Gave me invalid vouchers 😂 and was told to contact the office that gave me them which closed down… I’m meant to contact ghosts to help me out !!

Imagine they double charged me whilst booking a car on their website, now cut the long story short they gave me a £30 voucher to use the next time I was going to book a car. Now I’m trying to book a car and they tell me the vouchers THEY GAVE ME are invalid 😂 Honestly you can’t write this stuff ! That’s not even the worst bit, I’ve contacted Europcar by email and told them about this issue, after going back and forth and sending me a member called ‘Rosa’ she advised that I should contact the office that gave me the vouchers but I had already told her the office closed down as they moved location ! Honestly bad customer service and believe me that’s the last of my money ever going on a Europcar rental.

    Scammers!

I rented a car through Europcar on Goldcar, and the voucher I received described conditions that were completely false. It stated that I could leave a deposit instead of using a credit card. However, upon arrival at Goldcar Portugal, I was informed that they do not accept deposits under any circumstances. This was the first misleading claim. Additionally, the voucher indicated that renting a device for automatic payment on highway tolls was optional. Again, this was false. According to the staff at the Goldcar counter, the toll payment device is mandatory, not optional as stated in the voucher. Due to these inaccuracies and misleading representations on Europcar’s voucher, I was unable to use the service as it would have incurred significantly higher costs than initially quoted. I wrote an email complaint to Europcar, clearly outlining how the service they sold me was misrepresented and requesting a refund. After an unacceptable delay of eight weeks, I received a dismissive, generic response that completely ignored the reason of my complaint, simply stating that no refund would be issued because the voucher was not used. This completely missed the issue: I did not use the voucher because of the false terms Europcar provided. I responded to this inadequate reply, requesting a proper analysis of my complaint. Four months have now passed, and I have yet to receive any follow-up or resolution. Ironically, when I submitted a negative review on Europcar’s customer satisfaction survey, I was contacted multiple times the same afternoon. Unfortunately, this was futile as the representatives could not address my complaint, citing it as a matter for a different department.

    Never again with this thieves

I hired cars for in total about 3months. When I extended rentals, they charged me more then I would have paid by changing cars (due to distance and time has to accept it), but the most disgusting behaviour, they tried several times to take unexplained amounts of money from my account (thankfully never had enough in account). Which serious company does that? Enough that you suffer as repeating customer but this is just to much to accept!

INVERNESS AIRPORT BRANCH - PAYMENT TAKEN SERVICE NOT DELIVERED

I recently made a booking using Europcar and would implore that they are avoided. I reserved a vehicle on 25th November for collection from the Inverness branch on 16th December. Payment was taken in advance upon reservation. Upon arriving at the airport at 9pm on 16th December, the keys were not released to me. No reason was provided. I was handed a piece of paper with an email address to find out further information. I was then stranded at the airport with no way to reach my destination. The airport eventually closed and I had to wait outside for a ride to my destination as my presence in the airport was not allowing the airport staff to leave and I did not wish to delay their arriving home safe. Europcar didn’t have a similar concern as I was left outside in the rain, in the Scottish Highlands, at 10pm. Surely 22 days is ample time between the reservation being made and my collecting the car to prevent this from happening? The following day I sent an email to the email address I was provided to inquire further. The email was re-directed to the branch. I found this odd, as why would the branch instruct me to email the address provided if that email address was going to re-direct me back to the branch? Regardless, I waited a further day for contact. No contact was received. I then began to get concerned as they had already taken payment and my booking was live on the app and I had not received a refund. I proceeded to call Europcar on three occasions. On each occasion the advisor tried their best, but due to company policy being flawed, they were unable to advise me regarding my refund or the booking. Each advisor referred me back to the branch. I would recommend they listen back to the call logs in this instance as all three advisors agreed that the situation was a mess. The branch did not contact me as promised, so I returned to the branch. No further information was provided and I was once again referred back to head office. This has been a horrendous ordeal. Europcar need to consider the appalling customer experience that is delivered. Note I am a repeat customer, having rented cars on three occasions using Europcar, and was still treated terribly. Do not use. There are other rental companies that will take your custom and deliver what is promised. EDIT: in response to the canned response left by Europcar, I contacted using the link provided and have not received any response. An urgent issue treated without consideration on their end…

I hired a car on the 28th November from Manchester airport and the man (unfortunately, I can’t remember his name and can’t read his writing) was so nice and helpful. He ran me through everything I needed to know and even told me about the free shuttle I could use the week after to get to the terminal. 100% recommend.

    Europcar UK is a fraud

Europcar UK is a fraud. They charge for the same scratch multiple times, there is no evidence at the paperwork, if you ask them, they would come with an internal ruler showing what size of scratch or dent is allowed and where but if you go to the terms and conditions, there is no such a thing like 'a damage size allowance' on regular cars. Scratch on the wheels were on the photos before and after, they sent me bill 521 gbp for scratch on 2 wheels. Car returned in August 2024, invoice came in Oct/Nov 2024, I have dispute, as on 18/Dec still not resolved. Also, I have another contract with them, where a car had a sticker it has been cleaned but in fact there were spiders nets on multiple areas, not cleaned at all, screenwash was completelly dry, with multiple scratches all over and without any evidence in paperwork. The car was in unsafe condition. We phoned multiple times, sent emails, with official letter and photos attached, without any answer or solution. It has been since August 2024, till Dec 2024 still open case, no answer. On the other hand they want to send my 'unpaid invoice 521 for their damages' to solicitors. When I sent an email with photos, they replied I have not sent the correct photos, etc. I am preparing official complain to inform car rental regulators. I have rented cars with turo, I have 5* reviews, also with alamo and others. From what I tried, just europcar is a massive scam.

They cancelled 6 hours before booking for house move

As promised, your one star review for cancelling my moving van booking on the day of the move without offering a suitable alternative . As discussed, had I cancelled the booking you'd have charged me a fee, yet I am supposed to take it? Shockingly, the same van type is available to book online from your branch, how is this any way to run a business? Booking elsewhere at short notice has cost me more money. Advice to others, don't give this company your money.

    Complete scammers and illegal activity

Complete scammers and illegal activity. I rented a car 2 months ago, they queried marks on the rim of the wheel, which I advised were already there and shared photos and videos of them. They agreed and returned my full deposit. Now 2 months later they have charged my credit card £93 for ‘damage’. I don’t even think that’s legal and raised a dispute with my credit card to return the money. Avoid these scammers at all costs

    Fraudsters

Fraudsters ! Beware of this company and their Non existing customer services . After seeing reviews on here it is very obvious their trading practises are shady and the company doesn’t care about customer satisfaction or customers rights or their reputation at all. I Had to have the debit card reissued as there is no other way of stopping them charging my account with unathorised charges.

    Europcar, hopefully never again

One journey, one evening, c. £130 miles - filled the tank up on return: £83. Clearly it hadn't been given to me full of fuel: polite email to Europcar ... reply informed me I was fortunate not to be charged more as the tank wasn't completely full when I returned it, end of case for them. Hire charge, insurance and fuel... the most expensive short journey I have ever taken! In any other walk of life, this would be simple fraud or sharp practice... Europcar, one to avoid I think...

Please stay away from this company

Please stay away from this company. They ended up charging me £225 for a car for one day and they keep taking money out my account every month. They keep asking me for bank statements and never resolving the problem. This company should be investigated.

    AVOID EUROPCAR!

Since 1980, I have escorted thousands of people around Europe, and I still do so today. Over the years, I've used Avis, SIXT, National, Hertz, Enterprise, Sureprice, Auto Union, Budget, and Alamo, and every company has consistently been above board and treated me as expected. Only Europcar has acted dishonestly and disreputablely. EUROPCAR made three unauthorized charges on my credit card: $894.41, $53.57, and $63.90. I returned the car with a full tank of gas, no damage, and clean. I rented the car through CHASE using points and my credit card. I contacted Europcar. They never explained what the chargers were for but eventually offered a refund IF I paid another unexplained change! Chase offered a partial refund but claimed they could not get me a full refund because EUROPCAR said I authorized the additional charges. I regret not researching the company and other customers' difficulties with EUROPCAR's fees and additional charges. $894.41 may seem like a small amount of money to some, but theft is theft. Until EUROPCAR refunds my money and corrects their error, I will let everyone know on my tours and future travels and urge everyone renting cars to avoid this company.

Very negative experience cant believe it!!!…

Despite renting a fully insured car from Europcar switzerland , agreement number 50873110 with the highest insurance coverage, I faced a serious safety issue due to a faulty satnav that led me over a dangerous mountain route. When I called Europcar Assistance, they failed to respond. I had to involve the police, who sent emergency services to tow the car to safety, costing me 200 CHF. To my shock, Europcar refused to cover the towing charges and provided zero support throughout the ordeal. Extremely disappointing experience with no accountability or customer support

Terrible Experience with Europcar (Since Fixed)

*** Edit - I escalated this complaint through some of my own channels and eventually europcar agreed to refund me on a mutual basis. So I am glad it’s fixed now, just caused a lot of stress on the way. - *** I had a Europcar rental for three months while my Mercedes was being repaired, and the experience was abysmal from start to finish. The car was delivered with only 3/4 of a tank of fuel, despite their policy stating it should arrive with a full tank, yet I was still charged for fuel I didn’t use. When it came to collection, they left the car in my driveway for over a week and then gave me just two hours’ notice while I was 800 miles away on business. I had to scramble to get my brother to drive 60 miles round trip to hand over the keys. Despite these massive inconveniences and their lack of professionalism, Europcar has shown no interest in addressing my concerns or resolving these unfair charges. They expect customers to bend over backward for their mistakes while offering no accountability or goodwill in return. I’ll never use Europcar again and would strongly advise others to avoid them.
