Halford takes advantage

My break light fault alarm came on my dashboard. It's a difficult time at the moment and it was an extra problem I didn't need. I saw a Halford Shop and knew they did small jobs so went in to ask if they could change the bulb. They said yes and that it would take 15 mins. I came back 15 mins later and they advised me to change all 4 bulbs, two on each sides, as it was best. I took their advice. It took a further 5 mins. It came to £48.98. I thought it was a lot but presumed the bills bulbs were expensive. They offered me a free MOT (I use my trusted garage so declined) or to take my details and give me £5 off which I took. The bill would be emailed to me so I didn't get to see it there and then. When I saw the bill I couldn't believe the costs - the bulbs were £4.99 for two, so inexpensive ... their labour was £11 PER BULB changed!! No wonder they didn't just want to change the one broken bulb, but 3 more! I know I should have asked the costs and checked, but I didn't expect Halfords to completely take advantage. Won't be using them again!

Thank you Conor

We are two elderly ladies, one with a disability, and were in Galway having issues with our hire car, battery and tyres. A young employee called Conor was the MOST helpful, polite and efficient. I can’t tell you how relieved we were and thankful for his kind attention. Thanks Halfords and Conor

I made a complaint about halfords since June 20th 2025 and no one has contacted me like they promised...I bought a dashcam online and arranged for it to be installed via Halford in Catford .Unfortunately the dashcam wasn't compatible with the app and I decided I would like to change dashcam.I arranged an appointment to have the dashcam taken out of my car to be returned and planned to discuss an upgrade.A minute before I arrived my appt.i was told that I cannot return dashcam because it was used.At no point was I advised about this and the manager at catford refused to discuss with me.Ive made several phone calls to customer services who assured me that matter would be Investigated and someone will in touch...no one has..I'm still waiting...as far as I'm concerned Halford is the worst company to deal with when you want query or make a complaint. When they have your money they don't care My case no. is Halfords Customer Services: 26479136 ...I've rang sent emails to no avail...this company is rotten to the core. I will be submitting notes everyday until something is sorted..I will not stop

I bought a Apollo slant about 3 years ago from the edge lane Liverpool Halfords on the ride to work system the person who sold me the bike told me while the bike was being built it’s a bit of a crap bike as it is one of the cheaper models 🤔 they have and was trying to dupe me into buying a seven hundred to a thousand pound bike so he’d get more commission 🤨 on the sale lucky I know sales tactics he also told me I wouldn’t go on any big rides because it was such a rubbish bike 😒 funny that as I ride most weekends the furthest I’ve been from Liverpool upto now on my cheap bike Delamere forest all round Chester and wales not bad for a crap bike 😃 anyway finally the back wheel started grinding as I know a bit of bike maintenance myself it turned out to be the ball bearings in the spindle so called Halfords to see if they have my wheel in stock and was told yes thought great stuff got to the Halfords on edge lane asked about the wheel got told oh no we don’t stock that we do for the expensive bikes but not yours then got told try Quinn’s down the road they sent me to the competitor also by the way they don’t do the wheel I need😞 so had to rely on Amazon to save the day got the wheel I needed fitted it I’m back on the road again 😁 how can a bike shop sell you a bike but not have the parts in stock to fix it ridiculous practice whatever happened to the customer is always right if I what an expensive bike I’ll buy one not get sales bullied into it Halfords you need to send your staff on a training course to learn not to bully customers into buying bike they don’t want or need also learn them to offer advice in a better manner I was very disappointed in the Halfords experience this much 😞🤨🧐😔☹️😟😕😠🤔

Think twice before using Halfords.

We used Halfords to top up the gas in our car's air conditioning unit last summer but the guy that did the work seemed very reluctant to use too much gas. He said the pressure read as full but we never felt the air was cold after he'd completed the refill. This year we've used an independent garage and it's like a fridge now if we set it on coolest temperature. The difference is, they extract the coolant and weigh it to make sure the correct amount is in the system. Halfords don't.

DONT USE HALFORDS for DASHCAM

Since my last review where Halfords Friern Barnet damaged my car with a dash cam fit it gets worse . Haven’t driven my car for 2 days , get into my car the dash cam is hanging by the wires and has stuck to the middle mirror so all it was recording was the mirror and the inside panel in parking mode . Go back again to Friern Barnet . The manager was really nice but the engineer has no idea how to use the dash cam app , unplugging the dash cam just to get images is not what you want a dash cam for and the rear camera no images . No recordings . Thank god nothing happened to the car if it did a very expensive bill for Halfords as I have a new audit TTRS vorsprung convertible . Left with no choice but to go to Audi and get one of their cameras , where they charge £150 per hour as don’t trust Halfords to remove it in case they break it again . What a nightmare . I got a response to my previous message but no contact details maybe they should contact me as the customer . They have my phone number .

Chatham Branch ◡̈

Purchased a bike instore and attempted to put together myself as the dates and times to have it built was a few days away and I needed it quickly. Instructions wasn’t the easiest to follow so built what I could and took it back in store to ask for help with the rest. Thanks to 𝙃𝙖𝙧𝙧𝙮 who was so helpful and quickly helped me with the rest. Really lovely young man ! A credit to Halfords however the poor sod was cooking upstairs building bikes with no air-con as I believe he said it was broken. I hope it’s now been sorted for the staff (and customers). The ladies were really helpful answering my questions before my purchase too. Thank you Chatham staff.

Amazing service

Amazing service. I’m so impressed with Halfords, needed 2 new tyres, went into website, found 2 cheapish ones for my budget, website really easy to use. They came to my house & fitted them for free, the slot choice was great. Didn’t take him long at all, very quick. He looked tired bless him, long hot day but he was polite. So impressed, thank you Peterborough branch, exceptional service.

A true Halfords experience, beware…

I wrote a complaint regarding a serious concern from the service I received at the Aldershot branch on Wednesday, 23rd April, when four new tyres were fitted to my vehicle. Unfortunately, my experience was highly unsatisfactory, and I felt that the matter warranted urgent attention. After driving only 0.9 miles with the newly fitted tyres, I noticed that the rear passenger side tyre was significantly deflated. I immediately returned to the branch to seek assistance. The same gentleman who had originally served me was present, and I explained the issue to him, requesting that someone inspect my vehicle. I expressed my belief that the problem was likely not a simple puncture (in which case I would be willing to purchase a replacement tyre), but something more serious. I also made it clear that I have limited knowledge of car maintenance and would appreciate guidance and assistance. Despite multiple explanations and requests for help, the individual refused and insisted that they were at full capacity. I explained that this response was not satisfactory, and reluctantly, the gentleman advised me to drive my vehicle into the garage so that he could add air to the tyres. After the tyres were assessed, I was told that everything was “all good to go,” but when I asked for further clarification regarding the issue, I was informed that the tyres had been incorrectly fitted and that the valves were faulty. At no point was I offered a refitting or any correction to the substandard service provided. Instead, I was simply told to continue filling the tyres with air. This response is not only inadequate but also raises serious concerns about the safety of my vehicle. I expressed my concerns about the safety implications of this issue, as I am sure you can appreciate, and requested that the problem be properly addressed. However, the gentleman was dismissive of my concerns and did not offer an alternative solution or even suggest another date to rectify the issue. Further to this, when I was instructed to drive my vehicle out of the garage, I was approached by another staff member who shouted, "What the f*** are you doing in your vehicle? Get out." This behavior was utterly unprofessional, and I find it completely unacceptable to be spoken to in such a manner. I informed him that I had only done what I was instructed to do by his colleague. Unfortunately, both employees continued to argue with each other in front of me, which only added to the distress of the situation. As a paying customer, I was left feeling humiliated, vulnerable, and dismissed. I paid over £250 for a service that was not only performed incorrectly but also resulted in an unsafe condition for my vehicle. Throughout the entire experience, I was made to feel as though the problem was my fault and that I should come up with the solutions myself. It is my understanding that Halfords promotes a welcoming and safe environment for all customers, especially women who may not have extensive knowledge of car maintenance. However, my experience has been the complete opposite, and I feel that the level of service and treatment I received was far below what I should expect from a reputable company. Given the serious nature of this issue, I requested that this complaint would be escalated immediately and a thorough investigation into the conduct and service I received at the Aldershot branch to be carried out. It is now over a month since the incident in which I was advised a prompt response and investigation would occur, this has not happened. All management have ignored my emails and no escalation or compensation provided from Halfords at all. This highlights Halfords poor customer service, management and the lack of respect they have for any customers.

Excellent service

Put my VW Passat in for new discs and pads. I found staff helpful and friendly. They did an excellent job, they were half the price the main dealer was going to charge. No hesitation of using Halfords in the future.

Northenden - Great Experience

Just a quick note to thank Andy at the Northenden branch for saving me ALOT of money by testing my battery, which proved that I didn't need to buy an alternator and then get it installed. Turns out the battery was faulty. He's a good man! Cheers, Andy!
