2nd year tutor has been incredible

Sandra our tutor for year 2 has been so supportive and helpful and brings passion and knowledge in abundance. She shares so much and her feedback is thorough and thoughtful and so helpful. She's been amazing and I'm excited to continue the second half of the year and progress onto year three. Thank you so much to the staff behind the scenes and placements team too for always being ready to answer queries and help where they can.

Chrysalis/tutor

I have been with chrysalis for 2.5 yrs, my 1st year was enjoyable, with a great tutor, my 2nd year not so much, however, on year 3 1st session in January, my current tutor gave me structure, with slideshows & video clips to explain in more depth and giving examples of the different topics, I have thoroughly enjoyed my first 5 modules as I am a visual learner, the guidance given is great by Sarah Jones and she is a real fit for our group, I am looking forward to the rest of my final year with Chrysalis

Great experience!

I have had a great experience training with Chrysalis. The pluralistic content of the course has been very interesting and I believe has put me in good stead for my future as a counsellor. Most beneficial to my experience though is my tutor, Martina. Martina is incredibly knowledgeable, always puts us at ease, fills us with confidence and gives valuable feedback.

Feedback on my course

I have enjoyed parts of this course, but have also found it very frustrating. Within 3 months of joining the course, our tutor left. While I appreciate, this isn't Chrysalis's fault it was frustrating. With this in mind, my new tutor Honey has been amazing and has made my course experience much more enjoyable. I feel she was one of the better elements to my course. She was very helpful throughout my journey and was always on hand to help. Unfortunately, there are quite a few negatives to my experience. 1) I found the layout of the course work to be very confusing. I.e. component 1 having 2 modules within it. It made it confusing when submitting as numbers kept getting muddled up. Possibly having Component 1 then module A & B? 2) Having a deadline but having to hand it in a few days before so we can get access to the required reading. This has never made sense to me. What is the point in having a deadline, if we need to hand it in days before? I think access should be granted a week or two prior to the next session. For some people they couldn't get access to the reading prior to the session as they were pushed for time to make the deadline. I personally didn't have a problem with this however having to hand in before the deadline was frustrating. 3) The coursework wasn't very well weighted. At the start of the course we had lots of small assignments i.e 250 word summery etc. Then at the end of the course we had a 3000 word essay, 15 questions to answer/ write scripts for, SSP1 (2000 words) and SSP2 (1000 words). It would have been better to have the large assignments spread out throughout the course as the end feels very weighty. 4) Being told to wait for up to 3 months for our final results (which always seemed too long to wait considering we got marks back within a week usually), yet I was told by another course that they received their marks back in less than 2 weeks of handing in their final assignments. The only reason I point this out is because I am due to be starting my second year in January and apparently I am not allowed to start till I have passed year 1. I don't want to be held back because of marking taking long. 5) Uncertainty regarding information - Tutors being told something different to what we initially thought. Not sure if the information we were given was wrong or things were changed during the course? Feedback: I think work, deadline and course layout needs to be clearly set out from the start as there was a lot of uncertainty throughout the course. Without the help of my tutor Honey, I think our whole year would have struggled. She was very helpful and pleasure to work with. Overall I found my experience to be ok. I am aware that hypnotherapy isn't my main goal for this course so I am hoping the final two years will be more enjoyable as I am most excited for the counselling element of this course. I do hope details are confirmed so we can manage our time efficiently as I am aware that year 2 & 3 will be more intense.

PS

Doing a professional course while working full time is hard but the Chrysalis team supported me well.

I was happy with my Chrysalis course. In the beginning I was a bit disappointed that we had to take a component of Hypnotherapy, however, have now found while working with 'real' clients that the knowledge I gained there is actually useful. My tutors were very helpful, knowledgeable and approachable and I found the Administration and Results team always supportive and understanding. It felt at times like an uphill struggle because I worked full time while taking the course, couldn't start my placement first because of Covid and then because I fell ill, but the great support I received from the Chrysalis team helped me through, so that I could pass the course successfully.

I have just completed my first year

I have just completed my first year. When submitting the last lot of work, I had terrible trouble uploading to Moodle. It was extremely stressful, to the point I suffered terrible anxiety. I have since found out that my colleagues experienced the same issues. Unfortunately it has lessened the excitement of passing. In addition the mandatory additional Module 11was OK but in the last part of the session, a student was put on the spot by the tutor. I felt this was unprofessional. If I had not already done a year on the course and paid money, I would leave.

Needs improvement

I really struggled to write this review because I wanted to start with thing's I liked, and was overwhelmed with things I didn't. The course is one year hypnotherapy + counselling skills and then 2 years just on counselling. I have absolutely no interest in Hypnotherapy and so have felt this year has been a bit of a waste of time for me to be honest. However, at the time of enrolment that was the only option given. That said, I have met a really fantastic group of people and i'm looking forward to getting to know them further for the next 2 years. The enrolment process was easy, simple, welcoming and informative. Thing's I had an issue with: - I understand the staff that are in office for support queries are 'understaffed' as it is written on our dashboard but sometimes it takes over 7 days to receive a reply. - Our tutor was a real problem. I am not going to say his name because he's a nice guy - just not a good teacher. - Our final assignments and certification comes before the final class. Therefore, by the final class everyone who never wants to do hypnotherapy again is so over the course content and it feels, again, like a huge waste of our time. - Moodle, the online dashboard with our course content, is really confusing. Several people missed bits of key information/documents necessary for classes because we just couldn't find it. The layout is messy and you would need to be fairly computer literate to navigate it - which not everyone in my class is. - Some of the video lectures online were almost word for word the same as the class notes, which we had to read. It would have been much better to have the video lectures about real-life scenarios or watching the concept in action, rather than someone just reading the same thing i've just read. - Things I liked: - Our class is really big which I find good, it takes some of the pressure off having to answer every question and means you can always find someone to talk to. - Our 2nd year tutor is really good. Completely different to the 1st year. - Once you work out Moodle, the documentation is very informative and easy to read.

Great course, admin support unreliable

The course itself was great however trying to get hold of the Admin Team was very difficult, I made numerous attempts to call, leave messages, and email them for days and weeks on end and didn't get a response. I submitted a form to cancel the Counselling course which I never received confirmation of it being processed and then they tried to take payment for it from my bank.

A Horror Story!!!

An awful experience, all told! - Unprofessional staff in their treatment of certain students, bar one tutor, over 3 years. Course began, more or less, as expected. Then swiftly declined into horror as 'finding a placement time' arrived - no REAL help in finding one - just a useless list, where most contacted asked whether Chrysalis is BACP accredited (???) - Woops!!! No they are NOT - This is crucial to most student future success. Oh! They used to be accredited – ummm! Most placements also expect that YOU ARE IN THERAPY & remain so for the next 2 years. Why? - Most placements expect you to remain with them for 2 years. All the ONGOING FEES have been mentioned on here before. Fees to the Nat. Soc. Then you have to pay insurance as a student/therapist - Some placements expect YOU to pay for supervision & dispute the amount of time you need it. Modules are incorrectly marked - You then have to spend stressful time challenging the mark - When you prove your point, there is no apology - just 'Oh, we'll tick that off now, then.' - Certain placements collude, saying you have not met standards for supervision, whilst supervisors disappear on holiday, without notice to the student. At this time, you have already paid the '?supervisor?' for several months in advance. When you appeal this awful situation, feeling absolutely robbed, Chrysalis' HR dept. act as the "independent adjudicator" - NOT! .... Knew something was up, when they requested a course review after only TWO MONTHS! Some of the south-office staff are lovely and others are rude as well as useless - Of course, we'll never see them - Will we? - But, they'll see us! Half the students left by 2nd year. A complete SCAM in my eyes - PAID my money - PASSED every module! - No certificate for 2 years of 3. I continue to seek justice. Who would have thought a course supposed to assist/promote mental health works, by any measure, in the opposite way? I WISH YOU WELL!

Money grabbing 'not for profit'

Money grabbing 'not for profit', qualify anyone, preach how important client safety is while showing no duty of care for the ones in training, the tutors are qualified but not trained to teach, no value for money - considering such cost you'd expect to have learned more.

The course has been a mixture of face…

The course has been a mixture of face to face and online. Whilst it is good to meet face to face the time we spend online has been productive. The time passes so quickly. The course content has been interesting and easy to follow. Looking forward to the next two years.
