Organisation & service was first class on both ships (Vega & Polaris).
I cannot fault the service I received from Rachel Mack. She went that extra mile to ensure that she was able to offer me exactly what I wanted from my river cruise choice. I had many questions and requirements which she dealt with in a friendly, helpful manner whilst remaining professional at all times. It was a pleasure to deal with her, she is a credit to APT.
Very high quality fabulous cruise.
Fabulous boat, immaculately maintained, excellent ports of call, enthusiastic and informative Tour Director, plenty of food and drink, ( though served by less than enthusiastic staff, no eye contact, little rapport ). Overall, an exceptionally good trip. We would strongly recommend APT to anyone considering a small motor yacht cruise.,

Direct air travel from Birmingham to Porto would have been good but we had to transit at CDG Paris. The late plane from BGX and the short transfer time resulted in a rush transfer of terminals. We just managed to catch the plane but our luggage did not. It eventually joined us the following night. On a positive note the cruise itself was very good although my wife caught campylobacter (confirmed back in the UK lab.) on the penultimate day. All staff were to be congratulated.

Generally good experience. Would have preferred a 5 day cruise as boat could only travel partway on the Douro and would have liked to moor at any interesting villages to individually explore instead of rather boring coach excursions( except Salamanca) Excellent , well organised, friendly. service(all English speaking personnel); good varied food and quality accomodation. Would have like more meals served instead of buffets.

It did not start well with APT failing to pick us up at Lisbon Airport. We had to make our own way to the hotel which, to say the least, was very annoying. Other guests informed us that the transport provided would not have had enough room for us anyway. We also had an issue with collection on our return home. The stay in Lisbon was slightly spoilt by various problems with our hotel room which their maintenance and housekeeping failed to address. It was also surprising that this class of hotel, in a major city, had no security system to prevent anybody having access to lifts and room corridors. Otherwise, we did enjoy our Lisbon stay with an excellent tour of the city to start. Our River cruise was disappointing with small cabins and no verandahs, a letdown. This was not helped by boats double parking resulting in the need to keep lights on and curtains drawn in cabins on too many occasions. I realize this is often unavoidable but still annoying. The food and drink on offer was also disappointing. With the exception of our Dinner in Pinhao and the Farewell Dinner the food was at best average. Given the age group of passengers the absence of any medical assistance was very hard to understand or accept. In conclusion we did enjoy our trip but there were too many things wrong. We had previously thoroughly enjoyed 4 river cruises with APT. Sadly, this Travelmarvel trip did not come close, we are unlikely to use them again.

I enjoyed the whole experience. The cruise was well organized and we really enjoyed the walking/coach tours included. The cabin was great, the food wonderful and the crew made the experience even more enjoyable. Well done, APT, we will look to book again with you.

First river cruise. The Polaris is a great vessel, the atmosphere, food and accommodation first rate. First day travelling by coach from Amsterdam to Frankfurt was not good....once on board the Polaris everything was fine. Spacious accommodation, great en-suite. The food was excellent. The crew were first class and the service was excellent.

We have just returned from APTβs European Gems Amsterdam to Budapest river cruise. The first time this year that their new boat Polaris has managed to go the whole distance due to draught conditions. This was remedied by the amount of rain that we brought with us. Of the 15 days it only rained on 9 of them! ( Photo's of trips on Tripadviser, of Boat on FB) That said we made the whole way and it stayed dry for the Rhine Gorge and Danube stretch where the camera got a work out. There are over 100 locks which allow this traverse of Europe and the skill which they are navigated through is shown that they are barely noticed although some like the low bridges do need the decks to be cleared and the bridge, astoundingly, to be lowered.. We were greeted in Amsterdam airport ( not a pleasant experience now Brexit has separated the UK from Europe) and taken to the Polaris, then looked after until we flew out from Budapest. The Polaris itself is well thought out and designed for the task it is given. Just wide enough to fit through all the locks, just high enough to fit under the bridges. Sometimes a scrapping sound in the night is where a lick of paint is left on the walls of one of the locks. The rooms, while not huge, are spacious, with the balcony windows lowering ( given the weather) to create a french balcony. There was obviously a decision made not to include USB charging sockets so adapters are still needed. The beds are comfortable and high enough for cases to fit underneath. Check your case depth just to make sure, standard airline sizes will be no problem. The bathrooms are well stocked with everything except toothpaste and suffer none of the flooded shower issues common when things haven't been thought through. Its a river boat so all the corridors are not that long. Reception functions as the central hub which leads to lounge /bar and dining room. The upper deck is not always accessible due to external issues ( such as bridges) or in our case the rain. The lounge area is spacious and never seemed crowded there was always more than enough seating and we never strayed up to the other bar except to check it out. The food varied from very good restaurant standard to good if unimaginative hotel standard. Breakfast is well supplied and laid out with both lunch and dinner having at least 4 courses plus or buffet options. The staff were generally exceptional with Yanos the cruise director being something of a miracle worker. We started with low water levels which led to one of the propellers being damaged Yanos arranged for the repair to seem seamless with only a slight amount of busing to Vienna late in the cruise while repairs were carried out. The off boat Tours were hampered by the weather. The purchasable extra tours are also dependant upon take up numbers which is one of the reasons they can only be booked once you get on board. There is obviously a pressure to decide that comes with this but the forthcoming changes to APTs web site will hopefully help you decide what you want to do. Highlights for us were Amsterdam canal cruise, Melk Abbey and Vienna. The cable car view over the Rhine is something to try if walking is no issue. All escorted tours had audio guides along with escorts and transport to and from the site. For those of you that are Ocean cruisers the small size of the vessel means two or three coach maximum on some of the trips only one coach. Some of the towns were easily walked from the boat but this depends on berthing spot. Following previous cruises on Cruise tracker gives some idea but only an idea. Do not assume that you will be at a certain berth. For our first river cruise in decades it was an experience we wonβt forget and the Travel Marvel crew made it better. Next time weβll take more water proof clothing or go somewhere warmer.

We enjoyed our trip but it wasn't what we expected. Having traveled with APT previously we know it is a 5* experience. Travelmarvel is 4. When we booked our holiday we thought it was APT because the same person who had booked out APT trip to the Dordogne spoke to us. Maybe it was our fault for not checking when the travel documents arrived. I note that now you are making it clear which is Travel marvel and which is APT.

We travelled on an APT Travel Marvel River Cruise from Amsterdam to Nuremberg. unfortunately the Rhine had less than the usual amount of water due to the very hot summer and lack of rain. Accommodation on board was superb as was the food. We had an extra night in a Hilton in Amsterdam, and the buffet there was exceptionally disappointing. The canal cruise the next day was very poor, lack of sightseeing. The Autobahn stop on the way to the ship was an absolute disgrace. The trips offered were not up to the standard of other river cruise companies. probably due to the small number of guests. Cruise director was very helpful, we could have done with more talks on the destinations and onboard talks would we use APT again probably not

It was our first river cruise and, unfortunately, the Rhine was not at its best β¦due to the drought conditions. Apart from that, and it was obviously not the fault of the organisers, we had an enjoyable experience and we shall no doubt go on similar trips, in the future, with that organisation.
