Review summary

Giant Tiger receives overwhelmingly negative feedback from customers, with many expressing frustration over poor customer service and disappointing product quality. Reviewers frequently mention rude and unhelpful staff, particularly at various locations, leading to a sense of dissatisfaction. Additionally, consumers report issues with online orders, including cancellations and delays, which exacerbate their negative experiences. While some shoppers appreciate the store's affordability and selection, many feel that prices have risen and that the quality of items, especially clothing, has declined. A few positive remarks highlight enjoyable shopping experiences and friendly staff, but these are overshadowed by the majority of complaints. Overall, Giant Tiger struggles to meet customer expectations, resulting in a largely negative sentiment.

Terrible experience at the Aylmer…

Terrible experience at the Aylmer Quebec store. I called the store beforehand to return an apple pie that was not the same as before, it tasted bad, and inferior to what the y normally carry. On the phone I was told to bring it back with the receipt, and there would be no problem returning it.I did so, and a very indifferent "couldn't care less" attitude of the young man told me he would not take it back because there was a slice removed. Despite my saying "how could I tell you it was not good if I did no taste it?He said he could not resell the pie because it had a slice removed.I directly asked him if it was he that I spoke with just minutes before on the phone, and he turned his back on me and would not reply. He called another employee who proceeded to tell me all about her own shopping habits, and how she herself would not ever return a food item to a store.I am not interested in her personal shopping habits. Incredible! I could not believe how they both tried to berate me, over a $7.49 pie!!! I will never go back to that store again.Ten years of shopping there, then there is a shift in management, and the store is a cold and unfriendly place. I stood my ground, and did get my refund though!!!

This is for the GTxpress at 1085…

This is for the GTxpress at 1085 Wellington West in Ottawa. Today was one of the most unpleasant shopping experiences of my life. The blonde lady manager here is a vile, nasty person. I am low income so I came in with a $30 community centre voucher and I was on the list for a $20 voucher from a local church. This was the second time I was on the voucher list and there had been a problem the other time as well. I had quickly found my name the last time and I was confident I could find my time again but instead I was given a number to call which I did. The lady promised she would sort it out but when she called back...apparently this lady manager despises so much being wrong that she badmouths me to voucher lady on the phone. Says I am extremely rude and have a horrible attitude. I am just trying to explain my case and stand up for myself and get enough groceries so I can survive until the end of the mouth. But I guess that is what passes for rude these days. Anyway long story short she convinces her not to honour the second coupon and now I am banned from getting future vouchers because I was "rude" and supposedly I am out of the church's service area. Not true because my neighbour Steve in the same boarding house receives that very same voucher. Also I get a lecture about having 2 vouchers...if two different resources offer me a voucher I'm supposed to turn them down? If you're in need you'll take help from any resources who are willing to give it to you. Anyway at the end of it all I'm forced to return several groceries which I needed to get through the month just because this woman chooses to be vindictive, I got people staring at me like I'm a criminal and she manages to burn a future resource for me as well. Meanwhile lady manager has the biggest smirk on her face as half my groceries fade into the abyss. I guess some people just like to use the little bit of power they have in their life to make things miserable for low income people. I felt like asking her if humiliating me was making her feel better but by the dazzling smile on her face the answer to that was obvious. My only consolation is I will never have to see her again because I wouldn't go back if I was offered free groceries for the rest of my life.

I ordered 2 Debbie Travis outdoor…

I ordered 2 Debbie Travis outdoor carpets online on Saturday. I did that because they only had 1 in store are Ellice & Donald, Winnipeg. I NEED them for my new apartment's balcony. I was told they'd be in by Thursday and that they couldn't be shipped to the store I regularly shop at. Here it is Friday, no carpets. I called GT customer service and left a call-back at 1:15... Now 5:30... No call-back. I also ordered sofa covers from Amazon today. They say it'll come Wednesday... They'll probably come Tuesday. Giant Tiger's online ordering system just can't compete. Maybe if you can have it delivered to the store... But that wasn't available for these items... But they sure didn't waste any time taking my money! Waiting now for 4 hours for customer service to call me back, when I even left a message with the order number.... Great store, great staff... Pathetic online ordering system.

I hate that we get no flyers any more…

I hate that we get no flyers any more and that the check out tills have been reduced to one sometimes two. This store in Midland was a very busy friendly store now it is certainly not busy like it was and not as convenient I do not use self checkouts. This has eliminated jobs you want us to check are selves out bag our own and bring in our own bag and the prices have all sky rocketed! Sorry will not do people are getting quite tired and fed up with this whole program your store along with others are doing to the general public , a very dissatisfied long time customer! Now I shop else where !

Terrible app upgrade

I have no problem with the store, it's the app. I've been using it for years and then updated it, bad move. You can't get flyers, can't save items, it logs you out after just about every use. Just very unfriendly. I have a new Samsung A32 and high speed internet so it's not on my end. You just have to read the Playstore reviews to see. I contacted GT twice, no reply.

False advertising

On Feb 11 2023 I tried to purchase chicken wings which were advertised as 7.99 in the flyer. I took a box which was the one I preferred and while going to the self serve it came up as 14.99. I asked a clerk if the sale price would come up at the end if my bill she said she would check the price in the cooler. When she came back she told me they were 14.99. So I didn't purchase them. The problem here is that all types if wings are put in the same cooler with a big sign saying 7.99. She said that the ones for 660 g were on sale mine I chose were 14.99 because they were 710 g. But in checking the ad it states 660 to 900 g were 7.99. I think this is false advertising at its best this has happened before when I went in to purchase a sale item. Seems to me its common for there strategy to rip people off. Don't appreciate their tactics. I'm going to go back today the 12 of Feb and insist they give me the wings for the advertised price of 7.99. Wish me luck as I am tired of bring ripped off by false advertising and I'm going to stand my ground this time. Something has to be done about this I think we are all getting tired of the shenanigans these stores are playing with us.

La Salle store has a lawsuit on its hands right now for attempted kidnapping.

I went to your company last week. Just before the holidays so I can buy something for my daughter's funeral yesterday. I was insulted I was put down I was told because I don't have any front tooth that I should be not drinking Pepsi even though I was buying Pepsi for my family at the luncheon for my daughter. But this was one of your little Punk underage employees because after he insulted me he said well Madam you're insulting and underage employee well you know what you were big enough to insult me you can f****** take it back. please and then he stood in front of my taxi trying to hold me hostage so I would go back into your store and give you my money. You know what I would rather be dead in the street than give you anything. I want all of your employees that were working that day arrested for kidnapping because exactly what they did to me is exactly that. And if they are not arrested for trying to kidnap me then I will go to the goddamn store with the police and I will have them each individually arrested in your store. I've spoken with your manager your manager told me it was my fault no it wasn't it was your employees faults because they don't know where to put things. I have the picture of the proof and this is not the first time that I've had a problem in this giant tiger. So I advise everybody to stay away from the LaSalle Giant Tiger as your lives are in danger because the employees are very insultful and then they try to hold you hostage. And because of them I missed my daughter's funeral that I paid out $6,000 for. All I was doing on Thursday was going to get a top so I can wear. And I couldn't even do that because your big mouth juvenile delinquent employees don't know how to keep their big mouth shut. How about you have the owner of giant tiger contact me about this one now

Went to giant tiger yesterday in…

Went to giant tiger yesterday in Valleyfield Quebec. I had my buggy with me and I know that no matter where I go with it I am checked by people on floor or pretend shoppers. Nonetheless, I understand because here there are a lot of thieves BUT yesterday’s experience was real bad…the slim dark hair middle-aged woman=employee followed me on my heels via the lines that take you to the cash register….now that feels personal. I could not believe it, at least do it discretely as others do. In addition, the male voice on the intercom also was insinuating that I might be a thief which of course I am not. The top of my cart was closed. I don’t drive; therefore, my buggy is my car. By the way a few months ago it was a man who stayed behind me right through the cash register. He looked rogued. Note: he had no purchase in hand! Anyway, I won’t be going back to giant tiger. They lost a customer. Ironically, a thief can steal without a buggy,

Giant Tiger on Main Street in Winnipeg turns away business.

I went to Giant Tiger where I bought multiple items. At the checkout, I asked for a price match on an item which GT had for about 30% more than a competitor. When I tried to use a manufacturer's coupon on the item, the cashier said GT does not honour coupons with a price match. She added that doing so would give me the item for almost free. Not so! With the price match and the coupon, the item would still have cost $4.51. The manager confirmed this policy over the phone. Since the manufacturer would pay GT the face value of the coupon plus handling fees, this policy makes no financial sense for GT. Is it possible this manager is making too much money so is able to turn away business?

Buyers Beware !!

Buyers Beware !!! Run away !!!!! In July 2022 I made a small online purchase from Giant Tiger. After one week they failed to deliver. I contacted Giant Tiger asking for a refund. They ignored my request and gave me some excuse about have "computer problems with their Delivery company". I waited another week. Still nothing. Again I contacted Giant Tiger and again I asked for a refund. Again they ignored my request. Once again Giant tiger went on about "computer problems with their Delivery company". (Sounds like a computer hack to me). At this point I already paid Giant Tiger 2 weeks ago, and I have received nothing, and, there is zero reason to believe that anything will ever be delivered. I made two requests for a Refund and Giant Tiger ignored me twice. I immediately contacted the Better business Bureau and filed a complaint against Giant Tiger. Within 3 days I received a response, Giant Tiger has now agreed to refund all monies paid. What a HORRIBLE IRRESPONSIBLE company !!!! I had to file a complaint with the Better Business Bureau in order to get Giant Tiger to refund a $20 purchase !!!!! Good-bye giant tiger FOREVER. Rip-off company !!! Return to the Trailer park where you came from.
