Review summary

Giant Tiger receives overwhelmingly negative feedback from customers, with many expressing frustration over poor customer service and disappointing product quality. Reviewers frequently mention rude and unhelpful staff, particularly at various locations, leading to a sense of dissatisfaction. Additionally, consumers report issues with online orders, including cancellations and delays, which exacerbate their negative experiences. While some shoppers appreciate the store's affordability and selection, many feel that prices have risen and that the quality of items, especially clothing, has declined. A few positive remarks highlight enjoyable shopping experiences and friendly staff, but these are overshadowed by the majority of complaints. Overall, Giant Tiger struggles to meet customer expectations, resulting in a largely negative sentiment.

I am writing about the Morrisburg store

I am writing about the Morrisburg, Ontario store. It is very frustrating that their published weekly specials, especially for highly popular products, like strawberries, pineapples, lettuce and such are almost never available, at least not in the late afternoon and evenings, even on Wednesdays, which are supposed to be the first day of being on sale. Highly unethical. Possibly illegal false advertising.

Years of shopping at GT

From in store shopping to ordering online, I've had great service. In Barrie, in Saskatoon,in Scarborough, now in Sarnia. Friendly staff, mostly! Some people have bad days, we all do. Big fan. And LOVE that it is Canadian! Recently moved to Sarnia and honestly, I can do most of my grocery shopping at the Exmouth store. Better priced, and they price match! And the staff was so helpful, in particular the young lady working in food dept (but usually she's in fashion). So friendly and provided detailed directions to find what I was looking for (tank tops). By far the cleanest and most organized GT I've been to over the years. Highly recommend this location! Great prices in the meat dept. See you again soon 😀

I ordered online May 5th, and waited a week after receiving a tracking number for my order to arrive. The customer service rep was very rude and said my order is coming from the Ottawa warehouse. 6 hours away! I waited 3 more days again to track my order with another rep and was told that I must call their carrier to find my order. WTF. Never again

Love Giant Tiger!

Love Giant Tiger! LOVE that their "Canada Is Not For Sale" t-shirts are NOT made in the USA! (Other reviewers are LYING.) I've purchased several and every one of them are from Mexico or other NON-USA countries. Wore one to vote on election day, too! Go Canada!

I really like Giant Tiger

I really like Giant Tiger, especially that it is Canadian. I am disappointed though, that GT is selling “Canada is not for sale” t-shirts, but they are made in the U.S. I am sure there are companies in Canada who would be pleased to supply GT with a similar product, if they look.

Cheap Prices means Low Quality Clothing

I ordered clothes online, 3 out of 7 were good and the rest were low quality. The material was thin and made out of polyester, rayon, viscose, etc. These are fast fashion clothes like the ones they sell from Temu or Shein which I don’t like. The sweaters were so thin that when I was at work and picking stuff from the fridge, I was cold due to the very thin material of the fabric. Some of their clothing items were okay like the pajamas , sleep shirts, scrub tops but the sweaters were useless. No wonder they were cheap.

how you improve?train cashiers to…

how you improve?train cashiers to actually do their job ,cheerfully? Not so...they just want to complain, because costumer actually took time and ordered online, and then during a returning of their order ,,, complaining how it is not done correctly in a warehouse, even though costumer has a receipt for items to be returned.

Cochrane Ontario - Everyone in cashier checkout ignored and insulted.

Went into the Cochrane Ontario store today, and there was one single cashier checkout open, which had a line up of a dozen or more people in it. The self-checkout was wide open, and not a single person wanted to use it, yet an employee stood in the middle of it waiting for no one. It took 25 minutes to get through the checkout, and there wasn't even an effort to find or put someone on a second cashier checkout. I don't blame the employees, I blame head office for this idiotic concept of self checkout. On top of this, the prices have gone above the grocery store prices on all the things that they used to be be better price in... I assume it's because they're paying people to stand around and do nothing instead of checking people through. Pure arrogance on the management's behalf. No question this was the last time I will ever set food in the store, not just here, but cross Canada. Good riddance, you are the weakest link, good bye.

Poor on line shipping

Like the other person said in the past there should be a zero star review. I ordered things on line and they said once it is shipped it is up to the carrier, it is not their responsibility once it is shipped. They won’t even help to track a shipment. Well it is Christmas and no shipment. They said not their issue but call the carrier that they sent it with. Purolator won’t answer any question either. Just shipment delayed since December 6 th.

THERE SHOULD BE A ZERO STAR OPTION!

There should be a zero star option. I ordered 6 sets of outdoor multi colour changing and motion lights that do not work. One set not at all and the other 5 come on and the other blink randomly and none work with the remote s and yes I tried new batteries. I was so hally that they arrived before Christmas in the middle in a postal strike. I put up a big display that these news lights were to be an integral part of and now I have nothing. Good luck calling the customer service line. You will have to leave a message and the say they will call you back. NO THEY WON'T. I'm still waiting for that call. I've had 2 recent experiences with GT instore and they were AWESOME. It seems that i was a fool to think that the service would be at the same standard. I salute you Nova Scotia. I know what and who we are so the instore service makes sense. Instore Excellent. Online GARBAGE.

Why bother using the self checkout at Giant Tiger????

We bought seven miscellaneous items at Giant Tiger at 7555 Montrose Road, Niagara Falls and used the self check out with our receipt totaling $27.56. A customer service person (short woman with black hair in her 50's), who appeared to be socializing with another person prior, approached us as we were paying the bill and asked in a rather annoying way if we only had one book ($1.59). At this point my wife was bagging the items and told her to check the bag (our own folding bag) and at the same time I offered her to check the items in the bag against the receipt. Still with an annoying look, she rudely asked again if "there was just one book" and said she was just doing her job. (She didn't offer an apology and if we were not in a hurry we would have returned all the items we bought.) We were very perturbed by this experience and will not likely go back to this store again. If she was intent on doing her job, why was she socializing. At this point we were the only ones checking out. In most stores there is a person by the self-checkout to help the customers. I believe that you owe yourself to train your personnel better on good customer service. We are seniors and often write and acknowledge excellent service on company's website and Google. Once in a while we run into bad service and write about them too so hopefully they can improve their service. Date: December 5, 2024 @3:21 pm

I am in shock how I was unable to…

I am in shock how I was unable to exchange a plastic SEALED UNOPENED package of briefs to get the right size. I accidentally grabbed the wrong size and the cashier didn't even care. That's our policy. She said to my face I'll call my manager to explain it to you. As the manager was approaching me she already was shaking her head no. Sorry it says on the receipt. I left and said sorry I no longer want to purchase the aprox $80 of stuff in my cart my heart was sunk. Unbelievable for a package of $13 briefs. Most embarrassing experience ever. Have the manager explain due to hygiene. I said I could understand if it was not sealed, there should be an exception to a SEALED product. Do better Giant Tiger. Times are tough financially and customer service at Riverview Giant Tiger NB was disappointing 😞

I went to buy some Campbell's soup

I went to buy some Campbell's soup. Walmart had it in their ad for $.77 but were out of the kind I wanted. I went to Giant Tiger as they advertise in their weekly ad that they ad match. When I got to the cash I was told they only ad match locally. There are no restrictions mentioned in their ad just as follows "We Ad Match". They did tell me they ad match Walmart in their other two stores but not in the closest one to me. This is definitely false advertising!!

No longer a good store for good deals

No longer a good store for good deals. I used to buy 2 or 3 full bags of groceries at the Bedford GT but now I am only leaving with 2 or 3 items. Sometimes I leave with nothing. I used to go ever week for the deals now I am lucky to be there once a month. What's the point! Their prices have sky rocked and are no better than its competitors. Dog Chew bones was always 4 for 4 are now 4 for 6. That's a 50% increase so have not bought them for months now. They switched out really good cheese sticks that came with 14 pieces for their own brand 10-12 pieces and charge more. $8.97 PLUS TAX for 10 cheese sticks. Works out to be $1 each and they are no bigger than your thumb. Older brand would go on sale for $4.97 (14 pieces) These are just 2 examples. Alot of there products like dips, sour cream and ham stakes are very low quality! Never bought again after 1 try! I can see this store losing lots of its customers and may one day be forced to close some stores. Very dissappointed and no longer recommend Giant Tiger.

Let your experience be your own.

I sincerely believe that the competition, are sabotaging here. Maybe they should note the specific location, because I find their experiences difficult to have any credibility. I tend to not buy products made in China a general rule anyway, because we all know the products are subpar. So get your groceries there and support a Canadian company. If pricing is too high on a product, don't buy it. It's that simple.

No longer has good prices

No longer has good prices. Prices are same or more than competition or they sell products with smaller quantities to fool you. Has a good return policy but I typically only buy food and I don’t need to return it. Has very deceptive flyers to make you think items are on sale when the price is twice as high as it should be. GT also had a huge data breech of its customers personal information earlier this year. I know I have seen a huge uptick in spam since that happened. I might never shop there again for that reason alone.
