Amber electric have upped my usage charge by 3 times my original costing. Doubling my previous bill. I work full time hardly home with 2 people in the house. When asked why it is so high. They said I used more that month. Not double the amount. I will not use them again it recommend them.

The best electricity retailer I have had for 20 years

This is a great company if you use lots of electricity. They give you warnings when the price is expensive so you can cut back your usage.The rest of the day your power is less then half the price of other power companies.As they price power on how much the are charged,not what they can get away with like other companies.They also send you details in the beginning of each season on their maximum charge related to peak pricing.They also have an app that shows how much power you are using at anytime and how much solar is going back into the grid. When you have any questions they get back to you quickly. Amber is the best electricity supplier I have had in the last 20 years.

Outstanding product

Outstanding product. We get our electricity at cheaper price and best of all get great export prices. Customer service has been amazing, explaining each questions answer clearly with the assistance to talk us through what we needed to do. Well done guys

A breath of fresh air

A breath of fresh air, with a company that is allowing solar and battery installers to be rewarded for their investment. Other companies, have reduced solar input to 3 cents per kw, an insult. Looking forward to a mutually rewarding experience, where we are rewarded for our investment.

Amazing experience with Amber

Amazing experience with Amber! The website is super easy to navigate and amber provides a unique way of saving money on your electricity bill by tracking wholesale prices and deciding your appliances usage that way. The team is hands down the best, Caha from Amber was really prompt and helpful. Highly recommend switching to amber!

Amber is a breath of fresh air

Amber is a breath of fresh air when it comes to the Energy sector. They are open and transparent about energy pricing and make it far easier than any other retailer to understand how we are charged for our electricity. For solar users, especially those with a battery or two, the Smartshift technology is something to behold. Using Smartshift, our energy usage went cash positive in the first year. This was never going to happen with a retailer. Well done Amber and thanks for all your ongoing efforts to make Amber an even better wholesaler.

Amber is transparent and value for money

Amber is transparent compared to many energy companies when it comes to bills and prices. Vvalue for money so far. Thanks to the regular updates on our mobiles we know when not to use high energy appliances. I find them quite good and helpful when it comes to helping us with inquiries.

Terrible Customer ExperienceI raised an issue in January 2025

I raised an issue in January 2025. I am still waiting for a solution. I raised a complaint in April and due to lack of support asked to elevate the complaint 3 weeks ago. They don't respond to questions, promised action doesn't happen, blame others. Hoping owner's read this and get their team moving. 6 months is ridiculous. Costing me hundreds of dollars. SmartShift works but leaves a LOT to be desired!!

I have been an Amber customer for over 18 months now and haven’t had to pay an electricity bill in that whole time, and with a few sizeable refunds of credit balances. So yes I think Amber is definitely worth it if you have solar AND a battery. So why only 3 stars? Everyone needs to know that if you truly want to optimise your returns, you will need to ditch (turn off) SmartShift and work at it yourself using something like HA (Home Assistant). SmartShift is generally ok but it makes some truly bizarre decisions on the way. For example it is great at curtailing generation during times when the battery is full and the FIT is negative. That is until every now and then it starts the curtailing before the battery is full (<60%) and never lets the battery charge properly. If you don’t notice the problem you are left with low battery levels, entering the worst peak consumption rates, with no excess battery charge to export, and having wasted a stack of solar energy! And then there is the all too often occurrence of SmartShift commencing the export of battery energy too early, at half decent but low FIT rates (around 15 c/kWh), when in 1 or 2 hours time the FIT rates are approx 23c/kWh or more, which leaves you with no battery energy left to take advantage of the higher rates. I have frequently had the situation of SmartShift draining my battery down to almost nothing, exporting the energy at approx 17c/kWh or less, which leaves my household drawing off the grid all night long when the consumption rates remain well above the 17c FIT that the battery was drained at. It only makes sense to export battery energy at FIT rates that are higher than the consumption rate available later on. That’s basic!!! Amber provides very good access to wholesale electricity prices, but to make good use of that you need to be aware that it takes intervention from the customer and a bit of work. By the way, I tried to find a “feedback” link to submit this review directly to Amber techs without going to an external review site, but I could not find any way of submitting my feedback, even through their much advertised “AI support bot”. I was disappointed to say the least, but I really feel that existing or prospective customers need to know the facts. I really hope the techs improve the programming of SmartShift which would solve these issues, but unfortunately I think their focus lies elsewhere. And since on the average SmartShift performs adequately, there is no real incentive for improvement.

Easy seamless transfer

I dealt with Amber over the phone and was moving an account into another name and discussing disconnection and reconnection on the same day. No problem. They were helpful understood what had to be done and when and all went smoothly.

Fast and effective help setting up new power

I needed to set up a new energy provider for the house we were moving into. Amber was recommended by various friends, for their pricing and ease of use. Having called and spoken to a lovey lady named Franzi when our power wasn’t hooked up on the move in day, she took the time to delve into the info as to why it hadn’t. Within 10 mins she had called me back to tel me what she found, and how to fix it, and within another 40 mins I had answered some questions to help and the power to put new rental was up and working. Franzi was extremely polite, patient and answered all my queries. Amber should be happy to have such great staff working for them.
