Don't Book

I have taken many big trips with Gate 1, I e. Japan, Africa, etc., however, I planned to do the trip for Thailand, Cambodia & Vietnam in January 2026, but now there's fighting at the border between Thailand and Cambodia, also there is a level 4- DO NOT TRAVEL by the Embassy. Gate1 refuses to give me my $600 deposit back because they said they have not cancelled this trip yet and is monitoring the situation. My thrill is no longer interested in being over there. Gate 1 will not even give a credit, with all my years of traveling with them. How unfortunate.

Misunderstanding regarding visa inclusion

I booked the 16 days Egypt with Jordan tour. On the highlights page it said that Jordan visa is included. I booked my own flights so I called the agent to confirm visa situation. He told me that it is not, since I booked my own flight and airport transfer. He spoke to his manager and assured me this will be remedied by Gate1. After some back and forth emails and review left on this forum, a representative reached to me within hours, and let me know that I will be reimbursed for this due to the misunderstanding. Also, Gate1 will edit the highlights page to avoid future confusions. I changed my review accordingly to reflect this. I’ve had positive experiences with Gate 1 for 10 years. The quality of the packages offered and customer support deserve recognition

Ik wil me geld terug oplichters!!! Gister 800 betaald en slap excuus dat condor de reservering niet konden doorzetten !! Ikke bellen met condor...blijkt lulkoek te wezen!!! Ik ga aangifte doen en eis 10.000 euro schadevergoeding want deze reis was voor een condoleance!!! En nu kunnen we er niet heen omdat ons spaargeld erin zit!!!

Gate1 has changed for the worse

This was my fourth trip with Gate1, and I was very disappointed with how they handled my reservation this trip. My family’s reservation was linked to mine, as I always do when traveling. They made no effort to book our rooms next to or even close to one another this trip. This was very upsetting. We were often in rooms on different floors, towers, or buildings. Something has changed with Gate1, and I'm very disappointed they had so little regard for our accommodations. I don't think I can trust them again with my family’s vacations.

Stay away from Gate 1

Our trip to Ireland with Gate 1 was cancelled last year by the federal government due to COVID. Somehow the fact that the plane never took off was our fault. We were each charged a $200 cancellation fee. Ridiculous. What is worse is Gate 1 never owned keeping the money. They said the airline kept the $$ when we have it in writing from the airline that no fees were assessed to us. Stay away from Gate 1. They are not trustworthy! Do yourself a favor a pick different agency! I love the Gate 1 response. What a joke. It is Aug 2021 and I still do not have a full refund. And to ensure you understand clearly… per the airline IN WRITING there were NO FEES assessed with our tickets!!

Was on the Portugal/Spain trip with…Gate1 travel

Was on the Portugal/Spain trip with Gate 1 travel in March 2020 when we were forced to leave due to the Covid 19 pandemic. Had to fight to get a refund on return airfare from them and their sponsored insurance. Never got it all as the insurance supposedly does not cover panemics. I suggest that one should never buy their insurance. Google and find a trip insurance broker and get your own independent policy from the company that shows you the best coverage for your situation. This was the first time I had ever taken the insurance with the travel company (would't you know a pandemic would hit) and I will never do it again. I will take the time to search through the options on website insure my trip to get a reliable coverage even if it costs a bit more. I shudder to think what fine print their sponsored insurance would use if one had a really serious issue with health or injury on a trip.

Wonderful Gate 1

We had our April 2020 trip to Ireland cancelled and at first I asked for a credit thinking Covid wouldn’t last long. Then in the fall of 2020, I asked and promptly received a refund. We rebooked Ireland for spring 2022. I love Gate 1 and we took three Gate 1 trips in 2019. The guides are excellent, the hotels are amazing and the other guests traveling grew very close on the trip! I cannot wait to travel again and want to travel with Gate 1.

Horrible entity - do not book travel with them

We booked a cruise through Gate 1 travel for April 2020. Because of Covid, we were not able to take the trip. We wanted a refund and the Dept of Transportation helped us to start the process of the refund. The airline tickets were booked through Gate 1 for Air France/Klm. Air France says they refunded the $5600 owed us to Gate 1 on November 28, 2020. Numerous calls to Gate 1 have resulted in “we don’t see the refund money”. I asked them to call Aur France since it was good customer service for them to speak to their business partner and they just keep hemming and hawing about not seeing the refund, if Gate 1 were any legitimate travel agency, they should have a direct contact with Air France and Gate 1 should make it their responsibility to help their customers to get the refund. They have not helped at all. We were avid travelers and have never had such an uncooperative dealing with a travel agency. DO NOT book anything with Gate 1 - they are not a legitimate business since they can not help you should unforeseen circumstances occur. They do NOT stand behind their customers.

5 Stars for 14 trips and how I was handled with 3 cancelled trips

I'm writing a 5 star review because I was SHOCKED to see so many negative reviews for Gate 1. I have used other travel companies but Gate 1 is my first choice and I have booked 14 trips with them. Three of them should have happened in 2020 and one spring 2021. All have been cancelled. It took a while, as expected but I either got my money back or had option to have a credit. I received over 2k back and have similar amount on credit. Hopefully I'll be doing Japan in May of 2022. I'll rebook my other two as soon as I'm comfortable with the status of traveling the world. Gate 1 has great hotels, local guides who are ambassadors for their country/city. You get a people-to-people experience. Options to book extra tours or be on your own as hotels are always centrally located for touring on your own. I LOVE GATE 1. Maybe inexperienced travelers giving so many single stars.

I have travelled 3 times with them. I saw them gradually decline from an ok/ convenient travel provider to a low quality , cheap provider. Most people I know who like half decent travel have dropped them. So if you want more for less, they are for you. They will soon be keeping you in tents overnight

I have taken four trips with Gate 1 and…

I have taken four trips with Gate 1 and have been extremely happy with all of them. All were well organized, professionally led, and budget friendly. I’m amazed at the quality of the hotels and meals provided for the price. In many places, the lodging was unique and had more of a boutique vibe than a chain vibe. For example, one of the hotels in Ecuador had a private hot springs right outside the door of my room. I couldn’t have researched and booked a more extensive and unique tour myself. I’m so looking forward to next year and booking another tour with them.

I have waited 6 months for a $450…

I have waited 6 months for a $450 dollar refund. Just got an email saying they’ve finally sent me a refund, but ‘we’ve deducted $85 for the administration fee’. I don’t know any company that profits from stealing refunded money that doesn’t belong to them. In England it’s illegal. Their communication has been completely automated responses for 6 months, and no contact number available. I’ve never had such a terrible and criminal service. I really needed all my money back. So angry and disappointed.

I bookeda holiday in September with gate one the company vieling authorised a refund for my flight cancellec gate 1 have still not responded or payed me back my money please do not use this company they will blame it on the airline but they are the ones in charge of returning are money

Do not let the low price deter you from experiencing what this first class company has to offer!

I will preface my comments by letting you know I am a travel agent. I discovered Gate 1 Travel in late 2015. I could not believe the prices for the trips I reviewed. I decided to give them a try before I booked clients which is my usual pattern. We booked a trip to China between Thanksgiving and Christmas 2015. We were visiting our Daughter and Family out of state and I thought it was silly to fly back home and turn around a couple of weeks later and fly back, so I found this Gate 1 trip to China. This was a 10 day trip with 8 nights of hotels in Beijing and Shanghi, all transfers, air from LA to Beijing, Beijing to Shanghi, Shanghi to Beijing and then back to LA for a price of $799 each. I was extremely skeptical with such a low price and did some checking on the company and could not find any issues. So, we gave it a shot. Additionally we booked 7 outstanding excursions for a total of $323 each and were in a small group of less than 30. The hotels were outstanding (4 & 5 Star), the tour guide was exceptional, the tours were on par or better than other much higher end tours, the transfers were seamless. The entire trip was off the charts of my expectation. Since this first trip, we have made numerous trips with Gate 1 and booked many clients with Gate 1. All of us have come away with how can they provide a top quality experience at such a fantastic price? I am still scratching my head over this but also booking with them as often as possible. I am so pleased that we took a chance and discovered a true Gem in the world of Travel. They are no doubt the best bang for your travel dollar. All of my interactions with Gate 1 staff while booking trips or on a trip have been excellent. They truly understand customer service as well as providing an unbelievable cost effective travel opportunity. I strongly recommend them to all of my Family, Friends and Clients. Do not let the low price deter you from experiencing what this first class company has to offer!
