Review summary
Chrysalis courses receives consistently positive reviews. Customers particularly appreciate professional and service, though some mention concerns about communication and expensive.
Sandra our tutor for year 2 has been so supportive and helpful and brings passion and knowledge in abundance. She shares so much and her feedback is thorough and thoughtful and so helpful. She's been amazing and I'm excited to continue the second half of the year and progress onto year three. Thank you so much to the staff behind the scenes and placements team too for always being ready to answer queries and help where they can.
I have been with chrysalis for 2.5 yrs, my 1st year was enjoyable, with a great tutor, my 2nd year not so much, however, on year 3 1st session in January, my current tutor gave me structure, with slideshows & video clips to explain in more depth and giving examples of the different topics, I have thoroughly enjoyed my first 5 modules as I am a visual learner, the guidance given is great by Sarah Jones and she is a real fit for our group, I am looking forward to the rest of my final year with Chrysalis
I have had a great experience training with Chrysalis. The pluralistic content of the course has been very interesting and I believe has put me in good stead for my future as a counsellor. Most beneficial to my experience though is my tutor, Martina. Martina is incredibly knowledgeable, always puts us at ease, fills us with confidence and gives valuable feedback.
A great course which will change the way you, and others see the world. Expert practical tuition by a sympathetic and intelligent tutor. If you want to know more about yourself and others then this is the course for you. Plenty of help and advice freely given. Can recommend this course to anyone looking to be a hypnotherapist
I've found the course to be very beneficial. My tutor sue smith was very passionate about us being the best and most ethical therapists we could be in year one. My tutor gillian bartlam in years two and three has been very intent on us being the best therapists. Her experiential way of teaching cannot be learnt solely from studying books. I thank her for teaching us to be the best that we can be For THE CLIENT. As the title of the review says. If you are prepared to put in the hard work and are prepared to work on yourself to make sure that your stuff doesn't get in the way, then chrysalis gives a good foundation. A good therapist cannot be spoon fed theories and expect to be able to see clients afterwards.
Before I enrolled at Chrysalis, I attended other colleges to train as a counsellor but I did not feel I was getting value for my money. Chrysalis training was exceptional compared to the other training I received.
although changes are being made, chrysalis has a bad reputation in the psychological world, so finding placements can be very difficult. They are considered to be unethical, and in some cases they are as they do not supply the clients throughout training, in year one you are expected to use friends and family and years two and three you are to find a friend of a friend... There are also hidden costs. You are forced to join the national counselling society which is a chrysalis organisation but they do not state this. If you do not renew it, your diploma is held to ransom.
the good point of this course is i did have a good tutor.
There is a lot of theory, and more time required than originally stated, so plan your time well. - if you are considering this course, do your research first! and look for courses through the BACP website
I left school at 15, attended the university of life and had never done a diploma course of any description. The tutors are excellent and the course lay out gives you plenty of time for studying and writing essays. It is ideal for working people.
There have been so many issues over the past 2 years with the service from Chrysalis it is hard to know where to start with regards to feedback! Considering the cost of the course (not cheap!!!) and the promises made from literature on the website and enrolment packs, I feel totally underwhelmed and dissatisfied with the experience I have had. If I had known then what I know now I would certainly have started my 'new career' training with another company. However, with contracts that detail refunds will not be given, even if you are dissatisfied with the service, there was little choice to move once signed up!
Initially we were told that our diplomas would be recognised by the BACP and apparently that is now in question/not the case which I find very disconcerting. The planning and issuing of dates for each year's timetable of lessons as been nothing short of appalling. Our lesson dates only being issued 4-6 weeks before we were actually due to commence the course. Considering the courses are aimed at mature students who work and/ or have families Chrysalis' lack of preparation for this does not allow for any forward planning for childcare, personal events etc...This has caused no end of problems for myself and my colleagues with regards to 'life planning'.
The icing on the cake came at the end of our 2nd year (2015) when we received a letter to say our 3rd was being postponed for 8 months!! This meant that instead of qualifying fully in 2016 we would not have qualified until well into 2017! A considerable delay given we had signed up for a 3 year course that started in 2013! This notification was only received a few weeks before the year ended and without so much of a phone call let alone any sort of consultation with us. A serious state of affairs given that Chrysalis had already got all our money for this final year and claimed that the postponement was due to financial issues?!! Following a series of complaints from all the course students, our final year was eventually reinstated but this was not without considerable stress and anxiety (not to mention the effort on our part to secure a tutor as they had not attempted to do this!!).
The room/venue we had for the first year was exceptionally noisy (almost impossible to practice hypnotherapy techniques in such an environment). Following notification of this to Chrysalis we were promised that someone from the company would visit the site and/or arrange to move us to a room that was more conducive to study. Neither of which happened so we suffered with the situation for the entire year.
With regards to the teaching aspect of the course, during our first year we had to notify the company we were not getting any feedback on our work. After a number of complaints from the students things started to change but we were surprised we had to pick this up in the first place! The tutors input for our 2nd year was much better however I don't believe this is to do with Chrysalis but rather the integrity of the tutor involved.
In addition, there is little guidance with regards to sourcing clinical placements either - if you want to progress to the professional level diploma (level 4?) you have to do all this yourself with minimal help so good luck if you get to that stage!
In a nutshell, if I had my time again I would certainly look at a course run by a local college or university as my confidence in Chrysalis has gone.
Very poor. If it wasn't for the very good tutor I had I would have left the course after the first few weeks. Handouts and course material minimal and poor. Scientific evidence not current. Certainly not a course to be proud of and shout about- and not recognised where it matters
I am in second year of the diploma in counselling. the first year hypnotherapy was very enjoyable as is the second year so far. i feel that i have learned theory but still find it difficult putting it into practice with counselling. I have met some great people who I will stay in contact with after the course. the teacher we had in first year was great. we have had 2 different teachers in second year which has been a bit unsettling, however the new one is great. I have concerns as to whether we will get placements next year due to the fact that we are NCS accredited and other organisations are looking for BACP or BACBP accreditation so this is proving hard.
I found the above course interesting and have gained good knowledge and understanding of counselling skills, to progress further with my personal development
Susan
Course content ok, but to find that everyone else has had results for nearly 2 months with no feedback to me until I ask what's going on, unacceptable.
Can't believe there isn't a system in place that feeds back to students to keep them in the loop!
Everyone else gets feedback if there's a problem, to say resubmit etc, I had nothing, now being looked into...
I now have no confidence in this process, so have resigned from year 2, very disappointed and disillusioned.
