Car hire abroad has an awful reputation, often very justified, based upon hidden, unexplained charges; poor customer service and the usual 'or similar', when the car you get is nothing like the one you reserved. Therefore, we had very low expectations when we reserved a car for a few days in Sicily, from Sicily By Car at Catania Airport. We had specified a 'special order' vehicle for our requirements and were impressed when Sicily By Car confirmed the type of vehicle by email before the reservation. Upon arrival, their desk was clearly signposted from the terminal and was staffed by efficient staff. There were no hidden charges suddenly added to the cost and the whole process took about 10 minutes. The car was located directly behind their office, in the mai car rental car park. The car, a VW T-Roc cabrio, was in good condition and very high spec, with more options and extras fitted than we hoped for, including driving assistant; power roof, (very good) climate control, front & rear parking sensors and rear camera. It was auto with steering wheel paddles and a 7-speed. The pairing of our mobile devices was easy and almost instant, with the settings menu simple to change the language of your choice. It was a fabulous little car and spot on for our adventures around the Sicilian roads: it performed admirably on the Auto Strada and on the winding country roads, including two ascent/descents to 1800m for Etna's high level parking. The little engine never felt underpowered. On the downside, being a convertible, the boot wasn't massive and we were only able to get one of our big cases in the boot, having to put the other on the back seat and then belt it in, like a large orange child! The other downside was the sat nav required logging into VW's app store and the car's privacy settings had been disabled, presumably to prevent unauthorised purchases by customers. However, we hadn't specifically requested nav on the car, knowing that Google Maps relayed via Android Auto would get the job done. Also, you can specify nav as an extra option on most types of vehicle when making the booking. Upon return to the same car park at the airport, there was a dedicated returns office with a small army of staff checking cars back in, which made the return process efficient and - more important when you have a plane to catch - prompt. The cost of the car without any excess waivers was approx. £340 for 5 days, which was very competitive. There were cheaper companies but their websites looks rather questionnable and they had that classic 'or similar'...come on guys, every group of car can't really be an Audi RS4 or BMW M3?! Sicily By Car's website was easy to use, transparent and a little due diligence before making the reservation showed they are well reviewed by previous customers. Overall, we were very satisfied with the car, the service and the price from Sicily By Car. When we return to Sicily, we will rebook with them without question. Highly recommended.

Ormai noleggio sempre con Sicilybycar. Trovo sempre procedure veloci e personale molto cortese e disponibile sia al ritiro che alla consegna. Oggi a Bari, un particolare ringraziamento al sig Mimmo che, nonostante il gran caldo ha avuto la pazienza e la cortesia di assistermi nella consegna.

At the counter, they tried to sell me an insurance policy even though I had already purchased one through Check24. It was a fully comprehensive insurance with no deductible, yet my credit card was still charged €200. I hope the amount won't be withheld. The return process was pleasant and straightforward.

The Car was what was expected, service was reasonable and quite quick in both ends. Could use service again in other holiday trip.

Im Rahmen meiner letzten Anmietung bei Sicily by Car möchte ich meine Erfahrungen darlegen, um sowohl die positiven als auch verbesserungsbedürftigen Punkte hervorzuheben. Zunächst ist die vielfältige Fahrzeugauswahl sowie das preisliche Angebot positiv zu bewerten. Gleichwohl gibt es wesentliche Bereiche, in denen der Service noch optimiert werden sollte: Fahrzeugreinigung: Das übergebene Fahrzeug war nicht in einem zufriedenstellenden Reinigungszustand. Sowohl die Innenräume als auch die Aussenflächen waren verschmutzt, was einen gepflegten Gesamteindruck vermissen liess. Wischwassertank: Der Wischwassertank war zum Zeitpunkt der Übergabe nicht voll aufgefüllt, was insbesondere bei widrigen Sichtverhältnissen die Fahrsicherheit beeinträchtigen kann. Reifendruck: Die Reifen waren teilweise unzureichend aufgepumpt. Ein korrekter Reifendruck ist für die Fahrsicherheit und den Kraftstoffverbrauch von hoher Bedeutung und sollte vor jeder Fahrzeugübergabe sorgfältig kontrolliert werden. Pannenmanagement und Kundenbetreuung: Während der Mietzeit trat ein Batteriedefekt auf, der den Austausch des Fahrzeugs notwendig machte. Hierbei war ich leider gezwungen, die Organisation der Ersatzfahrzeugübergabe selbst zu übernehmen. Ein kundenorientierter Service würde in einem solchen Fall das defekte Fahrzeug abholen und dem Kunden ein sofort verfügbares Ersatzfahrzeug bereitstellen. Erreichbarkeit: Es ist kritisch anzumerken, dass bei Pannen oder Notfällen ausschliesslich italienischer Telefonnummern akzeptiert wurden. Da viele Kunden international sind, sollte das Unternehmen unbedingt auch ausländische Telefonnummern berücksichtigen und mit mehrsprachigem Kundenservice reagieren. Reaktionszeiten: Die Reaktionszeit auf meine Anfragen war deutlich zu lang. Insbesondere bei unvorhergesehenen Problemen wäre eine schnellere und effizientere Kommunikation unabdingbar. Transparenz bei Zusatzkosten: Die Informationen zu zusätzlichen Gebühren und Versicherungsoptionen sollten vor der Buchung deutlicher und umfassender kommuniziert werden, um Unklarheiten und unangenehme Überraschungen zu vermeiden. Buchungsprozess: Der Online-Buchungsprozess ist grundsätzlich benutzerfreundlich gestaltet, jedoch könnte die Darstellung von wichtigen Zusatzleistungen und Bedingungen verbessert werden. Rückgabeprozess: Die Fahrzeugrückgabe verlief reibungslos, jedoch könnte die Abwicklung vor Ort zusätzlich beschleunigt und kundenfreundlicher gestaltet werden. Allgemeine Fahrzeugzustand: Neben der Sauberkeit waren auch kleinere technische Mängel festzustellen, welche vor Übergabe überprüft und behoben werden sollten, um den Kunden eine optimale Nutzung zu gewährleisten. Abschliessend kann gesagt werden, dass Sicily by Car eine wirtschaftliche Option für Mietfahrzeuge auf Sizilien darstellt. Die Servicequalität sowie die Kundenbetreuung bedürfen jedoch wesentlicher Verbesserungen, um den Erwartungen internationaler Kunden gerecht zu werden und einen reibungslosen Ablauf sicherzustellen.

Fast and smooth car pick-up and return. The exterior and interior cleanliness of the car could be better, but the car itself was almost new, technically in good condition. I would definitely recommend it to others!
