I’ve only put 1 star because there was no option for No stars We recently received a parking fine from Manchester airport in a hired vehicle from Europcsr. The fine was £60 rising to £100 if not paid within 14 days from the date of the charge. Europcar forwarded us the fine a month later together with a £33 admin fee which they are refusing to waive - despite the fact it’s their fault our fine increased by £40

    Outright theft of 240 pounds

Awful experience, would never use again. They outright robbed me of 240 pounds. Car door was damaged upon pick up but strangely it wasnt already noted in the system when I returned the car. Got back home to Australia to find additional charge of 240 pounds on my card for additional products that I was supposedly offered at the desk. That is 100 per cent a lie. The assistant Ilias never offered me any extra products or services and I certainly never agreed to any. He must have ticked additional boxes on the paperwork without telling me. He kept me waiting for 10 minutes to serve me when there was no one else waiting. Waiting area was dirty . Have contacted the customer services team only to be told my request to a refund for their outright robbery has been refused. Would never ever hire a car from them again. Complete theft of 240 pounds.

    Ridiculous Rules

We went through the lengthy process of signing up, choosing to have the car delivered as we are staying on a campsite near Birmingham for our holiday. Supplied all the relevant documents (drivers licence proof of address etc) and paid the fees. We got an email confirmation and all was good. Then we got a call to say they cannot deliver to a campsite, no idea what difference that makes but nothing they could do. Sounds bizarre as Europcar surely have many holidaying customers who would love to use this service. Europcar have missed a trick and wont be getting my custom again. We have gone elsewhere now

The company over charged us for mileage (by double the amount we actually drove!)

The company over charged us for mileage. We disputed a month ago and no response. Now we are receiving 'final notices' on payment. I have tried to contact the customer service and no response. I called the collection team and they there is nothing they can do but to pursue. I have now raised the issue with BVRLA. Hopefully, will be resolved, but we will not be using them again.

Appalling customer service - REJECT NEW BUSINESS

IMPOSSIBLE TO CONTACT IPSWICH BRANCH OF EUROPCAR. ALL CALLS INTERVENED BY "OVERSEAS CALL CENTRE" WHICH THEN CANNOT HELP. EUROPCAR CUSTOMER SERVICES ARE USLESS. NEVER EVER WILL WE RENT AGAIN FROM EUROPCAR. SIMPLY APPALLING. 1. Filled in online form to have rental car delivered to my home. Useless IT system kept saying car would have to be fetched from Ipswich even though same document stated car would be delivered to my house. 2. Sent email to "customer services" stating I wanted to give Europcar more business. Got response saying it would be TEN DAYS before I would get a reply. TERRIBLE. SHOCKINGLY BAD. AVOID - NEVER USE. DIRE.

    Just avoid...

What went right is the real question... Hired a van on the phone with a customer service agent who told me the van was available in the chosen location. After booking on the phone and paying for the van, i shortly (within 30 mins of booking) received a voice message call to say the van wasn't available. I called in after waiting on 30 mins on hold to be told that they will cancel my booking. Having not received a fund and having sent 8 emails, called in multiple times to be placed on hold for 30 mins for them to hand up on 5 occaisions im still yet to receive a refund. I then got an email to say i have been charged a no show fine on top of that... so im now further in with this. Continuing to make contact with no help from their customer service and emails still yet to be answered... No resolution so far and i'm continuing to chase...

I hired a car Shocking Pricing & Nonexistent Customer Support — BE AWAREfrom Europcar for 10 days…

I hired a car from Europcar for 10 days at a cost of £380. Almost immediately after booking, I realised I needed the car for 12 days instead. I phoned their call centre and was told not to amend the booking — just to call back once I had the car, and they’d add the extra 2 days at £38 per day. Sounds simple, right? It wasn’t. Two days into the hire, I called to extend the booking by 2 days — exactly as instructed — and was told I’d have to pay £420. That’s more than the original £380 for 10 days, just for 2 more days! Even more outrageous, I checked online and the same car was available for £170 over the same 2-day period. When I asked why, I was told the only option was to return the vehicle all the way back to Edinburgh Airport (a 140-mile round trip for me), start a new booking, and drive off again — all for something I was told could be handled over the phone for an additional £80 total. I raised this as a complaint and was told to contact the Edinburgh depot directly. After 5 separate attempts and 5 hours on hold over 2 days, I gave up — which I suspect is exactly what they count on. I went back to the main number and asked to speak with customer service, only to be told: “It’s what the computer says — there’s nothing we can do.” Absolutely disgraceful service, zero accountability, and pricing that borders on predatory. BE AWARE before booking with Europcar. Reservation number: 1191262518

    Overcharging ruined experience

The pick-up experience was fine except I'd hired a golf ( or equivalent) and none were available, so was supposedly given an upgrade to an MG ZS hybrid SUV. This was the worst car I've ever driven. Gears would unexplainable kick down and brakes grabbed. Very unpleasant to drive. Also, I was told Heathrow vehicle return was open 24 hours. I had a 6.30am international flight, so wanted to drop-off at 4am. Unfortunately, not a sole there except, after much searching the property, a security guard who said just leave car with keys in it. Felt very uncomfortable about this but had no choice. Then the most disappointing fact was the overcharging that hit my bank account with no explanation. My travel agent investigated and after reviewing a very confusing contract, it appears for some reason Europcar charged me for 28 days of insurance, rather than the 17 days of the rental, plus a random licencing fee I'd already paid. My travel agent has submitted a refund request but I'm told it will take up to 21 days to process even if Europcar accept the claim. Europcar need to simplify contract, explain fees and then not overcharge after the event. Also, if the Heathrow returns are advertised as open 24 hours then someone needs to be there to accept cars. Not good enough Europcar. It's little wonder your customer ratings are so low.

Do not rent a car from Europcar

Do not rent a car from Europcar without being fully informed. They are overcharging customers. If you receive a traffic fine, they will charge you a £45 handling fee on top of the fine itself. When I arrived, they told me the car I had booked was not available and pressured me into paying for an upgrade

    Do not use this company!!

We were given a car (after a long wait, because they got the collect time wrong) at Cork airport, which had 9 defects listed and 65, 000 miles on the clock. After 3 days of use, the car broke down. We had great diffuculty in contacting Europcar, too much to detail here, but in the end we had to pay our own taxi for a long distance journey to pick up another car. We then received an email to say the snapping of a gear cable was DRIVER ERROR. Europcar have now taken over £500 from our Visa account and refuse to reimburse us for our expenses.

I was the victim of a very well…

I was the victim of a very well practiced con trick by the desk staff at Faro airport. After I booked the car in the UK, I phoned Europcar and asked if they sold damage waiver Insurance (I normally buy it separately online). I was told that it wasn't necessary as all their cars were fully covered under the rental agreement. At the Faro desk, I agreed to pay for a vehicle upgrade, and they asked me for a large amount of deposit to cover damage. Realising that I did need damage waiver, I told them I was just going buy the damage waiver online for £42 for the 8 days i needed. The desk staff said they would sell it to me for £24, so I accepted. When my credit card bill came through, they had charged me £24 a day! They also charged me around an extra £50 to collect the car! I have phoned and written to complain, but they don't care. Of course they don't - it's their way of operating - deceitfuly. I'm really dissapointed, I thought they were a reputable company 😔

    Awful service...

Awful service.... Rang to say they have no cars after I'd booked online. Same thing happened two weeks ago after booking on line and paying my rental... When I pointed this out, they then proceed to say they do have a car....... Made my way by taxi over there (£15)....only to be told that after doing a credit check(which I wasn't previously told about) I'd failed, so couldn't rent a car after all 😡😡😡😡

    Beware of Europcar

Nothing much to add over all the other negative reviews on here. I hired a car from these criminals in Ireland, filled the car up at the airport petrol station and dropped it off full. Received a bill the following day for 30 euros for not returning with a full tank. Customer service is non existent with these people and they just take the money off your credit card, nothing you can do. I am challenging this on the Resolver website. I will never use this company again and I suggest anyone reading this so the same, this company is run terribly and will give you nothing but stress.

Avoid Europcar Stansted at All Costs

Avoid Europcar Stansted at All Costs – Scam Artists! I booked a car through Ryanair for €150, thinking I was getting a fair deal. Once I arrived at the Europcar desk at Stansted, the nightmare began. They tried every trick in the book to confuse me and inflate the price – hidden fees, invented extras, unclear explanations. It felt like I was being hustled in a market stall, not a professional rental company. In the end, I ended up paying three times the original price just to add a second driver and get full coverage – things that should have been clear and reasonably priced from the beginning. This is not just bad service – it’s borderline fraud. Run away from Europcar Stansted. Don’t fall into the same trap.
