Avoid this company at all costs.

I will avoid this company in future. The car they rented us at Gatwick Airport had dents and scratches on every panel and it took the agent over half an hour just to log them all. On early return a refund was offered by the agent and was accepted but it then took the threat of legal action and a complaint to the BVRLA Alternative Dispute Service to get them to pay. It was eight weeks before payment was made.

    SCAM

I booked car on Europcar UK website at Slovakia Bratislava. They took €100 from my account without any prior notification, two weeks after I returned the car. When I contacted Europcar Slovakia, they claimed it was penalty and my email wasn’t working. I sent them another email address, but they ignored me again. I filed a complaint with Europcar UK and they did not care!!! In the end, they sent me a penalty for a completely different car than the one I rented, claiming it that none of my email addresses were functional.I consider their behavior fraudulent and untrustworthy! I will never rent from Europcar UK!!!I strongly advise everyone to avoid this company. If they get the chance, they will try to scam you and cover it up with lies. They will steal your money!

Failed to provide the vehicle booked

I booked a Citreon Berlingo from Maidstone branch for a 4 day booking, 2 days were needed for a trip to Nottinghamshire to pick up some garden equipment and 2 days to attend a photography course which involved visiting sites in Kent with width and height restrictions on access and parking hence the need for the Berlingo which is about the same height as a car and would be fine with the height restrictions. When I arrived to pick the vehicle up they did not have a Berlingo, only a Renault Traffic which is 2.4m high. Given the time and short notice I needed the van for the Nottinghamshire pick up so had no choice but to accept it, but I was unable to use it for the photography course and ended up borrowing a car for this. The vehicle was more expensive on diesel and more costly for the Dartford Crossing. Having returned the vehicle I complained to Europcar's central tel number only to be told that the Traffic and Berlingo are "similar" and they refused to consider my issue. In fact on Europcar's vehicle specification pages the Traffic is 2ft taller and at least 1ft wider. How can these be considered "similar"? No wonder their trust pilot ratings are so poor.

    Unlawful actions, ignorant staff

This June I have reported I am in danger and the car I have renting from them is in danger too.Because I was challenging suspicious people, we can call them criminals wearing fully black clothes, shoes and SKI MASKS (end of June in 20 degrees) after midnight on the street in a posh area. (I am not writing every details down for a good reason ) They tried to damage the car that I was driving because I called the police on them and that was definitely an action which prevented one or multiple crimes that night. Later the police arrived and those criminals did hide and they lost they torch during they ran away. Following morning the neighbours told me around 5days earlier late night criminals are broke into someone's garage and many things were stolen and caused insane material damage. Where I found them it was the same location where the crime happened earlier. I wanted to protect the Europecar's and other citizens belongings from those criminals when I challenged them, but they did not appropriated I called the police and I disturbed their criminal activities that night so they tried to damage the car during I was driving. So after I asked help from Europcar, my prize was: a terminated contract that I did not know until it was discovered later by accidentally. How's my torture started? I called the branch I told them what happened and what the police advised... I requested to swap my car regarding these serious facts. I had a call back from a female staff from Bristol Airport Branch a bit later who said I cannot get a different car and denied to give me her manager name that she referred to as a person who made this decision.I raised complaint later on that day via phone and the complaint team found their actions unprofessional. They asked me to send them the police log number that shows this was a real action. So, I have sent them via email and they said they will investigate it. I was not able to go back to that area with the car I am driving because the police advised me to don't do that, regarding the potential revenge of these criminals. Needless to say how hard was that day and night with these difficulties. Insane pressure on me either physically in danger, the car I have responsibility for also in danger and this was a huge psychological pressure for me... Terrible experience just because my safety and the car was not important for them. Following day (day after my request was refused by the airport team) I went to a different brunch with a hope they will give me a different car, but there we faced with a shocking fact, they discovered the car I am driving is not even contracted with me, that's meant I must not drive it. He advised me to go back to the Bristol Airport team and asking from them why is this car that I am using is not contracted with me. After my arrival to the Bristol Airport team they also confirmed face to face (not just one, two people) they will not give me a different car just because I AM IN DANGER AND THEIR CAR IS IN DANGER TOO. Yes,not their problem if I will be stubbed or end up in a hospital also if something happens with the car. I will need to pay for that damage anyway so that's not a problem for them.I am just a walking bankomat that's needs to pay and pay.... After they stated this I told them I will be back tomorrow and I will bring the car back because they did this with me and I told them anyway the car is not contracted with me. I started to walk away but one of the member asked the reg.number to check why the other branch member said the car I am driving is not contracted. He found out why is my name not registered with the car. This reason was: because 28 hours earlier a different staff member (who denied to give me the manger's name and said they will not swap the car) terminated my contract. They also told it cannot be by mistake because this is a process to make it done, not just one red button to push. So, the person who discovered this problem said this is serious and he called a different brunch reached out a member there who can backdating/modify the contract. Yes, there is a man who knows the system very well and they calling him to make things to disappear , 'modify' in the system. So, the 28 hours of gap evaporated from my rental history. How do I know this? Because the Europcar stated multiple times there is no gap in my rental history and that gap is disappeared, I saw this with my eyes. However it was there before I have many different evidence for that. So, because of the terminated contract that he found,I couldn't drive the car that I am arrived with, so I had a different car from that night. And when I told him the stop start system is not working properly he just said "this is MG" Needless to say, this is going to different social media platforms and I do work on it to publish in different news too plus goes to legal way to get my compensation for this long torture.

Gurpreet Kaur IS RACIST TOWARDS ARABS

Gurpreet Kaur is a sheik, who if I'm not mistaken is part of the Seik Community here in UK. When she see's an Arabic, or Muslim name making a legitimate complaint, she leaves it several months, where her team fail its own Europcar, by manipulations of wrong emails, refusal to following process and procedure of complaints then when months go by & I warn of Legal procedings, she quickly replies failing to deal with my complaint to any satisfaction, AS A RESULT, ANY ARABS GET THIS RACIST PIECE OF SLIME IN EUROPE CAR, YOUR GOING TO LOSE AGAINST THE RACISTS, IT WAS ALSO A SHEIK WHO I WAS COMPLAINING ABOUT, ONLY AFTER I FURTHER INVESTIGATED MY FINDINGS. I AM AN AWARD WINNING HEWLETT-PACKARD FORMER EMPLOYEE, WHO'S DEBUNKED THE SECTARIANISM AND RACISM IN MANY FORMS. Gurpreet Kaur IS A PROFESSIONAL RACIST.

    Don’t expect too much

Another poor experience with Europcar , yet again failing to collect vehicle when booked to do so . Another 2/3 days with their vehicle being stored for free , even though they charge an out of hours fee of £30 to every booking my company makes .a vehicle has neither been collected or delivered out of hours in my memory . A simple phone call out of courtesy would suffice but sadly. that appears not to be a thing in Wolverhampton

    I’m a disabled driver involved in a car…

I’m a disabled driver involved in a car accident. The insurance put me in touch with europcar for a replacement whilst mine was being fixed. They are money greedy and will charge for anything and everything. Letters that went to them regarding the accident I was charged £40 admin fee even though I got a copy of the letter myself and they will find any minute fault whether it be not enough petrol in the tank, made up marks on the car etc to charge you more money. I would rather go without a hire car then get involved with this company again.

    Poor Communication

When the car arrived at my home the ignition fob was not working properly and I had to replace the battery at my own expense. The car was returned with an almost full tank of fuel but they are still trying to take money out of my account. Twice I rang them (opertives grasp of English is poor) and twice I was promised that my complaint would be acknowledged. Their customer service is very poor UNLESS dealing with a problem with the car while you are using it; then they are helpful.

They didn’t cancel the security deposit

Since 10/29/24 I have been asking Europcar to return the security deposit for the rental of a vehicle returned on 10/21/24. We had a conversation at the beginning and they insisted that the deposit was not an approved purchase, even though I sent proof that the purchase was shown as approved on my card. The person who answers the customer service emails does not read what I write and responds with excerpts from the manual, saying that everything is fine, within normal limits. My card statement closed and they charged me about $1,000 for the deposit. I am outraged by such disregard for the customer.

I will never ever use Europcar again!

I will never ever use Europcar again!! 😡😡😡 I was involved in a serious car accident and unfortunately my car was written off by the person that caused it. I was forced to have a hire car at my own expense so I could get to work. The hire car I had booked was unavailable on the day of collection at Manchester Airport and I was downgraded to a car I wasn’t comfortable driving after my accident, I wanted a similar car I knew how to drive. After I told the desk my situation I was told I was able to upgrade to a car I knew how to drive. For an extra £10 a day, I agreed and proceeded not knowing that I would have been charged a lot more money for the upgrade I originally booked a £363.58 car for 15 days I was actually charged £900 for 15 days with a £500 deposit that I still haven’t received back. Not only have I been mis-sold, I am under more financial pressure because I was mis-sold by Europcar. Customer service is utter rubbish and they are not interested in you. I am self employed and need a car for my job. I worked for 15 days to just pay for a hire car, it would have been cheaper to just be off work. They do not deserve your business AVOID!!!!! 😡😡😡 …. I know Europcar will reply back to this comment with some lovely customer service reply or asking us to private message them…. Don’t be fooled everyone they are utter thieves with appalling customer service !!!

    This company is a scam

This company is a scam. I rented an electric car for one day, but on the day of pickup, I was informed that it was unavailable and was given a hybrid car instead. I was assured that the price difference would be refunded. Instead, the company charged me 150% more. This matter will be reported to the bank. I do not recommend this company, avoid at all costs Edit; contacted the customer service who don’t take any responsibility for the wrong charges and not helpful at all!

Beware of Misleading Charges at Europcar Manchester Airport

24, nov update: Followed up and received a canned reply, insisting we have signed the agreement, which is expected. ===== I recently rented a car from Europcar at Manchester Airport through Trip.com. Upon arrival, I was offered a “free upgrade.” Tired after a 19-hour flight and being unfamiliar with the detailed terms, I trusted the salesperson’s assurances and signed the agreement. To my shock, I later discovered I was charged £847, including fees for services and upgrades I was never informed about. These charges were not transparently explained during the transaction. While I acknowledge my signature, I believe this was obtained under misleading circumstances. The salesperson’s failure to disclose critical information left me feeling taken advantage of. I reached out to Trip.com to dispute these charges, but the resolution was unsatisfactory. Despite presenting my case, the charges remain, with no acknowledgment of their lack of transparency. Unfortunately, I am not alone. After my experience, I found several similar complaints about Europcar’s unclear practices, such as: TripAdvisor Review of Europcar Heathrow - 1. “Scam Upgrade from Europcar!!” 2. "Scammed for Extras fees" 3. "Reddit Post on Europcar Issues - Europcar Heathrow Rental Scam" My intent in sharing this review is to warn future customers. If you choose Europcar, I strongly recommend documenting every interaction, asking for detailed explanations of all fees, and carefully reviewing the agreement before signing. Transparency and trust are essential, and unfortunately, my experience with Europcar fell far short of this standard.

    Dreadful

Dreadful, one star is generous as minus wasn’t an option. Booked car a week early for a trip to see my elderly mum as it had been too long. Arrived on time to collect, first, the car I booked wasn’t available only a small Fiat, not ideal for 9 hours of motorway driving. Went ahead anyway, produced all documents, dvla code etc then was told they couldn’t rent me a car as I hadn’t passed their id checks. I have no motoring convictions, no criminal record and have been driving for over 37yrs? Walked out in disgust, called Enterprise who sorted me a better car out and was on the road in under half an hour. Do not use this company they will waste your time refuse you rental of a car for no valid reason or explanation and you’ll still have to wait for monies paid to be returned. Terrible experience

    AVOID AT ALL COSTS

AVOID AT ALL COSTS Car was picked up in Carcassonne. It was returned in perfect condition and signed off. Some days later, they then took money from my account. No letters, nor any means of contact. On calling them, and this isn't easy, they said I had damaged the car. Further phone calls were put on hold and they never come back. Without doubt, this is a ploy to not have to deal with you any further, in the hope you will go away. I have all the photos and the car in in perfect condition. They still have my money. This company needs to be investigated for what I believe to be fraud. On checking I see this happens frequently. TAKE YOUR CUSTOM ELSEWHERE.

    AVOID AVOID AVOID.....

AVOID AVOID AVOID..... Update.. you are sending the same automated response to every customer that complains. 6 hours later still no response!! I have been waiting on a hire car coming from Europcar (Belfast branch) from last Tuesday. A hire car was requested via Motability, I have had a number or calls and text messages from Europcar saying a hire car would be delivered to me but still nothing. On Tuesday of this week I was told a car would be with me be 4.30pm it did not arrive, yesterday I was told a car would be delivered by 1.30pm again no car arrived. I called in the afternoon and was told they don't have a car to give me and they book a car for me each day in the hope they have one. This morning Thursday (9 days later) I have been on hold for 16 minutes to be cut off and told no one is available to take my call and to call back later. I have made a formal compliant to Motability about the service you provide!!!

Scamming with made up damage that’s already there

Picked up a car from Almería airport in October. Had loads of damage on it ranging from scratches in almost every panel and a cracked binnacle. Lots of damages declared on pick up. Took loads of photos. Sent them to them. Returned car back in same state. Back home for five weeks now and they’ve charged me over £600 for damage. No notification. No invoices. No proof of any damage done by me. Absolutely nothing. Nobody inspected the car when I picked it up or dropped it off. It’s cheaper that way for them having to employ people to check them in your presence. Just a sneaky charge on my credit card. Seems to me they bill everyone for damage, and never fix any of it. Basically the customer actually paying for the car they rent out. The car had over 50k on the clock. It’s clearly a well used car. To be honest, there was that many scratches and dents on it, it was hard to match up what there was on the paperwork. Now I’m going through the pain of trying to get it back through my credit card. Nothing but crooks. They may as well dipped their hand in to my wallet. ***update-*** I challenged this charge and they come back to me with a refund. They haven’t actually told me what I was being charged for and they took over £600. It’s now taking up to 12 working days to refund it. If you ever hire a car, take pictures of ANY damage. No matter how small. Or how much. If there’s a lot reject it. (I should’ve done this). This car had so much damage on it, it was hard to distinguish what they actually declared. Mainly small dents , scuffs and scratches. And make sure you email them as soon as possible with the damage. Luckily I sent mine within 24 hrs and they had a time stamp which they asked for again. Hirer beware. Would even be advisable to take pictures when you hand it back to save any grief. Like the two weeks I’ve had dealing with this. Goldcar is next door to them in the terminal. I’m going back to them next time in Almeria. If you honestly don’t contribute to any further damage and they bill you weeks later (like in my case) challenge it. I can’t believe I’m the first and won’t be the last. Good luck and happy holidays. This put a sour taste to the end of mine.

Quick and hassle free at Europcar Heathrow…

I rented a car at Europcar Heathrow airport, and when I arrived I was given a bigger car than I booked without paying extra. The pickup was quick, easy and hassle free, and the car was very clean. The drop off was also quick and easy and after drop off which literally took 5 min the shuttle to the airport was ready and we were at the airport in 10-15 min. I got my withheld (deposit etc.) money back within few days. Based on this and previous experiences I would definitely rent a Europcar car again. Highly recommended.
