Extremely Disappointing Experience with JUCY – Safety & Hygiene Concerns Ignored Unfortunately fell far below the standards we expected, especially having had a great experience hiring in the past. From the outset, the vehicle presented multiple serious issues: Rear Suspension: Constant squeaking that made us question the safety and roadworthiness of the van. Black Mould: There were visible mould stains and patches of black mould inside the vehicle. Completely unacceptable in any rental, and downright dangerous for my partner, who has a respiratory condition and is highly sensitive to mould. Rear Doors: Both rear doors were extremely difficult to open, adding to our frustrations. We contacted your after-hours support line on Day 1 and requested a vehicle swap. We were not advised that this was even an option, leaving us stuck with a substandard and potentially unsafe vehicle for the entire trip. When returning the van, we again raised our concerns and were told by your staff that we should be entitled to compensation. We’re still awaiting confirmation on this. They also mentioned that mould stains are to be expected in a vehicles in Cairns. This experience was both disappointing and unacceptable, not just due to the condition of the vehicle, but the lack of support we received during the hire. We sincerely hope JUCY takes this feedback seriously. We will not be hiring from JUCY again unless there is a clear improvement in vehicle maintenance, hygiene, and customer care.

Too stressful to enjoy our holiday

The vehicles available are in a shocking and unsafe condition. We had to change vehicle halfway through our trip and only receives a measly sum in compensation. We have since been charged for an AA call out with a dead battery. The battery had to be replaced two days after this callout. The mechanic, upon seeing the battery, highlighted that this was in fact the wrong battery for the vehicle! Please avoid!

A Near-Death Experience – Do NOT Rent from JUCY

We put our trust in JUCY when we hired a campervan for a winter trip through New Zealand, expecting a roadworthy vehicle that could handle the harsh seasonal conditions. What we got instead was a complete disaster that nearly cost us our lives. From day one, the van proved to be dangerously unfit for the road. We lost control multiple times on straight, de-iced roads — and it wasn’t just us. A local road worker pulled us aside to tell us flat out: this vehicle should never have been on the road. That’s not just disappointing — that’s criminal negligence. The mechanical and structural issues were endless: The roof leaked, soaking our bed and sleeping gear. The hose for draining grey water was broken, leaving us stuck with stagnant waste. The shower was completely non-functional. Worst of all: there was a GAS LEAK. That’s not just an inconvenience — that’s a serious, potentially deadly hazard. This wasn’t just a bad experience. It ruined our trip. We had no choice but to cut it short and return home early after what can only be described as a near-death experience. JUCY’s negligence, lack of maintenance, and disregard for customer safety is unacceptable. Do not trust JUCY with your safety or your holiday. They clearly do not inspect or care for their vehicles properly. This company is an absolute disgrace and should be held accountable before someone actually dies.

Overall avoid!

Pros - Cheapest big company van rental (but you get what you pay for), staff are friendly, with the extra insurance check out and in very easy and quick (in hindsight too quick didn't really tell us how to make the bed etc), they paid for a replacement gasmate bbq when ours broke, you can stand up in the van Cons - very poor build quality and space lay-out. The van is massive but they utilise the space so so poorly. No clothes storage. No bin. Gas BBQ is in a box you have to take out every time (unlike other vans we have rented where its just a pull out draw. Bed is a massive massive faff to make everything. It involves removing a 3 part table and then rearranging loads of cushions before putting a sheet on. Again other vans just utilise the space way way better!

DO NOT HIRE

DO NOT HIRE - unless you have time to return the vehicle and get everything fixed every two days. You couldn’t pay me to hire a campervan from here again. I should’ve listened to the previous reviews here. Almost all of their Condo fleet have bald tyres (not roadworthy) and we experienced a very scary slip that could’ve ended in a crash (we were going under the speed limit and driving carefully over wet tarmac) - brought it back after two days for a refund and they admitted there was an issue with the tyres and wasted two days of our vacation - didn’t refund. - they fail to advertise that it gets about 25L/100km - terrible fuel efficiency even for a campervan, which is shocking when considering they are meant to be the “newer” hiaces. Factor this into $3/L petrol and your in for a massive cost. - plenty of previous passengers hairs lying around which is great if you want to do some DNA research, not great if you’re trying to find peace and get good sleep. - stains everywhere - including the bed sheets (photos) - usb ports didn’t work - gas stove didn’t work (and if they did only one at a time and these were the “newer” ones) - rattling sound from the AC that was painfully irritating on a long roadtrip - entertainment system didn’t work - cutlery was freshly used and not washed by the previous customers or JUCY - sink didn’t drain (and when it did, it would take an hour) I was doing a relocation to Auckland and they include that there may be issue with the vehicles which we would be advised about - but we weren’t advised of any of these. Additionally, the safety risk is not worth the hassle. We ended up renting from a more reputable and trustworthy rental company and I’d advise you do the same. They ended up charging us an additional $500 more because we returned the vehicle early and refuse to accept another death trap that would have similar issues. Still no refund. People were kind and the campervan was a good idea but poorly maintained.

The car was very old, dirty and faulty

We picked up the car in Adelaide and dropped it off in Melbourne. The car was very old, unkept and dirty. It still had old flies in the ceiling and the doors (all 4) were broken. The sink was leaking water into the dish compartments. We tried emailing about these things but got no response. Also we called to ask if we could bring the car back one day earlier and the Jucy attendant on the phone said it made no difference whether it was the day before or not - but we could of course not get a refund for the day earlier, which made sense. We then called the next day to say, that we just would bring it back on the original date and then they tried to charge us for an extra day (which we had already paid for!). She put us on hold for 10 minutes and we decided after to bring it back the day earlier to not pay for the same day twice. We nearly missed the dropoff time because of being put on hold and still don’t get how they wanted to charge us extra. For each toll that the vehicle is charged on roads Jucy adds an administrative fee, which the other companies we have rented cars or campervans have not. Beware of hidden fees. Would rather spend our money elsewhere on renting better vehicles and better service.

The employees were friendly but the bed…

The employees were friendly but the bed broke upon first pulling it out, leading me to have to return to the office when I was already running late due to the large line when I first arrived. Also I was missing towels, a table, and the pull out surface to cook on.

Ich habe zwar das Auto bekommen

Ich habe zwar das Auto bekommen, aber es war alt und es hieß zwar ich würde eine Email wegen Kratzern etc. bekommen, die kam aber nie. 1 Woche nach Ende meiner Reise haben sie mir wegen einem BEZAHLTEN Strafzettel eine Bearbeitungsgebühr von 33€ abgebucht. Zudem habe ich keiner der angeblich versendeten Emails bekommen und die Dame im Support meinte irgendwann, sie mache ja nur ihren Job... Das Auto fuhr zwar, aber den Stress war es mir absolut nicht wert.

Disappointed

I was quite satisfied with the rental. Its price is very low so I didn't expect a good campervan. However, what disappointed me the most is the hidden charges they make you pay if you go to tolls or you need to pay a fine (e.g speed limit). In my case, they charged me the double of the fine only as a management fee. From the $100NZD the 70% goes only to Jucy. It is a robbery!! Very disappointed with this. The cheap sometimes is more expensive...

If you want to enjoy your vacation, DO NOT rent from Jucy Lucy

They don’t maintain their campers, which can be very risky for you and your family... they gave us a camper with a hydraulic steering oil leak (something totally preventable). We called because we were stranded on the road, and they told us to buy the oil and they would reimburse us... we had to stop repeatedly to buy and refill the oil, which wasted a lot of time... at the end of our vacation, we emailed the receipts and NEVER got a response or any reimbursement... TERRIBLE service and attention to their customers.
