Hot water issues

Not fit for purpose depending on your water type. Three years extended product and customer service warranty and completely ignored for 6 months when dealing diedtly with the CEO. £600 out of pocket with a product that worked for a total of 2 months of a 8 month period.
This is the third review I have written for Skuma. I had various difficulties with my machine. On my previous trust pilot review, I stated that the company and I were working together to find an outcome that worked for us both. This has now happened and we have agreed a solution we are both satisfied with, which is why I have given a 5 star rating.
I do like my machine but there are some things I don’t like. It can be a lot of work at times. I dread doing the cleaning bit, the worst of it being getting the filter out of the machine. I’m 76 and I haven’t got the strength to do this. In order to get enough strength I have to put the machine on the floor and put 100% of my strength into it. It’s probably ok if you’re a young fit male. The water isn’t really hot enough for tea but saying that it does make a decent cup. I’m not sure the filter lasts a year, especially if you are a family. I changed mine after about eight months and I live on my own. The infusions can work out expensive but since using the machine I hardly ever have cramp issues. It’s nice to get rid of my kettle. Filling the machine is a bit of a nuisance every day and because I’m in a very hard water area I waste an awful lot of water down the sink (I don’t have a garden). I paid extra for a tube to take the extra water straight into the sink (very overpriced). The downside of this is that the water removed from the machine is so bad that it stains the sink! Thanks Thames Water. When I’ve had problems Skuma have done their best to help me, I just don’t want the problems. I’m wondering if a new machine will be coming onto the market with some of these things ironed out. So, although these are a lot of negatives I do like my machine and wouldn’t be without it. It just needs improvements.

Initially I was excited by this solution as the marketing I saw on Instagram highlighted that the solution dispenses both hot and cold water and that the filter lasts for up to a year. On receiving the product I’m afraid I found it very basic, and it felt more like it was a Beta testing product. The water filtering sound is extremely loud, loud enough to hear around the house (it sounds like a small diesel truck engine running). It’s also very labour intensive, I have to empty the waste water tank approximately 4-6 times daily and fill the main tank twice daily in normal use. That doesn’t sound like a lot but doing this 30 or so times per week does feel frustrating. The cold water function is not chilled so in warm weather such as now the water is room temperature and I have found the hot water option to be extremely unresponsive and frankly dangerous. When the hot water function is pressed, it takes up to a minute to start and then starts spurting boiling water sporadically, this only ceases five seconds after the off button is pressed or I have to pull the plug out. Additionally the mineral system trips in and out for some reason and the daily values of the mineral system are only a few % per 2L of water so have minimal real nutritional impact. Recently I was advised that for hard water areas the filter only lasts 5-8 weeks versus the one year originally advertised. The system now makes a continuous clicking noise. The water does taste very clean but for the additional cost, time and usability I find the system quite a lot of work.

Finally had a positive experience with customer service over the phone :) Have dealt with awful customer service, I tried to get in contact with my faulty machine and had no response. Then finally was contacted over WhatsApp but received no response when I replied, avoid this company.

Had my Sküuma for 18 months and it's been one of the best purchases I've made. The cleanest of water (now I really smell the chlorine in tap water) and the easiest of maintenance. Highly recommend.

Bought this due to living in a high rise apartment and the water tasting off. Have used for just over a year and I am very happy with it.

Unit has been brilliant up until was time to descale the machine,3 different ways how to descale,one YouTube video which is a complete waste of time to watch as tells you nothing,pdf file download tells you something completely different then you get WhatsApp messages from an A.I which again tells you different things,can't speak to a human,probably the worst company I've had to get in touch with as everything is just A.I,
