chuffed with how G&M handled my query. Dead easy to sort out.
Ethan was friendly and knowledgeable and, from the outset, he made what could have been a difficult subject (my not wanting to renew) very easy to discuss. He made me almost feel like signng up again!
I had a fantastic experience overall with G&M, right from the initial quote stage through to a recent claim. All my questions were answered by the sales team. They never made me feel rushed or pressured. When it came to making a claim for some physiotherapy, the claims team was extremely helpful and efficient throughout.

the minute you have a claim, General & Medical become a nightmare. they are great collecting your money, but don't you try to claim a penny from them.
Opening hours are limited so it's very tricky to get hold of and speak to someone to advice. The claims policy is very difficult and long winded. This makes putting through a claim very off putting. Other insurance companies have accounts with health care providers so you don't have to mess around with making payments and then trying to claim them back from your insurer. General & Medical don't offer this. Their price is competitive but in time of need their service is not efficient.
I have had my medical insurance with General & Medical for many years now and now i have retired i have continued to pay into my policy. During this time i have made a number of claims and always found the process for doing so very unique in the fact you get to speak with the same advisor on each occasion and straightforward. Thank you very much in a world full of negative reviews, people often forget to detail positive experiences.
I thought I had bought peace of mind. Supplied the company with all required info upon opening the account. They excluded anything to do with the bowel, I had admitted to taking 4 pills to relieve IBS & admitted I had some prescription steroid cream for a skin condition, all/any skin conditions were also excluded. I thought at the time, God forbid I get stomach cancer but if I did I'd be covered as opposed to bowel cancer where I wouldn't. I accepted the somewhat bizarre terms and diligently paid a monthly premium for 22 months C. £2860, without making a claim. I had a bit of trouble with my right knee. The practice I use, for more than 20 years, has always sorted the insurance claim direct (in this instance 2 x £45= £90), G&M were unknown to them. I had to deal with the claim via G&M who informedme that; 1. I needed my GP,s referral, for each and every claim (I had already finished treatment by this time) 2 Permission for my full 600 page medical notes to be released. I adhered to these demands whilst profusely apologising to my GP for wasting his time with a condition that I had already been treated and signed off for. G&M eventually wrote to me to say that my claim was unsuccessful as I had not disclosed a problem with my right knee dating back 21 months ago. They had informed me that my GP had charged £50 for providing them with my records and their 'get out' clause.I paid my physio bill of £90 and cancelled the NON-insurance policy. . G&M are now claiming I owe them £950 for using the policy (I didn't, they did) and cancelling mid term and are threatening me with court action if I do not pay.Bring it on I say! Buyer be VERY aware of giving this VERY REPUTABLE COMPANY any of your hard earned, 'Money for nothing and the chicks are free' Dire Straits !
I have had thirty years of experience with Heath insurance companies and naively thought a premium of £1700.00 would buy peace of mind at a trying time. Not only was my company contact lacking in all empathy or humanity but the approval process moved at a snails pace despite frequent phone calls and requiring my full medical history (600 A4 pages!) from birth (for a prostate problem!) which I spent an evening helping my overloaded surgery to photocopy hoping to move things along. At the end of the process my claim was rejected (read moratorium agreements carefully or avoid- the are the ultimate get out clause) This therefore, might seem just sour grapes, but if one pays decent money surely one should expect to get service to match! I should have guessed the kind of shoddy set up when I received my original agreement - a cheaply laser printed affair that had been seemingly badly hand-stapled together in the General and Medical tool shed.
