    Spam email fraudsters

A couple of years back Europcar scammed me over £100 for a ‘scuffed’ alloy wheel and they have the nerve to send me advertising email/spam saying its been a while since my last rental. Its been a while because you are fraudsters Europcar and I don’t do business with convicted fraudsters.

I rented a car for 1 day but they charged me for 2 days. I also put petrol in the car, But they got the petrol fee from me. They refunded the petrol amount. Although I went to the branch 3-4 times for 1 month, they did not refund the extra rent amount.

    DO NOT RENT THEIR VEHICLES

I can't believe all the negative experiences people have had with this company. I thought my situation was a one-off. When I arrived at the branch to collect the car, I was told the type of vehicle I selected was not available, the only one available was a fiat 500. I am quite tall person 5'8 so this car was really uncomfortable, nevertheless I accepted as it was only for 2 days, and my next rental was with enterprise (who are so much better, it's like night and day). I can only thank God that I actually took photos of the entire vehicle, before taking it out, honestly, never forget to inspect the vehicle before driving off with it. There was one of their employees staring me down while I was doing this (he looked so annoyed) so I called him over and asked why the tyres had no dust caps, plus I mentioned the same scratches and scruffs the woman who gave me the keys had mentioned. He literally said "don't worry we don't consider those." Upon returning the vehicle, I handed over the keys and they did not inspect the car while I was there, I was told my deposit would be in my account after the woman inspects the vehicle (the same guy I saw when I was taking the pictures and the same woman who gave me the keys we're chatting really in deep conversations) so she was saying I can leave. So I left, the money was returned into my debit card, as I didn't use a credit card, I received a statement of return few days later, and the said I tore/ ripped the two front tyres, funny that because I had the exact same pictures of these "tears/ ripped" tyres from that moment I took the pictures before leaving with the vehicle. A few days later I received another email on Christmas Eve of damage notification of the exact same tyres I photographed. This is by far the least worst experience I've actually read on here. I don't understand why they would release my deposit if they believed I damaged the tyres. There is no way they can charge my bank and just in case they do I've already reported the account I used as stolen/ blocked.

What an embarrassment of a company

What an embarrassment of a company. Paid more than I could with another company thinking if I had any issues it would be easier to deal with one of the "main" rental companies. Man was I wrong. Received our car without the staff doing any precheck and straight away noticed there was a low tire pressure dash light on. When going back to the counter they closed and locked up in the 5 min it took us to walk to the car. Was 10pm at night so nothing to do but take the rental or be stranded two hours from our hotel. Ended up with the car breaking down and then being charged "damage" fee and nearly missed our flight. Disputed and dealt with the absolute worst customer service. Could not recommend strongly enough to never book Europcar UK. What an absolutely joke.

    Customer services never answer emails.

Despite loads of emails customer services do not answer. The stock reply on here is to email them, don’t bother they don’t answer. They only owe us £19.99 but they don’t seem to want to even acknowledge it. Also emailed CEO, nothing. Worst customer service I’ve ever experienced.

I would give zero stars if I could

I would give zero stars if I could. Hired car. Got our confirmation email and told when and where to collect. Got there and told the car isn't available and there's nothing they can do. Managed to get THE LAST CAR from enterprise (seriously, go to enterprise, helped us a tonne, much cheaper and we were told it happens ALL the time with europcar). They almost ruined mine and my children's Christmas. If they had ruined the chance to see my children I would be raising hell. F europcar

    ILLEGAL CHARGES

I have never had a worse experience in my life. They take money from your account (thousands of pounds) without even informing you for made up damages. They provide no evidence of this damage but are happy to bankrupt you 3 days before Christmas. Horrible people on customer service as well. They couldn’t be less interested if they tried.

    The staff was incredibly accommodating

The staff was incredibly accommodating, providing a kid-friendly menu that kept everyone happy. The highlight was the outdoor patio, where the kids could play while we relaxed. The burgers were a big hit with my husband and me, and the kids loved the pizza. We also appreciated the variety of non-alcoholic beverages available for the little ones. Overall, the experience was enjoyable for all ages, and we can’t wait to return as a family!

Vile people, vile car, vile experience

Please save yourself the stress and DO NOT USE this illegal scam of a company. I honestly do not know how they sleep at night. They have ruined my Christmas. I have been illegally charged for additional days hire even though I returned the car early as well as being charged for damage that was already on the car. Customer service are some of the rudest people I’ve ever come across in my life and use racist remarks towards customers. It’s absolutely crazy that they can do this to people and I’ll now have to spend my Christmas going through small claims court to retrieve my money.

They don’t do customer service, they just take bookings

Europcar has made contacting itself so difficult, you struggle to get anything done other than take orders. I have made contact with an overseas call centre about 4 or 5 times to try and organise the return of my vehicle, I have stayed in twice for someone not to show up. They won’t confirm the arrangements made, customer service just put me on hold for 20 minutes until I gave up, and they don’t have a contact address or phone number for complaints! Making a booking, simple, trying to do anything else, a complete nightmare.

    Do not use

Do not use! Unless you want your money withheld from you! We paid £250 deposit for the Van plus £70 for the van on the day we got the van. We returned the van the same day and was told the deposit would take 3-5 days to come back to the account. Then it was not put back into our account so we contacted them so we called again and they said it’s actually 6-10 days for the return of the deposit. We then called them again after it was still not returned and they are not returning the deposit with no reason! And now they are not answering the phone when called!

Beware of their tricks when signing the contract

A bunch of greedy short people @Glasgow airport branch. Beware of their tricks when signing the contract, they change the conditions, add additional services without your consent, tinker with the documents, hide the conditions when signing etc. For your safety, choose another rental company.

    Terrifyingly bad service

*UPDATE* they have now of course tried to charge me for damage not made by me, as well as trying to charge me for two extra days even though I dropped it off early. I’ve also had no reply from customer service* I am genuinely shocked and appalled at the dreadful service, or lack of, that this company provides. It is terrifying and anxiety inducing. I booked a rental car to be dropped off at Newcastle Rail Station on a Saturday. Upon returning the vehicle, the shutter was down and there was nobody there to take the keys/refund me my £250 deposit. Note - the sign on the door says Saturday open 9am to 1pm and on my rental agreement it says it is open on a Saturday and to drop it off at 10.30am. Anyway, I called customer service and spoke to the most disgusting, rude and unhelpful man called Younes (refused to give me his full name of course). He told me I was being over dramatic and I should just take the car to a different branch. I book the rail station branch as I needed to get a train home (I am disabled and cannot walk far). Plus dropping to another branch would mean having to pay for a taxi back to the station, as well as missing an appointment. Younes laughed at me when I said I'd miss an appointment and said I was a liar. He said I shouldn't be so dramatic and never once said sorry for this inconvenience. I then take it to the next nearest branch who told me they cannot accept the car and that Younes had given me incorrect information. They then told me to take it back to the Newcastle branch and post the key through the door. I said I was worried about them trying to charge me for any damage that may occur between Saturday and Monday but they assured me it'll be fine. I have emailed a complaint however had not heard back and I'm filled with anxiety that they are going to try and charge me more. Please save your sanity and do not book with this company.

Gave away car that we paid for in advance

Closes on Saturday at 1pm. Not open Sunday. Train arrived late. We called their after hours number on Saturday afternoon and Sunday - no useful help or advice provided. So we could not access the car we had hired and had to wait two days. Called Monday morning - no useful help or advice provided. Went there on Monday during opening hours and they had given the car that we paid for in advance away. Only solution offered was to pay even more money to get a different car. No thanks. Refund refused. Try another company if you are a tourist arriving on a weekend. Do NOT pay in advance.

Documents changed after signing. Charged for 7 days insurance even though rental was 5 days.

The practices of the London Gatwick office are completely and utterly fraudulent. I write this review so others can be armed with information and well prepared not be defrauded by this specific Europcar office of London Gatwick airport. I rented a car on the 30th August with no additional insurance protection to cover the excess because it was already covered on my credit card insurance. I communicated this to the representative who then included medium protection on the package and completely disregarded my verbal request. He asked me to sign the back of the page which I did as it was left completely blank without any additions. After the rental had ended I recognised I had been charged extra on my credit card although there was no follow up email from Europcar to inform of any of the charges (although my email was clearly included on the agreement). I called the office and to my shock they forwarded through the back page agreement which now had handwritten additions of the medium protection package. Europcar, let’s be clear, this is complete and blatant fraud to change a document after it has been signed! Not only this, but I was also charged for 7 days of insurance even though the rental lasted for only 5 days! See photos on Google Review of Europcar London Gatwick for confirmation of this. This rental finally cost me almost triple the price that what was originally agreed in the initial reservation. Therefore, I advise anyone attending the Europcar Gatwick office to follow these recommendations: 1. Record your conversation on your phone with any attendant at this office. If the attendant complains or refuses then point them to this review and ask to speak with their manager. 2. Ensure that the attendant countersigns any documents in front of you before leaving the counter. If the signature looks similar to the one I have posted on the Google review then I advise requesting a manager or another attendant to complete the rental agreement. 3. Cross out any inclusions that are not agreed to and take a photo of the main rental agreement and the back page that list additions so it can’t be changed afterwards. 4. Finally, please post your review of this office so that others can be informed of this fraudulent behaviour, and the individual perpetrators are held accountable. Europcar: If this review means that customer check-in at the Gatwick office takes far longer than any other office then you only have yourselves to blame. I have called customer service on multiple occasions with no action being taken. I have also sent multiple emails that all have been ignored now for over 3 months, which is well over the cited 7-10 days reply time that is promised. You will find the ignored case number as #21259873. I request that a refund be issued for these unauthorised charges and that this fraudulent behaviour of Europcar staff is prevented from occurring any further, especially by the individual that signed this document. If you want to show any endeavour to remain a reputable company then I expect a prompt reply to this review via my email which you have on file. My previous experiences with Europcar have all been positive but this is appalling. It is also worth checking that in all my other rentals I have never requested insurance and I never will. Please check your records to confirm this.

    Another part-time car hire firm.

Actually I didn't hire a car from them, because Europcar are just another part-time UK car hire firm. I called just before noon on a Saturday, wanting a car for two days and they close at 1pm, so can't deliver one to my address and it's impossible for me to pick one up from the 'local' branch. Oh well, so sad you lot don't want to make money off me. Enjoy your little part-time jobs. Hey, why not ask for all of Saturday off, seeing as you don't offer a proper service on Saturdays?

Unexplained charges, overpriced car seats, rip off upgrade costs.

I Booked a car using booking.com for 9 Days while in the UK. It was with Europcar and managed to get the car for a reasonable price. I was happy as I have not had issues with Europcar before. Travelling with my 5yo Daughter I decided that I would just pick up a car seat at the airport THIS WAS MY FIRST MISTAKE. To hire a child seat for the day is a ridiculous price the guy at the counter told me something like 16 pounds per day almost the same price as the car. Hiring for over a week this was a huge extra cost (cheaper to buy one). However I was told that for an extra £30 per day I could get an upgraded car and forget about cost of car seat. Reluctantly I agreed, and with a quick swoshing of paperwork I signed the paperwork. As I booked the car in one currency and the documents are in a different currency I did not do the maths I just kept in mind the 30£ extra per day. When I got the bill there was an extra charge of 100 from the 30£ per day quoted. Having spoken to 2 different people at europcar one said it was Vat one said it was a location charge. In either case it does not seem clear to Europcar what the charge is for. I have tried clarifying this with Europcar on two occasions and have just been fobbed off. The last person I spoke to said they would raise a case. Recommendation to anyone using Europcar. Be careful of the extortionate cost of hiring car seats, Read the paperwork you sign very carefully, I actually feel they purposely deceive weary travellers into signing things and paying uneccesary upgrades. Also don't expect customer service to help afterwards. If you book through an alternative supplier probably best not to upgrade at all as you just get tied up in paperwork.

claiming of a missing charge cable

claiming of a missing charge cable. Glasgow Airports branch claimed that I had lost a charging cable from the vehicle I had rented from them, Their proof? Rather blurry pictures of the boot... What they failed to disclose to me at the start was that the vehicle was a plug in hybrid and the cable would would be in X location within the vehicle. Come to returning the vehicle at the end of the agreement and carrying out a final check to make sure no belongings are missing I find the charge cable under the boot floor. now 2 months later they want to charge me £400 for a missing cable because their team there cannot be bothered to fully check over a vehicle. A complaint has already been raised so who knows...

Go to another car hire company never Europcar

Doesn’t even deserve even 1 star I rented a car and the car charging port wasn’t working, they made us take it to the Aldi garage spent my whole day waitin for somone to tell me what was going on, I was on holiday for 3 days 1 days wasted already then gave us a car with much less value, still didn’t sort the difference for that then said they was nothing wrong with the car and told us they wouldn’t charge for the fuel as ther is a deal but still charged us 100£ for fuel on a 1 litre seat Leon, fyi you can’t even put 100£ fuel worth in the car. They also tried to say it was the charging station but the 4 hours trying to sort it out 2 other vehicles charged a left the station. Honestly the worst company, they respectfully decline a refund. Biggest joke company
