Fantastic experience

I had a fantastic experience with this rental service! The SUV was clean, modern, and in excellent condition. The customer service was outstanding—friendly, professional, and very helpful throughout the process. The rental was also very affordable, which made the experience even better. Everything went smoothly from start to finish. Highly recommend and I would definitely rent from them again!

still owed $400 NZ

It has now been five months since we returned the hor4e car from these people. We were charged (at pickup) an extra $400 which was taken from our account via Debit card.we were told that if the car was full of fuel on return the our deposit would be returned within 48 hrs. we have on a nu7mber of occasions contacted this company both in person and via the agent. although promises of action were offered nothing has transpired . Flippancy at the time of return and a reluctance to view the contract I Proffered. I cannot decide whether this result is because of Disrespect, Lethargy or Incompetence. Strongly advise any prospective customers to be wary of what you pay at the time of pickup. No doubt after five months of trying I can whistle my $400 goodbye. Bryn

Avoid! Ezi Car Rental relies on luring customers in with cheap rates, then extorting them at the end of the rental period.

Edit: A manager had agreed to keep the $400 bond instead of charging $4999 after I made this review (as per their response). I was also sent another photo of the side of the car where you cannot see the part where the scratch is below the rear left door (in the photo) - but there are other scratches alongside it, indicating that it was there before I had hired it. There are many, many previous reviews from people who have been scammed by Ezi Car Rental. They are relying on customers who will leave the country and not be willing to fight back once they return home. Regarding their response around liability - $4999 is the maximum Ezi Car Rental can charge, and cannot automatically be taken out unless they believe the cost of the repair will be that high - which a scratch would not be. If this has happened to you, and you are still in New Zealand, you can take them to the Disputes Tribunal. I also recommend making a complaint to the Commerce Commission regardless. I had the worst experience with Ezi Car Rental at Christchurch Airport. I chose them because they were a third of the cost of other rental companies - which should have been a red flag. I used to work for a similar car rental company at Christchurch Airport, and while I didn’t always agree with certain policies, we never scammed customers the way Ezi Car Rental has tried to scam me (and, based on other reviews, many others). I rented a car for three days while visiting home. My partner has an accent, and I believe Ezi Car Rental targeted us as unsuspecting tourists. When I picked up the car, I was rushed through the process and told to sign a blank condition report without being given the chance to inspect the vehicle. The staff member assured me she had done it herself before I arrived. The car already had minor wear and tear, but since it was a budget rental, I didn’t expect it to be in perfect condition. When I returned the car, there was no inspection at all - just a quick key drop-off. A staff member told me to throw out all of the forms I had signed and said they didn’t need a fuel receipt to confirm the tank was full. A day later, I received an email claiming I had caused a scratch on the rear door - something I was never made aware of - and that they had tried to charge me $4999 (the insurance excess). They provided no proof beyond a photo that could have been taken at any time. I had already paid them a $400 bond when booking. I immediately disputed the claim and asked them to provide three quotes from reputable garages or to accept the $400 bond as a full and final settlement to avoid dragging out the issue. Instead of addressing my concerns, they simply sent another email stating I owed them $4599. This company relies on luring customers in with cheap rates, then extorting them at the end of the rental period. I have filed a complaint with the Commerce Commission and would urge others to avoid this company at all costs.

Tusen takk!

Great service by Chi

There was a queue when we arrived at the Christchurch Airport counter. The team was friendly and easy to talk to. A staff named Chi noticed we waited for a while for the pickup, she then made some great arrangements for us. We were very impressed. Chi deserves praises for her great customer service skills.

Car Hire - Auckland; car fine, lots of hidden charges

I hired a car from Auckland to Auckland. The car was okay and clean. The collection process took longer than it maybe should but again acceptable. Please beware that this company does charge undisclosed ''administration fees'' for a variety of things. In my instance, the administration fee was 3 x the price of the actual charge, but hey, it's there in tiny print in a huge contract that they can charge undisclosed / non specified ''administration fees'' for anything so tough luck. Just be wary! They also don't include a Collision Damage Waiver (CDW) as a matter of course - it is at an extra cost, so if you are using external insurance, you will be forced to buy this as an extra in most cases.

If I could do zero I would

If I could do zero I would. Before returning car to Beach Rd Auckland I filled it up across the road. My credit card was then charged to put more petrol in by Ezi not once but twice. When I queried they said it needed 2 litres of petrol on the day a returned it and when they checked again the next morning the fuel gauge had gone down again requiring another 2 litres. I have requested a refund and have to date not received any response other than I have sent to my manager. Your manager never reached out to me

5 negative experiences in one rental means one star

I rented a car from Ezi Car for 6 days just after Christmas 2024. The total cost was 1,235$ (attached). I will never rent from Ezi Car Rental again due to 5 main reasons. I hope this review is useful to you if you are considering renting a vehicle from them 1. Incorrect advice – Due to withholding of relevant information I ended up paying around 250$ more than I should have for this rental I did complain to the customer service person who apologised but the cost was not adjusted 2. Only focus is getting maximum money – When returning the car , I had to drop off the car with between quarter and half a tank of petrol. I couldn’t fill it up as my daughter was unwell and I had to rush. I spoke to the customer service person on their 0800 number. Despite this , they charged me 159$ (attached). If I had filled it , it would have cost me a maximum of 70$. I requested several times whether they can consider charging me 75$ under the circumstances (my daughter being unwell) . They absolutely refused 3. Unauthorised/duplicated charging of my credit card – Not only did they charge a huge penalty rate for the petrol but they took money off the credit card twice (attached). After complaining they did reverse it but if I had not noticed it, they would have effectively charged me over 310$ for just over half a tank of petrol 4. No regard for the customer - They don’t seem at all bothered about getting repeat customers. During several calls to them about the petrol and charges I got the strong impression that they don’t care if you rent from them again. So, they will get the maximum from you on the first go. 5. Carelessness – Two of the tyres were underinflated and the right front was significantly so. My partner pumped air before we started our journey but its something Ezi should have looked into. Having said all this, the car itself was great and we were very happy with it. However, the amount of stress and cost that was caused to me by renting from Ezi Car rental means that I will never rent from them again!

IM45629684 is the booking number

IM45629684 is the booking number. I called today asked 2 operators for the exact address to pick up the car. The male operator kept saying beach road Auckland city. I mentioned google shows the pick up yard is in castor bay, Milford. The operator could not tell me exactly what suburb. I get out there Beach Road Castor Bay. No yard. 5pm the yard closes. I needed the car tonight not tomorrow. I have emailed my complain and asked for reimbursement. Hey don't book through this call centre the 3rd party. Try and go directly to the main company.

Check your credit card after using their service!

After I wrote my review on Ezi Rental Car yesterday. I found that my credit card has been over charged for $52.87, compared the their invoice through bookings. The amount is exactly equals to the AMT PD item, that has been deducted from the invoice. So please check your credit card even after returning the car, they may overcharge you again!!!! Unfortunately, I cannot upload any photo. Formal complaint already lodged to COMCOM, with all credit card transactions, email contents and invoice.

Had much difficulty when coming to the Auckland airport branch. They refused to accept the European Union international issued drivers license and claimed that it needed to be translated and charging 59$ per license. This has NEVER been a problem anywhere in the world for us and NEVER a problem before in New Zealand. This is a very disappointing start to our vacation which we have been looking forward to for a whole year with our family. Smells of greed and scam. Please NZ tourists industry do not go down this road.

Wouldn’t even have given them one star

Wouldn’t even have given them one star Vehicle booked in UK months earlier with certain spec required On arrival at Christchurch NZ airport for pick up just given keys and sent to car pick up point. There found a vehicle that did not have any form of sat nav and didn’t appear to have the spec we had ordered. Useless female in cabin hadn’t a clue about the vehicle operation so went back to airport reception and told most vehicles don’t have sat nav and nothing else available so after a stand off was told there was a vehicle that was a Hybrid Ford but was in a different price group so was forced to take the then offered vehicle at another £150 Their point was that most of their cars don’t have sat nav’s as it costs too much to maintain them up to date and you have to specify you want one otherwise rely on your phone which we couldn’t Everyone in reception were totally unhelpful and couldn’t care less about customer care and made no effort to resolve our situation other than charging us more for more or less the same thing in another car. The story is make sure you book absolutely everything you need for your hire and if wanting a sat nav that’s essential them make sure that’s part of the agreement and you have everything covered otherwise you will fall into the same situation just when you’re at you’re most vulnerable at the airport. Even when we emailed their customer relations a few days later they got the wrong car details and gave a lame excuse then eventually became judge and jury in their rip off system once we had outlined their errors and not prepared to have the feedback we sent. Use another company as these lot might appear to be fractionally cheaper but not when adjustments have to be made. 13.2.25 Despite contacting the CEO of this company and making the booking direct the he only came back to acknowledge this issue and never replied further. Most travellers expect a sat nav and not reliant on mobile phones and other technology they have to carry themselves. The booking was done direct with Ezi and the specifications don’t cover a lot of things such as what’s been described so it’s an easy get out for them to say when you arrive at the airport and find cars with no sat nav to upgrade you at another £150/$300 at the airport to have transport in a country for only 4 days I would never use them again and find their service at the airport and customer services and even their CEO to have no concern for customers at their most vulnerable when travelling from the other side of the world. Not Ezi at all👎👎👎👎👎👎

Take a torch and check your windscreen.

Take a torch and check your windscreen. I took a car from Auckland airport. It was collected from a dim underground area when it had been raining- so waterdrops on screen. I checked the bodywork etc and took pic and was assured that what was in there was small damages and not relevant. When we left the car park it was raining. When the raining stopped an hour in we noticed a mark on the screen. Took a picture as we had with the other damage. On return they decided we had chipped the windscreen charged me $5000 on my card and now are telling me it won’t be resolved for 6-9 weeks. At that point they will refund me the balence. I can fix a windscreen at home in 24 hrs for less than $250. I have insurance bought through the booking agent not through ezi rental they wanted to charge me 380 for that. Which was more than a third of cost of rental. This means I will need to wait that long to claim back my excess and get the refund from the balance. So take a torch and check your car if renting with them and make sure you double check if it’s raining. Currently they are ignoring the photo proof I took - Presumably because it was an hour into the journey.

Scammers!

Scammers!! Advise take a video or photos of every damage on your rental vehicle with Ezi car at Auckland airport, lucky I did that for proof, after dropping the car off, we got back home to Australia the next day we see $1800 taken out of our credit card from them without even notifying us first, rang them and an arrogant Indian lady tried telling us we damaged a wheel rim and we are lucky they haven’t taken $6000 as was in the agreement, I told her I had proof and requested an immediate refund but she would not do it because we had not done our insurance with them.. nothing but excuses then she hung up on me, rang them back and we got someone else who says that it was a scratch on the door handle this time not the wheel rim.. she sent through the photo while we were with her on the phone and I recognised that on our trip and could see that it had been hand painted over they obviously knew about this damage, I sent through my photo of that same door handle with the date on it the day we arrived to pick it up and it was exactly the same they finally refunded our money, changed my credit card as I did not want them having my details, be very careful ful and make sure that you get them to look it over with you when you return it, they know their damages in their cars and they try to scam other customers to pay for it.. never again..
