Review summary
Newton Property Management receives consistently positive reviews. Customers particularly appreciate service and professional, though some mention concerns about communication and customer service.
I contacted Robert Gilfillan regarding an issue I was experiencing whilst paying for my quarterly statement.
Robert was very understanding and accommodating, he was responsive and assuring. Couldn’t be happier with the finance dept of this organisation.
Thank you Robert.
This is a genuine review from a genuinely impressed customer of Newton Property Management.
Robert Gilfilan spotted something irregular on my account and sorted the issue, effectively. For that and for restoring my faith in humankind, I am grateful!
I’d like to take the time to thank Laura for her prompt response to concerns from myself & other home owners on our development (Hallside Farm) regarding drop in standards from a landscaping contractor. She has been able to quickly provide us with a few alternatives at competitive costing on which our development can now have the say on how they want to move forward.
I have lived in a block of flats managed by Newton for over 8 years. I cannot find one positive thing to say over that entire time.
There has been a revolving door of property managers who have been increasingly unavailable for residents to contact. They are never available for a face to face meeting with residents, even to introduce themselves and understand the needs of the property. They do no respond to emailed queries. We have had issues with main doors or bin stores needing repaired that residents have resorted to getting handymen to fix themselves. Unexplained items appear on the quarterly bills with no justification why we are being charged. Bike lockers are no where near secure and are not fit for purpose. For years they had us paying an electrician and extortianate amount to travel to Edinburgh from Glasgow to open a cupboard and turn a dial so that the lights would actually come on when it was dark.
Urgent external decoration works were deemed necessary in 2020 and a quote was charged at several hundred pounds per flat in August 2020. Work was confirmed to start in September 2020. This never happened. This turned in to an absolute fiasco moving between different suppliers, all giving quotes, then once they were supposed to start the cost would suddenly increase, then access would become an issue, until after months and months of delays the genius idea of opening the windows to get these painted dawned on someone. That must have been at least a year ago and still no work had been done. Recently the contractor appeared on site unannounced and this entire saga looked like it might come to an end. Only for a resident to contact Newton who claimed to have no idea and the contractor swiftly left having painted a couple of windows and left the rest of the building still urgently needing treated. SO it is June 2023, close to three years since the work was paid for and it is still not done. Several flats have had issues with water damage over Newton's complete incompetence to arrange what they deemed essential work. All through the process contact from Newton has been at best minimal and incredibly sporadic but mostly near non existent.
You would easily forget there was even a factor if they didn't send quarterly bills charging for a complete lack of service. Steer clear of this company at all costs.
EDIT FOLLOWING REVIEW RESPONSE:
The latest communication regarding the external works was received 17/04/2023 in which your company mentions that you had put the project on hiatus in August 2021 (bit of a delay there with little activity don't you think). Also in that same update it states that "partial funding" had been gathered which is also a bit different to how the payment you took in 2020 was worded which seemed to suggest it was covering the full works at the time (and slightly suspiciously was never actually included on an invoice but rather just taken based on the quote). This April update regarded a meeting being organised primarily to work out the access issues (i.e. needs the input of ground floor owners where garden access is required). There has been no communication received following this meeting despite assurances that you would write to all owners following this meeting and the relevant on site visit from the contractor. It's two months later, no update from Newton, the only communication I have seen has been between other owners.
On the not being listed as an owner you have been asked multiple times to update your records as I am the owner of the property. I requested this again on my email dated 22/05/23 which I have still not had a reply to despite sending several chasers and you taking the time to try and dispute this review.
Would be delighted to actually meet or speak with your team, perhaps you can provide details of this when you answer my emails.
Our property manager, John Hempstead, has been a great asset in keeping our building in good condition. We live in an old traditional building that requires constant maintenance and John always appears to keep on top of it all.
Positive Experience with Newton's Property Management
Factors and Managing Agents have generally poor press and we have certainly experienced poor service from managing agents, in the past.
In contrast to this, the service that we have received from Newton's has been of a high standard and their property manager that we deal with, Linda Thomson, has been very positive and productive.
We look forward to building our relationship further and working closely with Linda.
I want to write this review to thank both Scott Robertson and David Docherty specifically for their approachable behaviour and providing continued assistance with getting the roof repaired at my flat. This has been an ongoing issue since 2017 and I’d only moved in middle of 2022, not knowing how severe the damage was to my roof. I immediately called up Newton and have been having regular correspondence with Scott and David, who listened to my panic and explained what could be done to help resolve this issue finally. I’m thankful for their support during this stressful time, I’m glad these flats are being managed by Newton.
I have had a number of properties in Inverness for many years. Newton took over the block management for one of my flats a few years and inherited abacklog of poor work and management by the previous management co. Wayne Browne at the Inverness office has been running the site since then and the turnaround has been remarkable. I had worked with Newton in the past but Wayne goes above and beyond and has turned the site around completely. Highly recommend them.
