We had a terrible experience with this outfit at their Newbury Garage.
On collection of my vehicle after repair their card machine failed and triggered a 'payment pending' message at my bank (the same happened to the customer after me). Leaving me with insufficient funds to make a second payment.
Despite the fact the delay was their fault, and payment was pending, they refused to let me take the van and insisted on detaining it. This caused huge problems with my business. Their interest in customer care is zero. Their failings and problems are passed to you. Their basic attitude is “Couldn’t care less. It’s your problem, not ours.”
It took 6 days to sort out their payment mess. When I returned to collect the van I found one rear door had been cut open and the vehicle broken into. Causing £2000 in damage.
Again their attitude was “not our problem”. They had left the vehicle on the forecourt, untended and unprotected. Also, they don’t have adequate insurance, so they are keen to pass liability on to you, even when you are not at fault. They disclaimed all responsibility for the damage, despite the fact that it was their card machine failure, insistence on keeping the vehicle, wilful neglect, and criminal acts taking place at their garage that caused it.
They failed to respond to my last email and this, plus the fact they did not report the crime to the police suggests they are covering something up.
When they ran out of lies and evasions in answer to my claim they set their lawyers on me. Clearly, they would rather pay for expensive lawyers to do their dirty work for them than accept responsibility and look after their customers’ property.
This is a rogue operator. Something must be seriously wrong with Ford UK if they are awarding franchises to cowboys like Group1 Auto.
Best avoided, unless you want your vehicle to be handed back to you as a wreck.
