African Safari

We have just returned from an amazing holiday in South Africa, Zimbabwe and Botswana. Our guide Nicolette Lehmann and coach driver Sonnyboy were also as amazing and couldn't do enough to satisfy our group. Nicolette was a wonderful leader and her knowledge of historical and geographical facts was extremely well presented during our tour. She set up a WhatsApp group so that we could converse with each other and display photographs of the incredible animals that we saw on our visit to 3 game parks and Victoria Falls. This greatly benefitted those with only mobile phone cameras who were able to see photographs taken by members of the group with their sophisticated cameras! It is difficult to understand why 2 members of the group were so negative about their experience and this caused much anguish and upset to the rest of the party. Their lack of appreciation of both African culture and wildlife begs the question of why they were on this holiday! We have travelled around the world many times and adventure abroad about 6 times a year. This was one of the most memorable holidays that we have embarked on and would RSD for arranging such an incredible trip with super accommodation and food. Jenny & Roger Stocks

South Africa 🇿🇦 , Zimbabwe 🇿🇼 & Botswana 🇧🇼

What can I say but WOW, WOW, WOW. 3 Countries in 2 weeks & over 3000km in a coach. It was a tough call but we made it. The whole experience outdid what I was expecting. I know from previous long journey trips with RSD (Cappadocia) that there would be early morning starts & you can't do a Sunrise safari if you don't get up at 4am, but I was fine with this. Saw things I will probably never see again. The guide Nicolette was very informative, when we could hear her, as some individuals thought it right to talk throughout the commentary, alot of us found their actions totally inappropriate. Nicolettes information on culture and history was far better than a guide book. I'm a disabled traveller and both Nicolette & Sonnyboy (driver) were very helpful and both always had a smile on their faces. Nicolette even managed to arrange airport assistance for 3 of us from South Africa via Dubai & again at Manchester, I've never had a transfer work so we'll. I managed to do all the sights the same as he rest of the group, just a bit slower but this wasn't a problem for the guide & driver, plus the rest of the group were accommodating and very friendly with the odd exception. The roads to Zimbabwe were bumpy to say the least but the driver did an excellent job. They did warn us beforehand. I paid for extra excursions because I felt this was a once in a lifetime trip & it truly was. The helicopter trip over Victoria Falls was breathtaking and Kruger National Park was like nothing I've ever seen before. In total we covered over 3000km and for anyone asking if its a trip worth doing, I personally will say yes & its money well spent.

South Africa/Botswana/Zimbabwe

This was a fantastic trip, 3 countries in 14 days. It is a full on trip but you see so much. The safari drives were great and Victoria Falls amazing. The other stops were great too. Nicotte the tour guide was very informative about the local area and very helpful. The driver Sonnyboy did a brilliant job especially with the roads in Zimbabwe. He was always friendly and happy. The trip does include early rises but all safari drives start early. Nicolette organised a WhatsApp group which was great as we could all share photos. The next days information was always on there too so we all knew what was going on and timings. We also had two extra trips to local towns which was lovely of Sonnyboy. The hotels were all lovely with some exceptional.

Excessive single supplement

Tried booking a holiday as a solo traveller with RSD. The single supplement meant that the cost to me was £658 vs £618 had I been a couple. When I called customer service I was told RSD cannot do anything about it as the single supplements are set by the hotels. Can't get my head round it! The person I spoke to said that many solo travellers have similarly complained

3 excellent tours so far

We've been on 3 RSD tours now. The value is unbeatable. Our second tour was curtailed by the beginning of lockdown in Morocco but the company were very efficient in getting all the guests back safely. Our most recent tour to Rhodes and Turkey was packed with wonderful sites, good food and well chosen hotels. The week in the Rhodos Palace was a welcome time of relaxation after what had been a particularly good tour, especially for lovers of ancient history. We've already booked to go back!

Our Experiences

Efficient administration starts the process, good value for money. The company always has an interesting itinerary, they take you to sites that are worth visiting. In our experience the guides are knowledgable and informed, their English is of a good to excellent standard. For me the guide makes the itinerary, they have to manage the group and maintain good relations. You won't find them lacking in expertise. Hotels are well chosen in all our visits, 20+ hotels we've stayed in, only one was disappointing, but even this had staff trying to make the best of limited resources, the rest good to excellent. Finally manage your expectations, this is a good value for money, but do expect delays, (it comes with travel) and don't expect it to be cheap booze. Your travelling party are mostly delightful. But there's those 5% who love to moan and groan, whinging pops as the Australians would say.

Discriminatory company for disability - Leg department !

I have tried today to book with this company who will not accept a booking from me as I have somei issues walking ( I am not non ambulatory I need assistance over distances) despite the fact that I have travelled the world with this disability RSD are telling me Quote -‘ it is mandatory that you participate in all the tours’ yes that fine - I do the bits I ca t do ( Croatia, lake Bled Pitvic lakes last year with Newmarket Hiolidays ) the bits I can’t ( as with others in any group with limited walking ability ) I don’t do. I have a companion no one has to d anything for me. IThe problem seems to be the ‘ ballistic missile AKA a small battery operated scooter. Airlines will take them so will most others it’s even been on the Great Wall of China and to india & an African safari BUT NOT RSD!! I have been on tours where some people can hardl put one foot in front of the other I can walk but only on short distances as is true for other people with heart or chest problems or just elderly Otherwise I need mechanical help. I have travel insurance the scooter is insured so what’s the problem? it would seem to lay with RSD travel whose blanket policy is no wheelchairs, no walking frames and no scooters. They see, whquite happy to discriminate against persons with a physical disability. How appalLIng RSD — 2024 and you implemented discriminatory practices Saga, Titan, Newmarket Travelsphere don’t have issues but RSD do please don’t dont get ill on their tours - I’ve been told participation is ‘MADATORY’ so goodness knows what you do if you get sick or just want to have a day ‘off ‘ presumably RSD ghestsp guides will be knocking on your room door whip in hand to make sure you comply and meet the mandatory requirement of full and total participation don’t think of opting out of climbing up that hill or set of setups! And hide your walking stick I hope no member of their staff ever has an accident illness which incapacitates them and has a similar experience to me or perhaps they should to be able to see things from a better and more considerate perspective ! you need to review your policies RSD and not make ‘ blanket ‘ discrinatory’ shocking practise in this day and age —- NIl stars but I had to give ones Trust pilot doesn’t do nil and minus! EDIT RSD a have replied to my email about this refusal to take my booking and put forward their very bigoted blanket policy to refuse to take a booking from persons who need to take some assistance equipment on their tours and asked if I would amend the above. After considering email all I can say is they just rubbed salt into the already inflicted wounds. Considering my experience as a disabled traveller which is GLOBAL no I stand by every word I have said and question their practice in relation to the Equalities and discrimination acts. Lots people have hidden disabilities which affect their ability to fully participate but they are invisible that’s the difference ! I wonder if they would refuse to Frank Gadener or Nickie Fox both disabled journalists who like me travel the world on all sorts of terrain with equipment, but when I read other Trust Pilot reviews I think I have had lucky escape some of them - well Look for yourself! There was plenty of availability for this tour I couldn’t get past the booking clerk because of the blanket refusal on disability equipment Norther Cyprus but Newmarket Holidays do the same been with them before so I’ll speech my cash with them

Cultural tour of the kingdom of Jordan…

Cultural tour of the kingdom of Jordan - Petra, Jerash, Bethany - Mount Nebo and other cultural sites. Many tourists this year have avoided Jordan because of the troubles which is such a shame because we found no reason to stay away. We were looked after every minute of our holiday. The hotels were all good and most of the time our rooms had been upgraded. It was so exciting to visit those biblical sites. Our guide Sabatin was experienced and knowledgeable. He went above and beyond expectations to ensure our holiday ran smoothly. THANKS AGAIN Sabatin! I would go back again in an instant.

Gross Misrepresentation

Some years ago, we booked a tour of Turkey with RSD Travel and were impressed by its organisation and the quality of our guide, staying in comfortable 4*and 5* accommodation. As a result, my husband and I booked RSD's French Tour to visit the 10 most famous World Heritage Sites with 7 nights in 'selected comfortable hotels'. What a disappointment. I quote from both the brochure and their email dated 10th April in reply to asking where we would be staying: "The accommodation offered on our cultural tour of France with the most notable highlights is in 4 and 5-star hotels (country category), as advertised”. This was a gross misrepresentation. We were accommodated in 2* Ibis Budget Hotels and 3* Campaniles with only one night in a very acceptable 4* Novotel. The Ibis hotels were filthy, the second with peeling paint and something horrible spilt on the carpet. Our night in Arles was beyond a joke. We'd been given a 'family' room, consisting of a fixed double bed jammed against the wall, so it was impossible to get out of bed at night without considerable effort. There were no dedicated points to charge our devices in any of the hotels. Our two adapters were ill-equipped to charge with the voltage. We paid for the optional ‘Gourmet Food Package’, which covered dinner only. One night at an Ibis, we were served overcooked tagliatelle with an indescribable, inedible 'sauce'. The dessert consisted of stale biscuits. I doubt if any of the meals in these budget hotels cost more than 50p per person. Again, the notable exception was the Novotel. On our last night at the Campanile in Dijon, our guide announced that he would need to order a meal as the only option was a microwaved meal to be selected from a vending machine. If you book with RSD, ensure you know what's included and what's not. Last time, bottled water on the coach was free of charge. This time, it was Euros1.50 a small bottle. We had to pay for entry to most sites. There were two redeeming aspects. Our guide, Tobias, was delightful and entered into the spirit with our jokes about the accommodation and food with 20+ extremely disappointed professional and well-seasoned fellow travellers. The second was the modern, comfortable coach and our driver, Eddy, who was very helpful.
