I had a truly awful experience with North Car Rental. After a long-haul flight, I received no clear instructions on how to get the shuttle to the rental location. This led to a major delay after being taken to the wrong site. I had informed the company in advance of my late arrival, yet was told my booking was cancelled and would cost an extra $100—completely unreasonable given I had kept them updated.
At the desk, I was pressured into paying for a daily toll package with no clear explanation. I was told this was mandatory, even though my voucher clearly stated it was optional. On top of that, I was charged a sanitisation fee and additional taxes that were never mentioned upfront.
The vehicle I was given was not the class I booked—it was older, smaller, only ¾ full of fuel, and within minutes of driving, a tyre pressure warning came on. The car also smelled unpleasant and was covered in scratches and dents. It genuinely felt unsafe to drive.
Staff were rude, dismissive, and aggressive when I raised concerns. The experience left me feeling shaken, especially arriving late at night as a solo traveller. I contacted the booking agent (Discover Cars), but they didn’t respond until the day the car was due to be returned—far too late to be of any help.
I would not recommend North Car Rental to anyone. Misleading, unprofessional, and completely lacking in care for customer safety or experience.
