The 2026 Media & Publishing report
Media and publishing is the category where 2026 review patterns diverged most sharply by sub-segment. News and digital media reviews are dominated by subscription fatigue, paywall friction, and concerns about AI-generated content masquerading as journalism. Book publishing and print services reviews focus on production quality, turnaround time, and author-relationship economics. Photography and video production reviews live almost entirely on creative quality, communication, and turnaround — three things that almost never go wrong together when they go wrong at all.
Across all sub-categories, CrowdTrust's 2026 ranking weights recent reviews more heavily than legacy reputation. The media industry has restructured aggressively since 2023, and several long-established names operate under new ownership, new editorial leadership, and noticeably different service standards. Reviews from 2022 are increasingly disconnected from what a buyer experiences today.
The defining trend across all sub-segments in 2026 is provenance: who actually produced this content. Whether the question is "is this article human-written," "was this book ghost-written," "are these print proofs from the press I was shown," or "did the contracted photographer actually shoot this wedding," provenance has emerged as the dominant trust signal — and providers who answer the question transparently earn measurably higher ratings.
