Don't waste your time
Staying at the Scandic Hvidovre hotel was an absolute disaster. We had booked the family suite, which to our horror was extremely unsafe because the ceiling jutted out so that it was only a few inches above the top of the bunk bed. Naturally, the bed situation and the fact that the room itself was tiny, led us to request a room change. When we mentioned our concerns to the front desk, the lady was very friendly and understanding of the situation. The other front desk member Nikolaj was very rude and standoffish – not at all the treatment one would expect at a widely-advertised hotel. The lady did her best to try and accommodate us to another room, but unfortunately, we had to upgrade with our own money to the largest suite. Not only did we have issues with our check in, but we also had issues with other staff members. For example, we were enjoying breakfast and toasted our bread in the only available toaster, which was located under a sign that said something along the lines of “we welcome all types of dietary restrictions such as gluten free”. One of the breakfast staff members comes up to one of us and harshly asks where we got the bread and why we ignored the sign above our heads (apparently that section was the gluten-free section but there were no clear signs that there shouldn’t be any cross contamination). We were visiting from the USA and are very familiar with taking precautions around allergies. We were very offended when the lady rudely told us to not toast our bread at the one toaster available, especially when there were no clear labels that said “gluten-free only”. On a separate occasion, we were filling up our water bottles at the breakfast area because we were going to be traveling all day. The staff again disrespectfully told us to not fill up our water and offered no other alternative, despite us later finding a waterspout in a different section of the lobby. We told the manager about all these issues, which was an even bigger disaster. She argued with us and threatened us to not be rude to her staff, even though they were the rude ones to begin with! Such a shockingly terrible experience.
While the hotel breakfast was decent and we appreciated the help of some of the staff members, we were very unhappy with the stay. When we were taking taxis throughout Copenhagen, all of the drivers told us that this hotel did not have a good reputation and that the members were probably racist towards us. They also mentioned that this hotel attracts more business clients so it's not very family friendly. Additionally, it is not well connected to public transit to the city and is in a remote area of the suburbs. The hotel is near a hospital, so you are likely to wake up from the sound of ambulances, especially if you are staying on the side facing the highway. The hospitality is awful and will disrupt your vacation. No matter what the context, do not waste your time at this hotel.
