Review summary

Giant Food faces significant criticism from consumers, with many expressing frustration over poor customer service and unhelpful staff. While some reviewers note positive experiences with friendly employees, particularly at specific locations like the one in Haymarket, the overall sentiment is overwhelmingly negative. Customers frequently report rude service, especially at self-checkout stations, and a decline in food quality and availability. Complaints about unstocked advertised items and unresponsive staff further contribute to dissatisfaction. Despite a few positive mentions of certain stores, the prevailing view is that Giant Food has lost its reputation for quality service and products. Overall, the sentiment leans heavily towards disappointment.

This is a great store!

This is a great store. I shop at the giant on Annapolis rd shopping center in Maryland. This Giant is very clean and quiet plus it's not crowded all the time like other stores. U save money here just as much as u save at Walmart most of the time. The fruit and vegetables are always greatlooking, and they always have alot of items on sale.I think this is the best Giant in the area.

Don't Shop at Giant Food Stores

Giant Food Stores are way... too expensive and the prices listed on items, many times are not the price at the register. When trying to eat healthy, please do NOT shop there!

I was a customer for 10 years

I was a customer for 10 years, but I stopped shopping at Giant the about a week ago. For 5 weeks straight I had attempted many times, via the app and website, to redeem my points for dollars of my grocery purchase, but it kept giving me an error message each time. The store I shopped at did not have a gas station and it would have been a waste of gas to drive across town to the other location just to get and use points on gas. After reaching out to customer service each week during those 5 weeks, nothing every got fixed. They had to keep manually redeeming my points for me and IT still hadn't fixed the issue. It became very frustrating and inconvenient. Customer service is only open so long, so I couldn't always reach out and have them redeem my points and with my schedule, the best time for me to go was late. I got tired of it and stopped shopping there. There was no point to continue shopping there when there are other places I could save on groceries and whose apps work. Bye Giant! You lost a customer of 10 years. Maybe if you fixed the issues so customers could actually utilize their points, especially when the only option they have is to use them on groceries, you wouldn't lose customers.

My 97 year old mom needed some food

My 97 year old mom needed some food. I mistakenly thought Giant Food would be a good choice since I live across state. The first time I placed the order which included a $30 promo they didn't like the way the address was put in so they cancelled twelve hours later even though it was correct. I contacted them the next day and they put the order through manually. I used her food stamps. They initially took out $62 from her food stamps but the total was only $41. When I contacted them about the refund they said it was going to be issued to another family members credit card. I argued with them that they were taking food from an elderly woman. They didn't care. They said I should get it back from the family member. My mom didn't get food from a family member, they got it from Giant. They have literally taken food out of the mouth of one of the most vulnerable citizens. And they don't care. This is being reported to the proper authorities.

So Pissed!

So Pissed!! Family got back from vacation in mid July. Wife and I and our oldest kid ended up with Covid. I've never used a deliver service but had no choice since we had no food. Used a couple of different services so the other kids could eat different things. Used Giant and got some products - one of them being eggs. Wife finally feeling being better so she came down and noticed that we received expired eggs. They expired towards the end of June!!

Worst supermarket ever

I parked in the supermarket parking lot and went to the DMV and then the grocery store. Giant hired Advanced Towing to manage its parking lot and Avanced Towing towed my car. When I picked up my car, the woman at Advanced Towing was rude and officious. She didn't care that I had gone into the supermarket and was laughing audibly at my frustration that my car had been towed.

Never Again

The Giant Food located on Edmondson Avenue in Baltimore Maryland, is the absolute pits. My mother and I decided to try this location for the first time, and from the moment we stepped onto the curb outside the market, we knew we'd make a bad decision. There's too much traffic around the market itself and I don't mean the cars. I mean the shady people outside the market just standing around looking like they're there to do transactions that have nothing to do with food. We go into the market and as we're browsing the food, we notice moldy vegetables and fruit just sitting out for purchase. The prices, especially for the state that the food was in, were ridiculous. They had a few freezers that obviously needed repair, one of those freezers had seafood products in it while the freezer wasn't working. I feel bad for whoever bought something outta there. Their registers/aisles are WAY too close together, so that caused some chaos among customers. Unfortunately, my mother and I couldn't buy as much as we usually do at other markets (like Safeway) because we just didn't trust the food. The food we DID buy, we weren't happy with and a few things got trashed without being eaten. To this day we still talk about how horrible this location is. As my mom says, "It's not the Giant she's used to."

CHECK YOUR RECEIPT!!

Review your receipt before leaving the store. almost every time, one of the things advertised has a higher price purchased than in the newspaper. Some weeks, it's two or three things. They count on you NOT checking. Plus, customer service does not open until 9:00 a.m. and I must shop at 7:00. Have had to make a special trip to get things corrected.

KNAPP RD .. MONTGOMERYVILLE,PA

During my March 18, 2021 visit at the Knapp Rd location I asked the employee to ring me up for three cases of water. He asked me where the water is. I told him I will ask customer service to bring it to the front once my order was complete. He said I should have carried it up at check out. I said if I could have done it, I would have. I went to customer service to ask for assistance during my shopping no one was at the counter. He was very insensitive to my plight and we had an exchange. I asked him if he had a number he could call or could he go to the customer restricted area to get help. He said it do not work that way, I said sir you do not have any way of getting in contact with someone to assist me. He said it do not work that way here at giants. He then asked me do you work for Giant’s to tell him how we are supposed to get in touch with customer service. The exchange went down from that point on. The customer service rep eventually walked up and assisted with getting the water. Meanwhile waiting for the water, the cashier kept trying to escalate the situation to get a reaction from me to justify his behavior towards me. I was not pleased with how I was treated so I did my grocery shopping at Walmart on March 29,2021 to avoid the worker because I see the same staff when I do my routine shopping. Fast forward I came to the store this morning April 7, 2021 approximately 7:15 (usual time). I noticed every time I would come out of an aisle that was close to the cashier he would leave his station to appear as if there was no one working and I would go to self-checkout ( assumption… human behavior). So, I decided to do both of us a favor and go to self-checkout. Well that was not a good idea. I asked a question about mix match strawberry / blueberry offer. Before I could complete my sentence, the woman said if that is what it says that is what it is. I stopped, looked her in her face and then excused myself. I left my cart at self-checkout, as I was leaving the area, she attempted damage control and proceeded to get the circular to “assist”. I went to my vehicle called the store while sitting there, explained my experience to the manager and asked for corporate information. I came back into the store and customer service handled the transaction. I do not expect exceptional service however I feel that some staff feel that I am not even worthy of basic customer service. Am I not privileged enough to request basic assistance? I pay attention to a lot of things and I ignore most of it but some of the staff behavior is very blatant and I do not believe it is a representation of the brand. ALL customers should be treated with the same level of respect regardless to staff personal views. I am writing this concern to bring awareness just in case another customer has this experience the pattern will be documented. I will submit reviews to expose the mannerisms of these employees and hopefully the company can use this concern as a teaching moment. I do not have to look handicap, old or any other category to be treated with decency. I choose to spend my hard-earned money at this establishment and I expect to be treated the same as any other customer.

Giant needs to get there act together!

When You go to shop they never have the items on your list. There shelfs are never stocked and you leave with only half the items on you list. I also just bought there fried chicken on 3-2-21 and at least 3 pieces had feathers still attached. GROSS! The pieces also had no meat on them.
