Tech support failure

I have been using iDrive for several years to backup our desktop and laptop PC. I have generally been quite happy with the product until now. Seven weeks ago iDrive started failing during online backup of one particular 256MB file. After many interactions with support they referred it to their "backend team". There has been no progress and not a word. I ping them every week and get the same response. I've had to resort to a local backup which I then copy to Google Drive. I will note that this is about 20X faster than IDrive online backup.

So far I am happy with iDrive.

I have only begun using iDrive. I have used other backup systems which seemed confusing to me so that I was never sure I was doing it correctly. So far, I like iDrive because it has a user-friendly interface for someone not really computer-savvy. I can back up to my external hard drive as well as the cloud, both backups can be accessed readily. I can backup on demand or on a pre-selected schedule. I have not yet tried the restore function. I have not yet made a mirror image of my computer, but to back up all my personal data took about 3 hours. Incremental backups take a few minutes. So far I am happy and have recommended iDrive to two people in my life.

Great Introductory Offer & User Friendly…

I got a great introductory offer and the software is more user friendly than the Acronis package I replaced it with. Understandably, the first full backup took a long time. But the second was completed in just five minutes as only amended or new files were needed.

I use iDrive since some years as backup for my WD MyCloud drive (not easy to synchronize), and now added an extra account to move from an old PC to a new MiniPC system. Satisfied till date.

Very nice!

The apps on both the PC and Android work well enough to easily back-up your data. Some bugs on the phone app & slow uploads are the only things that sometimes affect the experience. Overall, IDrive is definitely the best bang for your buck and a great experience for its price.

Great resource with helpful tools

Great resource with helpful tools! I recently acquired iDrive and find it easy to use (friendly UI) and set up. It has some tools like clone/backup computer which can come in handy though I haven't tried them yet. Overall satisfied with what it's done over the last several weeks.

Smooth sailing and truly set and forget!

Local backups are a must but often insufficient. Despite being careful, I have lost important data in the past, due to personal mistakes or technical issues. To make sure I fulfill a contractual obligation, I need an offsite backup solution that is reliable, affordable, fast and adaptable to my workflow. I have been a CrashPlan (Code42) customer for over a decade. The service was good enough for my needs, but I had to work around it's limitations. On my system it was incompatible with the synchronization of Adobe products. This forced me to have two different mirrored sets of data on my desktop PC, one for the Adobe sync, one for CP (Code42 customer service couldn't help me and Adobe don't really have a customer service). Another big issue was the lack of native support for NAS. I am migrating to a portable platform and 8TB of SSD storage for laptops are too expensive, to have all my data twice on the machine. At the same time, I am not willing to sync all data from my laptop to my desktop PC and leave the PC on just so that I can perform the backup on CP. I was looking for an alternative that would allow me directly to make a backup from my central storage solution: my Synology NAS. Online most "best of 2022" websites suggest iDrive as a backup solution. There is a native package for the Synology DSM, so I decided to give it a go. At first I was bummed to receive a "Hostname not resolved" error message after installation, but quickly found out it was an issue related to the newest DMS update and an easy fix is available. After that, it has been just smooth sailing. The service has all the options I need and has worked reliably for about two weeks now. The price is acceptable and the upload speed surprisingly fast (I actually have to throttle it, not to clog my upload bandwidth; an option for this is available in the interface). Being able to perform the backup from my NAS means being able to backup all my data, no matter the original source, without the need for extra tricks to do the job or keeping my PC on only to do the backup. The service doesn't slow down my NAS and all functions are unaffected (CPU and RAM load on my humble DS 218+ are usually well below 10% and 15% respectively, when using the iDrive service). The additional Cloud Drive and opportunity to backup my phone with the same plan are a big bonus. On mobile as well, the app works perfectly, no bugs, no issues, fast, easy to set up and use. My tests to recover the data went all as expected. Randomly picked files could be downloaded and opened without issues. I wish you could encrypt the file names as well for added privacy, but that's a minor issues I can live with. All in all I can recommend the service.

Great solution overall

Competitive pricing. Dedicated desktop and mobile apps. Uploading feels a bit slow. UI could be a bit more simplified

Does what I need as a backup cloud

I just needed a backup for my Synology Drive and works properly for me. I'm not using it as a cloud service, as I just need it in case my NAS stops working. I also use it to backup my phone, and so far is working good.
