Review summary

Ezi Car Rental receives a mixed reception from customers, with a significant number expressing dissatisfaction. While some reviewers praise the service quality and the condition of the vehicles, noting friendly and helpful staff, many others report serious issues. Common complaints include unexpected charges, particularly related to credit card overcharges and hidden fees, leading to feelings of being extorted. Customers also mention long wait times for vehicle pickup and inadequate support from staff during the rental process. Despite a few positive experiences highlighting great service, the overwhelming sentiment reflects frustration and distrust, particularly regarding billing practices. Overall, the majority of reviews indicate a negative experience with Ezi Car Rental.

Ezi Car Rentals Auckland Airport

Ezi Car Rentals Auckland Airport I would give them a minus five stars if I could. Absolutely inept with zero care factor.

We don't recommend

We would give no star if possible. We furnished them with all our flight details when we booked. Unfortunately our flight ( with several other flights) was delayed into Christchurch. When we finally arrived at Ezi Car Rentals we were horrified to find they had already left for the day without giving us any plan B. We ended up ( both in our 60's) spending a very uncomfortable night sleeping at the airport waiting for them to reopen the next day. To date we still have not had an apology. DO NOT USE

Superb hire company

Having read a number of negative reviews about Ezi I decided to avoid them despite being the cheapest option. I used a third party broker and ended up with Ezi. I was not looking forward to it…. But then I arrived at their desk at Auckland airport and received the most efficient, professional service I have received from a hire car company in more than two decades of travelling the globe. From start to finish the customer service was great and the car was exactly as expected. The return process was just as good and I’m now sat in International Departures happy I used Ezi. Well done!

YOU WILL REGRET

I have an extremely BAD experience with EZI Car Rental. After returning the car at the airport, the staff claimed that there's a minor scratch and charged me 1000NZD despite the fact that I have purchased a full coverage insurance. They said we have agreed the excess ($4999.00) if any damage were to occur. That means it would be better if I have gone for a car crash. Never go for EZI Car Rental. Worst experience so far.

The worst experience start to finish

The worst experience start to finish. I rented in Orlando Florida - we had to wait for 45 minutes for a shuttle to offsite and then another hour+! to get a vehicle. The car we received was unclean, stained and had tint from the windows coming off. I would never ever use this company

Exactly as advertised

Made a booking for February in September: received an almost new car that was exactly equivalent to what we'd booked (small car, hybrid). In excellent condition with superb customer service whenever I encountered them.

Well done, Ezi car hire

The online booking process was easy. The pick up of a car from Queenstown airport was simple and efficient. The car we hired was terrrifc, and the return process was seamless

A good news story

Wow. Couldn't get over the number of bad reviews. We booked through Economy Car Rentals and chose a Toyota Corolla. When we arrived the desk was unattended but there was a phone number to ring and the agent arrived in a couple of minutes. We had decided to upgrade and was offered a Mitsubishi Outlander for a very reasonable cost.which turned out to be much more suitable. We had two drivers - one with a nz license and one with a UK license and had no problems there. The agent was friendly and extremely helpful and advised us we would be leaving the key in a dropbox which we found no problem. The car was lovely and clean and everything worked like a charm. We didn't have any incidents (stone chips or other accidents) and have had no further charges to the credit card. For us it was a perfect hire.

Don’t pick them

Not clear where to pick it up. Nobody at the office. Don’t accept the strivers license and tell us it is a requirement by law yet it isn’t and other companies don’t. Most incompetent and inflexible car company I came acrid in 15 years of regular travel

Use this company at your own risk.

Use this company at your own risk. Booked and paid well in advanced with full insurance for a week booking - pickup at Queenstown. No terms and conditions suppled by Travel Agent. Upon arrival for pickup - accepted electronic NSW (Australia) license but then refused to supply car without physical credit card. Even though it was fully paid for. 60 minute return taxi ride to the Airport. Upon second pickup attempt, I presented my CC and explained to the arrogant manager that this was the worst customer service I have ever experienced (far from Ezi). He then refused to supply the car and fulfil the booking. Never Never again!

Beware scam charges

Pickup went well and the car drove nice enough. Haval Jolion hybrid. Would recommend going for a different vehicle. Car was filled up as far as it would allow, 100 metres before the drop off point, yet I was charged $55 for 3.8L fuel because "the car wasn't full". Clearly, the vehicle's fuel gauge was defective, and this is something ezi likely already knew, as I am not the first person to reflect this in a review. They refused to acknowledge this and engage in a proper conversation. Recommend avoiding at all (unexpected, yet now entirely expected, excessive) costs.

Stay clear from this company!!

Car booked for 7 days including full insurance. Used only for 6 days. The refused to give me a refund for the 1 day including insurance. The car was not for 1 day used so they do not even refund me the insurance for something I did not use. This is theft. Stay well clear from this company!!

Total scam

We rented a car for a few days from Palmerston North airport. We filled the car up to full with 95 octane fuel (as per ezi rentals request) and provided a receipt for filling up the fuel. Despite that they charged $26 as extra claiming that the fuel guage was not above the full mark. Total scam. This is just plain thieving

A very bad experience with this…

A very bad experience with this company. Avoid! Extortion on the costs compared with other car rental suppliers. We hired through this company as we wanted to hire kiwi and support local. Unfortunately we should have known better. At Christchurch airport we picked up the hire car on a quick trip to Queenstown. Unfortunately hidden in the fees was a car return drop fee of $600. We had expected a return fee of some reasonable amount but this turned out to be more than three times the amount of other competing companies such as Avis and hertz ($170-180) or even kiwi Omega who charge $0. Any explanation offered was basically reinforcing the exorbitant fees and no consideration given to travellers.

Left a bitter taste

The whole experience of the hire car from the person who serviced me when I collected the car to the person who I returned the keys too was amazing and easy going. But the service when trying to retrieve my bond back was utterly awful. I contacted Ezi car rentals car was returned on 18/04 and car was full no damage etc so waiting on the bond to be released back to me. Waited 10 days so followed up with the rental car place they told me the pre - auth funds were cancelled on 18/04 and allow 3-5 business days to reflect. Still nothing but a pending charge. I contacted my bank who informed me that they require information from the merchant and proved the information to hand onto the merchant. Basically Reese said “ The cancellation of the bond has been processed. We have released the bond on our end. The cancellation receipt does include all of the details requested. Kind regards Reese” So now that they won’t do anything I now have to wait 31 days for my bank to release those funds although it takes Ezi Car rentals one second to hold the funds. Appalling service.

Discovered a $200 charge on my card…

Discovered a $200 charge on my card days after returning the rental. Bewildered as to why (car returned refuelled, no rubbish and no damage). No communication from the company and no answer to email or their survey which disconnected when I ticked that I want a call from their company. I have used them many times in the past but have since discovered from reading reviews that there are many similar complaints of fraudulent charges from this company in the last 12 months.

Terrible Third Party Rental Car Broker

This is a terrible rental car third party broker. They use questionable companies like NU Car Rental in Phoenix, AZ. Then, when the rental car is defective, they blame the rental car facility or say your "expectations are too high" when all you really want is functioning seats and head rests not sticking you in the neck because they don't stay in position. Their ace customer service manager did not even apologize for the inconvenience or the bad experience. He just blamed it on our too high expectations. How he ever got to be in customer service is a mystery because he doesn't know the first thing about it.

Awful experience with Ezi car rental in…

Awful experience with Ezi car rental in Auckland Intl airport. Unpleasant service stuff told us they had no car available (that we booked 3 months in advance). They had our booking in their system but since we booked via a third party company they refused to help us and instead forwarded us to solve our issue ourselves regarding reimbursement with the third party company. It gave us a bad start for our holidays with a 2 hour delay. Ended up renting from Avis. Horrible people (arrogant Indian guy) and service culture at Ezi. Never again!

This company is a disgrace

This company is a disgrace. Ripping off renters with a fuel charge scam. The vehicle was completely filled with fuel on return. My family had time-stamped photos and receipts provided to the company show that it was full 2 minutes prior to checking the vehicle in. After leaving the country they charged $72.35, claiming the vehicle was only 3/4 full and they had a photo of the fuel gauge to prove it. DO NOT USE Ezi Scam Car Rentals!

Disgusting!

Absolute disgrace. I rented a car with them in Auckland, returned it and received my check out report and all was well, had my bond refunded. An hour later i receive a different check out report with supposed damage to the windscreen and 856 NZD was taken from my card.. how do you go from check out a car with no damage with the customer present to charging them later against 'new damage'. Pretty sure the ability to reopen a already closed account is illegal? Completely fraudulent company, would not recommend hiring a car from them.
