Review summary

Crunch Fitness receives overwhelmingly negative feedback from its customers, with many expressing frustration over deceptive membership practices and difficulties in canceling subscriptions. Reviewers frequently mention being trapped in contracts that are not clearly explained during enrollment, leading to feelings of being scammed. Complaints about overcharging and poor customer service are prevalent, with some members reporting exorbitant fees just to cancel their memberships. However, a few positive reviews highlight the quality of staff and the variety of classes offered, with some praising the friendly atmosphere and available equipment. Despite these rare commendations, the overall sentiment is dominated by dissatisfaction regarding membership management and facility issues.

AVOID THE HEADACHE OF ENROLLING AT CRUNCH FITNESS

So I tried to enroll at Crunch Fitness (Newark, DE) location during their "$1 down, 2 months free" deal. I tried for almost 1.5 hours online. The website is terrible, and kept changing my location. Anyway, It also rejected 2 working credit cards, and 1 debit card. The deal got extended so I tried again the next day at the gym itself. I tried one of their tablets, and a computer. Didnt work there either. Tried multiple cards again, and other people were having similar issues. Staff told me "that the systems must be crashing from this incredible deal". I asked if they could just do it manually, and the staff member said he could but it would be more $ down, and only 1 month free. I was like no thats not what I want. Then the staff member asked if I was planning to work out, and I said yes. Although, he then said "well I guess I can let you work out today" like its some favor to let me work out since your systems dont work. So he calls the GM (Madi) who tells him that they will get in touch with a member of the marketing team who will send a contract to me to do manually the next day or so. THAT NEVER HAPPENED. Nevertheless, i tried to do register one more time the next day online, which didnt work either. (So i tried 3 different days, over about 2 hours just to enroll). I then emailed Madi at least 4-5 times over the next week so I could come in, and do it at the gym like they had said. We kept missing each other, and finally when I had days off, I emailed her and I asked if I could come in. Then she says "oh well the $1 down 2 months free deal is gone, but you can do the $5 down and 2 weeks free". So THEY WONT EVEN HONOR A PROMISE TO ME TO FIX IT. So no, im done with this gym, which is a shame bc its a nice space; but I HAVE NEVER HAD THIS MANY PROBLEMS WITH ANYTHING ONLINE. Nor a staff or a manager who seem to know nothing about how to sign someone up for a well.... gym membership. Ill stay at Planet Fitness where I never had an issue. Its a little more expensive, but never had one problem that couldnt be fixed quickly. Can you imagine trying to fix a billing problem with these people? More or less trying to cancel a membership??? Incompetent staff and manager, and it seems like these issues are gym wide. 500+ reviews with a 1.8 star average, and 78% negative! What a joke. AVOID!!!!!!

Overcharged $540

I signed up for weight training at $180 per month. They told me I had to sign up for a minimum of 2 months, which I did. I used my Visa card. I did the training in September and October 2025. I told my trainer at the end of October that I was happy with the training, and I was not going to continue. I was surprised to find a $180 charge from Crunch when I paid my credit card for December, and when I looked at my November statement, I saw that they charged me $180 for that month too. (I missed it when I paid November's credit card bill.) I called the gym to ask for a refund, they said no. They said they would cancel my weight training charges going forward. This is the kicker - they CHARGED ME ANOTHER $180 IN JANUARY 2026! I'm trying to get a refund of that charge,

The lockers by the front desk are mostly either locked or broken. Paper towel towels in the dispensers consistently run out on Tuesday. Half of the TV screens are tuned to Fox News, the station of the pedophile in chief which makes it difficult to use the stationary cycle. It is depressing. Then I find that the crunch owner ship is cooperating with ice according to news report who may apparently come in and harass members if they choose. I see no point in discussing pros. Just don’t blame the employees. It is the business owner‘s fault.

Do NOT I REPEAT DO NOT join this gym

Do NOT I REPEAT DO NOT join this gym! They trick you into a 90 day contract meaning you cannot cancel before the 90 days, this is hidden during registration. The customer service reps have to be the rudest reps I have ever engaged with. I was told I cannot cancel my membership, the rep then kept talking over me, he kept trying to shut me up, he had the rudest tone. I registered for the trial and got tricked into a contract now I have to get an attorney to cancel a GYM MEMBERSHIP? We tried the gym in Lynchburg we visited only twice due to the terrible customer service, the associates at the front desk NEVER ACKNOWLEDGED me, we walked in and were not greeted due to the associates being on their phones or having conversations, the second day we stood at the counter for a minute or so while the two associates sat on there phones. We wanted to give them a chance but just go to planet fitness this gym is a rip off.

Corporate Practices Are Predatory and Deceptive

I want to be clear upfront: the staff and facility at my local Crunch location were consistently friendly, patient, and professional. This review is not about them. It is about Crunch Fitness’ corporate billing and cancellation practices. Over the course of a year, I was billed multiple months plus an annual fee. Prior to six months of international travel, I coordinated account freezes exactly as instructed. Because freezes are limited to short intervals, I had to call repeatedly from overseas to maintain compliance— an inconvenience, but one I accepted in good faith. Upon returning home, I decided to cancel due to continued logistical barriers. I explicitly requested cancellation and a refund for two months that should have been frozen. I was told this was handled— and I did receive the refunds. Those refunds served as my confirmation that the matter was resolved. I even removed the reminder from my phone to keep calling and freezing the membership, because at that point, the account should have been fully canceled. Months later, I was charged again. I was then told the account had been frozen, not canceled— despite previously being told I was “good to go” and despite the fact that a refund had already been issued. Different phone calls produced different explanations. Managers were consistently away, follow-ups were promised but never delivered, and written confirmation was never provided— something I accepted at the time because the refunds reasonably indicated cancellation. A manager named June was exceptionally patient, kind, and professional. However, she made it clear that managers no longer have the authority to issue refunds under Crunch’s updated policies, regardless of circumstances. Let that sink in: a gym manager cannot correct billing errors or resolve legitimate disputes. June escalated my case over a month ago. There has been no response. Charges have continued. This is not a mistake— it is a system designed to exhaust customers until they give up. In fair and reasonable business practice, companies understand that life happens. People travel. Circumstances change. Errors occur. Ethical companies acknowledge that, apologize, and fix the issue. Crunch Fitness does the opposite. You are treated as a billing record, not a human being. The gym itself is clean, friendly, and welcoming. Corporate, however, operates in a way that is deceptive and predatory. Be prepared to play chess if you ever need to cancel: block them as a merchant, file chargebacks, gather written evidence, and escalate to consumer protection agencies if necessary. Signing up is easy. Cancellation is a war. Please don’t just take my word for it— read your local gym's reviews. Sort by recent or 1-star. Look on Reddit. You’ll notice a pattern. The positive reviews largely come from people who haven’t tried to cancel yet.

Crunch fitness is a horrible place for…

Crunch fitness is a horrible place for senior citizens number one when I joined they said they were going to offer silver sneakers classes with certified instructors. They never did. They still charged me the annual fee then they put my account on hold for three months and they were going to try to get the classes. They never got the classes then now they charging me a $34 cancellation fee and another $34 for the 30 day notice for cancellation they promised us on sign up they were going to have silver sneakers classes with certified instructors. Well they broke their promise yet they are not giving any type of retribution to us. This place is a scam, rip off racket, etc. if you are a senior citizen, do not let them say they have silver sneakers, certified instructors because the gym I have here in Marrero Louisiana does not even though they said they would when I signed up so it’s false advertisement.

They make it impossible to cancel

I signed up at the Crunch gym in Savannah GA. But a year later I moved to NY where I no longer need a gym cuz I have one in my new apartment. It’s extremely difficult to cancel. I’ve emailed about three times, called about five times, and I’ve even stopped by when I drove to Florida from NY just to cancel. Still they keep charging my credit card. When I signed up originally, they said it was super easy to cancel if I have to. That was a huge lie. And their website/app is awful. There’s no way to cancel through them. They lie, lie, lie about how easy it is to cancel. I’m so disgusted with Crunch Fitness. I would never recommend them ever.

Beware of Crunch Fitness

My husband and I have a Crunch Membership at the Upper Centennial location in Hamilton. Shortly after, my husband received back surgery and we could no longer go. I went into the gym and asked to put our membership on hold. I signed the debit machine but did not receive any printed paper. She said it would be emailed. I carried on my way. We thought till the end of March at least. I then receive a notice that our payment did not go through. I called and got a voicemail over 3 tries, which I left a msg and no one returned my call. So time went by and I finally got thru. They said that I would have to pay for the premiums that were declined before I can put a hold on them. Now since then I have received 3 “ possible fraud” calls that I don’t answer and no voicemail was left. So I thought I would call. It was from Crunch asking when I was going to pay the outstanding payment. I told them the situation. No help Ofcourse. So I asked her how I can cancel my membership. She said I would have to pay what is owing, fill out a form, send it in then 30 days after they receive the cancellation form it will be cancelled. This place is a joke. The front desk is awkward with young people tending to customers and have no certificates in fitness or nutrition like our Florida gym has. You can stand at the counter for a good minute to be acknowledged and they are done conversing with each other or staring. Blankly at a computer screen. I can’t wait to be done with this.

I was a member of this gym for nearly…

I was a member of this gym for nearly four years and recently canceled my membership. Unfortunately, I agree with the overwhelming majority of negative reviews. This facility is very poorly managed. The manager, Isidro, does not take customer complaints seriously, which makes resolving issues extremely frustrating.I also had a very negative experience with a senior trainer, Sean, and a member advisor, Michael Hope. Their behavior was openly power-tripping and bossy, particularly in the evening when there is no manager on the spot. They made it clear that they believed they were the bosses of the gym and that customers were expected to obey them—or leave. This kind of treatment toward paying members is unacceptable. If you are on a tight budget and can work out during off-peak hours—such as early mornings or around 2 p.m.—and avoid staff interaction, you might be okay. However, I strongly recommend reading the existing negative reviews, as they accurately reflect the overall experience. Be aware that you cannot cancel your membership online. Cancellation must be done in person and requires a 30-day advance notice. Overall, a very disappointing experience and a complete sham.

Literally the worst thing you could…

Literally the worst thing you could ever do to yourself. Don't let them trick you into signing up with seemingly nice deals because after that first month pass, they jack the price up ridiculously high processing fees and all sorts of other fees they conveniently forgot to mention when you were signing up. They also hide stuff in the contract like the fact that if you want to cancel your membership after 60 days, you have to pay close to or more than $100 (annual fee and next month membership payment) depending on your membership in order to get out. There's even people that had to consult their banks in order to escape from Crunch gym and even if you do pay the ridiculous amount of money they want to cancel and jump through a crazy amount of hoops to get out, you may still get charged "accidentally" for months after and have to go through the whole process again. Literally not worth it, it's cheaper to stay the way you are or simply go to the park and work out with what they have to offer you. At least the handle bars won't hold you hostage.

They are a much bigger scam than any…

They are a much bigger scam than any GYM. They scammed me as well, and I am now fighting with my bank to recover my money. My monthly charge was supposed to be $22.24. I later froze my account, but they continued to be charged. The first charge after freezing the account was a monthly fee of $22.24. The following month, I was charged $74.43. I contacted them, and they stated that they would issue a credit and asked me to allow time for the correction. However, the following month, instead of receiving a credit for the overpayment, I was charged again. Today, I requested that the account be canceled. They demanded a $30 cancellation fee, even though I was never under any contract, and this fee was never disclosed. I am not confident they will cancel the account, given their prior misrepresentation that it was frozen. I plan to file a complaint with the FTC next. Unfortunately, I was unable to use the service for months, while I was out of town, so I initially requested a freeze, which they granted and confirmed with a follow-up email. They are not adhering to their confirmation email. I They are charging directly through the bank account number, not just the debit card. As a result, I will have to close my bank account and open a new one to stop these fraudulent charges.

Parasitic Business Practices

Would normally write a 3 star for the gym itself, but would give a 1 for the insanely poor customer service and scummy business practices. Purchased 1 month around $15. What was NOT told to me is that there is a $90 annual fee that they hide in the contract. Absolutely zero way to get out of it, and incredibly rude staff. Equipment is subpar, incredibly packed consistently, and prioritized endless rows of cardio machines similar to that of Planet Fitness. Most scummy gym I’ve came across do NOT go here.

False advertising

When I was talking to sales and signed up. It hey told me with the deal I would not be paying any fees except the monthly fees. Since I signed up. They have charged me twice in $70 in a 3 month period. I brought this to their attention. Their response. Those are annual dues that everyone pays. Yet they some how forget to inform anyone of that during their sales pitch. I am a one and done member.
