Monopoly Events - Comic Con Liverpool Reviews

First time going to a comic con was a very great day but only downside was couldn't see what was on all stalls as it was really really busy. The other thing is need more signs to show where stuff was as we just followed other people to see where we was going.

I absolutely loved Liverpool Comic Con (May 2024). It fell on my birthday and they announced Jared Padalecki who I absolutely adore so attending was a no brainer. Things that went really well for me were that there was more space to walk around between the stalls as sometimes it can get really cramped, opening the third space and having more seating available was fantastic. I really enjoyed the colouring tables, which gave me an opportunity to ground myself in what is quite a stimulating event. For me, the volunteer staff were amazing, especially the Asian lady and the lady with a blonde bob who were managing Jared’s queue, they were wonderful! I had a positive experience with the staff of the venue, however, the queuing system before the supernatural panel wasn’t working and the panel ended up running late, which had a knock on effect on the rest of Jared’s schedule. Things that would be great for next year are cheaper food and better variety for vegetarians/vegans. Thanks for another amazing event! Can’t wait to come back again! Xx

I had an amazing time. I only attended the Saturday and got the guests I wanted to see, was enough for me. The only thing I would say is regarding the diamond pass. I get they pay a lot of money to jump queues but due to these, the normal queue took longer and meant some people would queue for hours to be turned away. I think a great idea is a specific time slot for the diamond pass holders so as to not cut in front of people. I waited 2 hours hours for a quest who wasn’t even sold out. I still had ana amazing time though and will definitely be returning

First of all I want to say that I honestly believe that comic con Liverpool is not only the best con in the uk but also the best in Europe, if Andy and the team keep going the way they are hopefully they will be talked about in the same breath as San Diego CC in no time. So my thoughts on Comic Con today…. 4/5/24 Positives: Plenty of seating (even if it is in the arena part) which is ace after a long day of walking round from area to area. Lots more food kiosks in the M&S arena side, with a good few choices also. Less stalls 😞 but a lot more room in the isles I thought, they seemed wider this time which was great. The idea of time slots…….(which brings me to the negatives) Negatives…… The red drawf staff had no idea about the time slots, so you had people (me included) missing out on booked times because people without them were getting priority, not diamond passes (they should get priority) so at some points we had 3 queues for red drawf stars diamond, time slots and then pre booked/pay on day. Make sure they know that diamond have first priority, then pre paid before going down the line selling pay on the day tickets. Maybe have a member of staff at the start and end of each line, check people actually have tickets before allowing them to queue up, therefore saving all these issues. If you can sort this major balls up out before November you’ll have what I consider the perfect con. The staff who had the utter nerve to ask people to prove they are disabled, what in the hell is going on there? We come as a family with our daughter who is autistic, but you would not know that just to see her, does that mean she is not disabled because she is not in a wheelchair? I have read from a few people this weekend that the staff were very horrible when it came to people with disabilities asking them to prove it???? MONOPOLY EVENTS YOU REALLY NEED TO SORT THIS!!!!! These “staff” are going to end up giving the company and con a really bad name. Lucky enough this didn’t happen to us or I would have ended up killing whoever this man was. This is a major red flag. We know most of them are volunteers but the attitude on about 70% of them is terrible, if they don’t want to be there don’t hire them. Power hungry and jumped up are the two words that come to mind this time. Please just try and have a staff meeting on the Friday before the con so that staff know where props are, where to send people, attitudes towards paying customers (some paying hundreds/thousands) and most importantly disability training please. I can’t wait to see who you’ve got lined up for November, but please either try to organise the booked time slots out (ie: explain to staff that it’s happening) or just get rid of them. We will always attend comic con Liverpool because it’s the one thing our autistic daughter loves doing with us as a family, she’s already planned her cosplay for November. I’d like to think you read this and hopefully take a little of what I’ve said on board. Karl

Great event Some minor issues with overcrowding And underestimating popularity of certain guest causing long queues Apart from that excellent event

Overall I have given 4 stars because at the end of the weekend I got everything I wanted, and I did have an amazing time meeting the LOTR guests. I take one star off for the organisation of the event. On Sunday one of the headline guests auto sessions ran late by about 40 mins, so their photo session started late. It started when it should've been finishing (started after 12.20 instead of at 11.40). I was told by staff to wait and get this photo before heading back to the ECL building for my other photo because that session was running from 12-1pm so I would get there in time for it. Meanwhile, in the ECL building that photo shoot ended before 12.30. I showed up a couple of mins after 12.30 (when the session was due to end at 1pm) and was told all the guests had left. I was absolutely devastated. This was the main photo I was wanting and I showed up in time for it but it had ended early. After explaining to staff what had happened, they told me they would speak to the guests' agents for me. The guests agreed to come back out and do the photo just for me! This was amazing. And in the end the photo came out perfectly and means more to me now than maybe it would've done in the first place! But the panic and worry of missing out on this shouldn't have happened. Communication between the two buildings should be better, and schedules should run on time. I understand there can be delays, but when this happens it should be communicated to attendees so that if they have a clash it can be sorted out. It was annoying to see a Facebook post saying that the headline guests schedules ran on time all weekend, when this was not the reality. But like I said, in the end, the staff were amazing, especially Georgina, as she went out of her way to get this sorted out for me. I am so grateful to her because it means the world to me that I was able to get this photo with my favourite actors after being a huge fan of their work for 25 years! The only other negative for the weekend was that I overheard some staff on the auto queues say that they were going to start alternating the queues (letting some general in before diamond) which should never happen, because people with diamond passes have paid so much more for that priority. Even if the general queue is big, it is not fair to let anybody from that queue in before the people in the diamond pass queue. Thankfully this did not happen to me, but I did overhear some staff say they were going to start doing it when half the diamond queue had gone through. This was in the auto queues. With the photo shoots, diamond always went in first. I spent 4 hours waiting in an auto queue for a guest on Saturday because I had a general ticket. I don't mind, because I shouldn't have been given priority over anyone with a diamond pass, and in the end the wait was worth it. Queuing up to meet a guest is in the nature of comic cons, so everyone should expect to wait a long time, especially for a huge guest who is only attending one day. Also, it seems that auto timeslots were not being followed at all, because these tickets were not being checked by staff on the queues and people with later timeslots were showing up early and then being given a raffle ticket to come back later, and getting in front of people with booked timeslots. What is the point of booking a timeslot in advance if you are not going to follow them on the day? But overall, yes, 4 stars because I did have an amazing experience (in the end). I just think some of these points about organisation need to be addressed for the future.

An absolute outstanding experience! Extremely well organised and Tons of energy and work put into every single event (fact) I’ve not missed one since they Began and I’ve had absolutely zero complaints, my only issue is two events per year just isn’t enough.. all the monopoly staff are extremely hospitable, very courteous and go above & beyond to help any queries… I’d personally like to thank Andy & all the monopoly team for their impeccable work and 100% dedication into these events, making them bigger and better every year.. these guys are the real super heroes making our dreams come true (fact) high five to you all

Amazing experience as always, they never disappoint and this year was probably the best year!

Absolutely fantastic! Would 100% recommend going. Guests are top draw and stalls are too. I had a fantastic time and looking forward to going again

This was me and my little families first time at any Comicon. There was me my partner and our almost 2 year old daughter. Was quite a last minute decision for us so only got 11am entry for Sunday but we had the best day! We got to meet the lovely Orlando Bloom who was an absolute pleasure! His queue did take longer than expected but understandable for someone so popular. We loved all the costumes and the props, lots of space to sit and lots of wonderful stalls to check out. Really caught the bug for comicons now and can't wait to do another!

A brilliant event! Even with one bad experience I had with an actor, the team handled it with care and class and took me very seriously. You’re definitely in good hands at the event and there’s plenty to do!

Decent guest line up, staff were great as always. No issues from myself

Stood in ques for hours to then get told the guest is on a panel and to come back later. could barely move felt like show was oversold

Great experience Brilliant guests Very much enjoyed Pete Jackson Magic too, made the time go much faster in queue and very interactive! Would be great to see him at other cons

Traveled from walsall definitely worth the journey, amazing comic con loved every minute. Great merch stalls, awesome cosplay, overall perfect day out. I met jared padalecki from supernatural he was amazing, loved it and i didnt have to wait long in the ques as the times slots worked great. Definitely would recommend to anyone who loves comic con and cosplay.

Me and my partner visited both days over the weekend where he got to meet the cast of his favourite film and he couldn’t be happier with that as the guests were all so nice and were more than happy to sign items and chat. However we encountered so many issues during the day, especially on Saturday. We got let in at 10am with 11am entry tickets and had a pre booked time slot for an Andy Serkis autograph at 11:15, his queue was already wrapping around the building and seemed to be little to no organisation going on. The building was really hot and crowded, and as I struggle standing up for long periods of time especially in heat, a lovely staff member let me use her chair in the queue. A member of staff came down the queue apologising to everyone and we received raffle tickets to come back for the next auto session as Andy had other things to do which is completely understandable so we moved onto our next time slot for a photo with the Mordor trio. There were multiple queues and no staff member we asked seemed to know which queue was which, and when asked, one staff member rolled her eyes and said she wasn’t dealing with it and went to stand with other staff chatting and laughing. My partner was the one to organise queues and asked people who they were waiting for and told them where to go, this isn’t acceptable when we’re paying customers, he shouldn’t be the one to guide other customers when staff say they don’t want to deal with it. On Sunday, there seemed to be a calmer atmosphere and my partner had a diamond pass for that day as he had 4 autos and 4 photos. As we began queueing for a Sean Astin photo, a couple who were deaf were asking questions to the staff at the front of the queue, regarding rules for the photos. My partner who works in event management and organisation recommended hiring a sign language interpreter to make this a better experience for the customer. They were put before us in the queue which isn’t a problem at all, but after their photo one of them walked back to Sean for a solo one, as he didn’t understand the rules regarding one ticket is one photo, this didn’t slow down the process as it took seconds, and Sean was more than happy to take the picture. However the same member of staff from the day before who handed out raffle tickets went to grab the customer and shouted saying he couldn’t do that and making him really confused and panicked. Sean Astin was the one who stood up for the customer and told the member of staff “they’re deaf, they can’t hear you” which the staff looked embarrassed and tried to apologise to Sean, who again was more than happy to take the picture, but didn’t apologise to the customer for shouting in his face. The staff member said they didn’t pay for a second picture but Sean clearly wasn’t bothered about the money and was using sign language back to the customer saying thank you. The couple left looking very confused and we felt this could of gone a lot smoother if there was an interpreter there. The guest and customer should not be put in that situation at all it was completely unacceptable, there were a few other staff around in the photo area and no one said anything, this was a highly uncomfortable situation and I hope this didn’t ruin the experience for the couple. I bought a pay on the day photo with Billy Boyd just after this experience and as my partner was the only one with a diamond pass I asked if I could use his as this photo wasn’t planned and we had another timeslot next and made clear it wasn’t an issue if I couldn’t, and the response was “I mean you shouldn’t but I don’t care” and I got let through with diamond passes. Overall it was a good con with great guests, it was just very overcrowded, we didn’t get much time to look around the stalls on Saturday despite only having one auto and one photo. The attitude of some of the staff was absolutely disgusting and made us feel very unwelcome.

Was a great buzz and fantastic guests. The staff were lovely. I felt there should’ve been more selection of food stalls especially outside the venue. We were there the whole day of Saturday annd Sunday and hardly ate a thing purely on the lack of variety. It was frustrating after seeing the Q&A’s in hall 1A (green zone) we all had to leave out the opposite door which took you back into the red zone so we had a bit of a walk back to the green zone if you had anything scheduled there straight after. They are my only gripes. It was crazy busy but all in all we had a great time and will be back.

First time...what an experience. Was so excited to dress up and meet my favorites!! 2 things to consider...if you are having prepaid choose tome slots then divide the lines into 1 diamond 2 the time slot 3 all other prepaid 4 pay that day. Then those who prepaid are given priority. Better sound ....ie. give event staff mega phones or microphones so they don't have to yell. Was nice that panel was broadcast in the auto/photo room but impossible to hear. Was a great first time and I will be back!!

This year's Comic Con was a lot bigger than previous ones, there was definitely enough activities to be busy the whole day and the guests were amazing. Two things that I found frustrating were the lack of food choices and signs. The "Food Court" had only two vendors open, one selling burgers, one selling a sourdough pizza (£8). They were not prepared for the amount of customers and ran out of soft drinks around noon. The venues were not colour coded, so we were often confused which venue are we in and which map to look at. there were not enough maps through the areas, the ones on the tvs didn't come up very frequently amd due to the colour coding issues, it was difficult to make out which event takes place in which venue. an overall map rather than just separate maps of the individual venues would be useful too. especially marking where the food stalls are, toilets, seating etc.

Attended on the Sunday. Had an amazing day. Was even better than Star Wars Celebration last April. Took our packed lunch and water bottles in with no issues. Got the autos and photos we paid for no issues. Even got three more autos on the day. Again no issues. Hardly queued at all. Brilliant event. My daughter and I were judges choice in the cosplay masquerade. Kids enjoyed the Harry Potter potions class. Had the best family day out. Well done on a fantastic event.
