telling you to email in any scratches/marks that you notice. Insist on the agent being present and that all marks/scratches are written on the contract sheet.

I hired a car from 31/10-04/11/2024. Pick up was smooth but I should have insisted the agent noted the marks & scrapes on the car. There was 3 listed on the form and I was told to check the car before leaving. I did and I advised agent that there were more marks on the car. He told me to email them in, he did not come out and sign them off. I emailed the marks/crapes in together with photos. On my return the agent checked the car and then told me that there was a fresh scrape on the alloy. I had to go down on my hands and knees to see it. I advised him that I did not do this. As the shuttle bus was waiting for me I left immediately, Within an hour 189.99€ + 18.88€ was charged to my card. I asked for the science behind the comment 'it looks fresh". I can only describe it as an appalling customer service. I felt I was scammed/ set up by Europcar.

Incident during rental not resolved after 2 months

I had an incident during my rental and reported the incident straight away. On returning the vehicle they said they would send me an invoice for the damage/excess. I had 3rd party insurance so just have the standard excess of 1600GBP with Europcar. I have been waiting over 2 months for the invoice and have emailed and called many times and been told that they are still investigating the incident and that they will let us know. With a deadline for claiming with the 3rd party insurance, they are causing unnecessary stress and complication for a straightforward incident.

    Avoid this cowboy outfit

Unbelievably poor service from Europcar. I hired a car from monday 25th November until 1pm on 30th November. The Warrington branch I had used previously on visiting the uk was always very good. However, on Saturday I returned the car an hour earlier than booked. Nobody was present to receive the car. The drop off box was sealed. After contacting europcar more than 8 times, I was literally pushed from pillar to post. I was told to leave the keys inan unlocked car, but told I'd be liable for any theft or damage. One operator even had me connected to an employee who left four years ago. Atrocious service from the company. To add insult further, I was also told to take the car to a liverpool depot more than 15 miles away. As a visitor to the UK for a brief visit, I can only describe my experience on Saturday as unprofessional, shoddy and less than second rate. I have asked for the transcripts of my calls which I'm sure won't materialise. I eventually had to leave the vehicle unlocked with the keys inside the glovebox as I had already missed one train but couldn't miss another. My leaving the vehicle at 13.20 being massively inconvenient for me causing disruption to the rest of my already tight schedule.

    extremely unhelpful

they paid my PCN on my behalf, which made me lose my rights to appeal my ticket, i emailed them several times but they were extremely unhelpful and unwilling to come forward, i will never again book again with them, i made since then a booking with SIXT, who are much more helpful !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! UPDATE THEY REPLY THAT YOU SHOULD EMAIL THEM TO SOLVE THE ISSUE, BUT THEY ACTUALLY WILL ONLY REPEAT THEIR PREVIOUS BROKEN STAEMENTS.(i wonder if they will reply the same misleading reply to this update) avoid anyways, there are much better companies on the market to choose from.

    Liars and scammers

I booked and paid, in full, for a small rental car through easyJet, including insurance. It came to £138 When I got Birmingham to collect it, I was asked if I wanted to upgrade to a bigger vehicle. Initially I said no, I don't want to spend anymore more money. She then cheerfully replied "oh don't worry, the upgrade is free". I just needed to pay a refundable £295 insurance deposit which would be returned when I bought the car back. When I got to my destination I realised what I had signed was a entirely separate rental agreement and would not be getting any of my money back. I phoned customer services straight away but they just seemed irritated by me and got nowhere. Sent numerous emails to be told I should have checked what I was signing. I was exhausted with travelling with small children and feel they deliberately deceived and lied to me to double charge me for the rental. Seems like a common tactic that they deploy. All in all cost £433 to hire a mediocre saloon for 3 days.
