Buyers beware
Buyers beware On collection the car wasn't as described. The car needs a full respray. Pics of the car were taken and sent to car & classic. Nothing has been done. This is now in the hands of my solicitors. Stay clear

This is the second time we have used Car and Classic to sell our Classic Cars by auction. Excellent service from initial contact, taking video and photos, writing correct and accurate details and managing the auction. Both our cars sold.

I recently advertised a car on C&C but received little response from genuine buyers, only from time wasters. I was prompted by C&C to place the car in their auction. I was interested because a car similar to mine had recently sold for £17000.00. I rang C&C and spoke to Mr X about placing my car in their auction. My car was in show condition and I requested a reserve of my asking price ie £13250.00 which I thought reasonable. To my surprise Mr X told me that I could not have that reserve figure because MGB’s were only selling for between 6 and 7k. I said that surely that depends on condition and his general statement was incorrect. He responded and said that he would only place a reserve of 10k. I refused this low reserve. I asked him about the MGB which had reached £17k but he did not give me a satisfactory answer. On another note, I was prompted to ‘boost’ my advert, which I did, but did not receive the ‘boost’. They have refunded my money but that is beside the point, they failed to boost my advert. The good news is that I have just sold my MGB for the price advertised. C&C need to review their valuations for show condition cars, they cannot be ‘lumped in’ with the’also rans’

I had no end of help, advice and support from Mo at Car & Classic. He was so understanding and kind, and steered me through the process and ultimate sale with expertise and guidance. Mo is a credit to this company, I’d highly recommend using them.

Beware of scammers using CarandClassic. I have been advised by CarandClassic of a scam being operated by people using names such as Keith Miller, Stephen Woods, Gareth Phillips and Chris Byrne. I saw a Land Rover Series 2 and enquired about it. The person calling himself Keith Miller got back to me but when I asked for a link to the listing he was unwilling to steer me in the right direction. He instead sent me, unsolicited, a passport photo of him and when I agreed to buy the car he said he would send me the listing with the payment link. This seemed a bit odd but he had built a rapport with me saying this was a divorce sale and that he was working in France. I once again looked for the Land Rover on CarandClassic, could not find it. He sent me an email with a link to the listing. It was the car that he had sent me pictures of via email so this made me feel more at ease but I then opened the payment link and the name was Benjamin Olah. This rung alarm bells but I proceeded to start the payment until Revolut said not to proceed as this seemed like a scam. I stopped the payment and contacted CarandClassic immediately and was told that a scam is being operated by people using CarandClassic. Please be very very careful, if it feels odd it is a scam. Do not part with your hard earned cash to thieves. Here is the response from CarandClassic to my email. "This person will have contacted you initially through Autotrader, eBay, Motors, GumTree or some other platform and suggested he has the vehicle you are interested in, that he will place an advert with us and you can purchase the vehicle using our Escrow facility. When it comes to payment, the link he will send you will be to an account he has set up, not our Escrow account. He uses several names i.e. Keith Miller, Stephen Woods, Gareth Phillips and Chris Byrne are those we know of, although there may be others. He can even produce ID in these names, but please be aware they are all fraudulent.

What made this experience was that the auction process was easy and kept you informed as to how you were doing but more importantly when the the seller backed out and I had transferred my money to the escrow account it was returned in full with no fuss, only delay was the fees because of the card company clearing process, I will definitely be at car and classic auction again soon 😁

So I had to advertise my Dads car but I live in France and the car was in Surrey. Obviously when i tried to put the advert on all sorts of alarm bells must have gone off. I was contacted by Car and Classic for verification but I could not do what they asked. I explained my situation and they managed to verify me by a third party. What’s better is the car sold in 6 days. Thank you Biba and Jane .
